In this clip, @DJAkademiksTV2 adds some context to his controversial "older rappers are dusty" statement. He explains that his words were aimed at a certain rap veteran in particular because he saw him criticize the younger generation of rappers. This prompts, DJ Akademiks to share his thoughts on the mistakes today's rappers make, before indicating that many of them were not mentored by the older generation of rappers and they have deal with the same shady business practices that their predecessors dealt with. He then goes on to call hip hop very individualistic. To that, DJ Vlad shares some insight on where that mentality might have come from. - Розваги
What a lot of people don’t understand is that The label deal is a LOAN. You gotta pay that back with record sales. That initial check when you first sign will be the amount you gotta recoup in order to be on good terms with the label.
They are lying and hating on these rappers
@@fuckyofeelings1 nah how can they hate? You must be young as hell the labels got way more money than artists will ever dream of these are billion dollar companies
I’m pretty sure we all understand that 🤦🏽😁
@@Glock20187 no dumbass most people think that’s their money to KEEP
Simple math
The new deals are worse because artists don't sell physical albums any more and the labels take cuts of the show money now
Fr bro
Ak: 😛I try to consume everything.
Ak stomach: 🤪 He's not lying!!!😋🤤
Any artist that signs a bad contract in the 2020’s it’s their fault.
You will never blow up on your own
Supagreatman agrees with you
In paid in full......money Mitch said "even white boys don't got this car am in" 😂🤣💯🎯🎯
DJ AKADEMIKS has been 25 years old for the last ten years 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
DJ Vlad: “So at one point you were calling rappers broke and dusty”
DJ Akademiks: “Yeah”
He's happy cuz he got mad clout from that
@@william3253 yeah lol
They pin us against each other The younger dudes always think if you don't have anything going on you can't tell me anything And that puts them at a disadvantage cuz they think they know it all and won't take advice
Thanks ak!
After all these years Vlad still don’t understand that street culture is wat influenced rap culture
Exactly. Rap hip hop jazz blues ect all came from the streets. He's too far removed to understand
Exactly. Rap culture IS street culture!
every rapper coming up needs to tap into the cheat code podcast - they drop game every episode on how artists need to move to survive in this game - in fact every independent creator should tap in
Any artist would take a $2million loan esp if they spend 0 recording at home studio
"We had a fucked up contract but we signed it."
- KRS-1, Outta Here
Good shows
It’s crazy that everyone who never have/never will even smell a record deal thinks somebody should listen to their advice on contracts😂😂😂 just be a fan
I think it’s just always been part of ppl to want something first
Supagreatman agrees with you
AK was talking about Mysonne lol
Facts...
I would imagine that they take a oath of silency to keep their position. If you don't come with the game I'll talk then you got to learn it in the worst way or learn from experience the mindset of these people are didn't nobody tell me why would I tell you you got to learn the same way I learned make mistakes and learn from them it's on you to capitalize off your mistakes no one told them so they're not going to tell no one messed up way to think but this is how the game has been molded
There’s way more revenue avenues for rappers today.
Its called a 360 deal. Meaning they get a cut of everything the artist is into
Can’t wait for that Pat porter interview shit gone be lit
That’s all I heard
Sure, this what you hear so many artists talking about "copping x amount of Ks over sticker price", I remember Dolph saying it in his "Hold'up Hold'up" song, Tory did the same for the 2022 Maybach truck, he unveiled it in a music video, saying he was the 1st person in USA to get it or whatever... 🤷🏾♂️
Ak stop making excuses new rappers so cocky don’t want advice Old rappers had no one before them these fools been here long enough to know to seek professional advice or consultants
Meanwhile one of the richest families I know came to school every day with typical holes in jeans and a beat up truck.
There's no such thing as a good record deal. Even Taylor Swift is probably giving away way more than what she should be giving away. The thing the labels give you is exposure and they act as a bank to get you what you want. You have to leverage that exposure the best you can. Akon said it best. Most artists NEED to start learning how to actually be good artists. Meaning they need to know how to optimize their time in the game. That means learning how to write for other artists, learning how to make beats, learning how to engineer, etc. If I'm a artist and I can produce tracks for a pop artist and they pop guess what? That publishing and the royalties come in for life.
Yeah, Taylor herself re recorded and re released all of her classic albums because Scooter Braun wanted to sell her masters to somebody else when she was trying to buy it back from him.
Only a handful of artist EVER have been able to successfully do that and APPEAR to be very popular and at the top of the music game.
Taylor swift always gone be rich tho no matter if she don’t own her masters she a global superstar
Hiphop is street culture
All forms of popular black music is street culture. Jazz, Rock, DooWop and Blues were all street music of their era
It’s too many stories about bad contracts for artist to continue to make the same mistakes. So if you are an artist in a bad contract that’s your fault for not learning from others
It's MC Shan isn't it?
That mighty ducks hat 🔥🔥 though
I keep saying that to myself every time I watch a clip 😂
its people culture not street culture. we are hierarchical beings and having something someone else cant have differentiates us and makes us special by our materialistic standards!
Ak saying what ye is saying but professionally
21 Is 12 that's why he got his master's
Mama always said don't sign shit without reading it.
The first contract you sign is always going to be terrible because you don't know anything and you're green and if you don't sign you may miss your chance because there are no other good offers. So artists signing bad first contracts isn't so bad or uncommon. It's when you sign a second bad contract is when you have a problem. This is in any industry, not just music. Also, if the entire industry is only offering bad deals, like back in the 80s, there's not much you can do.
Or you just get an attorney and do it right the first time
@@sdgsdgsgful Re-read my post, there is no such thing as "doing it right", if the entire industry is offering bad deals like in the 80s OR you have no other offers on the table. You either take the bad deal, or refuse the deal and potentially miss your opportunity.
@@SodaPopinksi dude don’t read smh
U can do it urself. Alot of guys don't have the grind. Instant pleasure is the theme. Instead of sweat equity.
@@l3tme545 lol, @be your own lawyer. Look at the statistics for how well that usually works out
Vlad is 100% correct it did start before hip hop because a lot of these rappers are just emulating dope boys that they grew up idolizing where do you think the cars and the Jewelry and the swag came from
We need an new Vlad and Flocka interview!
Damn he got the first Pat Porter interview
yup this is what Yukmouth said not too long ago !! they failed the new artists
With the internet you today artists don’t need a record company behind them anymore like they did in the 80’s and 90’s and early 00’s. But artists are signing deals to this day. 360 deals and all sorts of horrible deals.
Soulja Boy can finally stop after seeing this 🤣🤣
Pat Porter interview 😳!!!
Forget all that when is the Pat Porter interview dropping?!
No disrespect to Coi Leray but when she was on No Jumper bragging about signing the biggest deal that any artist had signed in years (4 million) I was like 🤦🏿♂️ seriously? That’s money she’s gonna end up OWING the label. In addition to that she’s already been vocal about lack of support from the fans, besides No More Parties remix with Lil Durk she dosen’t have a platinum song or album under her belt but best of luck to her, she probably should of signed for less money though to avoid digging a bigger hole for herself.
We live in a society where Akademics is relevant
And he’s a hater
And you niggas are not
this some hating shit.
He's relevant because our society is super stupid and he's pointing the stupidity out. Ever since "The War in Chiraq".
You want him to be gone, stop being stupid.
Shit at least he provides info and insight into the industry, there’s much worse content creators that are more relevant than him
If it ain't signed on actual parchment paper it ain't even a real contract.
I bet they are. When the older rappers tried to warn them they were called Hater’s 🤷🏾♂️
Most were haters
the older rappers signed the young ones to deals stop it. They are doing the same thing the white man did to him
MC Shan 😂😂😂
Ak never did any research on his claim though. What rappers can he definitely say didn't pass anything down, what should they have passed down, to who, and what did he exactly expect to see change? Smh he's saying this whole thing based off how a lot of rappers look like they have more money now than before, which makes no sense.
Generalizations
He talking about Melle Mel. Watch any of his interviews. He's one of the biggest haters of new rappers lol
I just signed my first rap contract for 3.2 million 🙌 no cap 😎

@@MrLuckyCasino yeah because everyone knows that rich people like you go to the comment section on djvlad youtube videos to brag about “signing their first rap contract for 3.2 million” 😂😂
I don’t get it though, it’s just like the taxes, same old song and dance, repeated for the past 30-40, we never learn from past mistakes it seems
sad reality smh
Ak the type to come as buffy the body to a Halloween party
We never get the interviewers full perspective anymore. Vlad always inserts his ideology before the guest gets to finish talking. SMDH!
If you believe you can buy a next year model car 1 year in advance, you can be told anything smh.
See how Vlad does? He knows who AK was talking about but says he won’t say who….. but he asks guests questions and tries to convince them to answer. Remember DJ yella didn’t wanna say who got knocked out? Vlad says “oh u don’t wanna say??” Then starts trying the process of elimination…. “It wasn’t u…… it wasn’t cube…..” or he’ll tell folks “well….. their dead now…. U can say who….. oh u don’t want to? Ok fair enough”
Crazy you still blaming one man for other grown ass men self snitching. Before the interview starts they literally tell them broadly what they’re going to ask about and the non-retarded niggas make it clear not to ask about cases or whatever it is they don’t want to talk about. And let’s say they get asked a question that’s self incriminating…. All you gotta say is let’s move on or you’re not gonna talk about it. Niggas like you act like they’re hooked up to a polygraph and have to answer these questions. Clown ass nigga.
Yup that's a bhitch move
Of course, Glad and Ak really do protect each other
So tell your brothers not to do his interviews
Yo so who was ak always talking about though could never figure it out 😂
Is it Benzino? And the chain real where's the diamond tester 😂
Soulja Boy
Facts 💯 Big Ak spitting
Dude cap
He's just reciting what has been known for years. He said nothing newsworthy......
Pretty sure Vlad just made up that last part about getting an unavailable car from a dealership. Idk how it was back then but it doesn’t work like that… the manager of a car dealership has no say, it’s the equivalent of trying to buy madden 2024 right now by bribing the game stop manager.
I have a feeling that Mysonne is who DJ Ak was throwing shots at with the old and dusty comment.

Your Welcome
Hilarious this notion that old heads haven’t already warned up coming rappers about these bad records deals. How many examples of our favourite rappers airing out labels or Prince/MJ warning us. The generation of the social media complaining about information not being out there is bullshit. Younger generation just chooses to ignore. This the same guy who laughs at people’s first week sales trying to preach lol
That last thing was the most stupid shit I ever heard. You think BMW produces next years models and just stow them away in a garage somewhere and waits for a drug dealer to pay 20k to get it a year before everyone else?

Im thinking he was talking about spice 1 about the dusty rapper comment
I swear I thought that too from the first day he sad old and dusty
Akademiks instead of using subliminals just diss the person directly. Then you won't get into a situation where people speculate.
Akademiks said Rappersssss in plural even tho he meant one rapper in particular he gotta take that L
Mysonne
he talking about spice 1
Who was he talking about saying old n dusty?
Lol so who y’all think they were talking about in the beginning
Who are they talking about?
Tons of veteran rappers who had bad deals warn younger rappers. But DJs like this promote young garbage for likes and money instead of conscious hip-hop.
Artists sign those deals and sign away their rights because they are desperate and stupid. They think about the immediate and fail to realize the implications and the long term effects of their poor decisions.
Artists have complained for decades about getting screwed out of their publishing or royalties, yet new people keep signing up for more of the same.
That's called insanity.
Desperate or stupid? Can't be both. If your broke you take what you can because there's no guarantee your gonna blow. Now once you do it's too late to double back. Now if your stable then you aren't desperate so you can negotiate clearly. But most artists are not business savvy they're just talented. Athletes and actors do it too. Hell regular employees do it . When your mortgage late you ain't got time to negotiate pay and benefits, you need that job. If your affairs in order your in a position to turn down the offer or negotiate more.
@@nasaihyana exactly it’s a quick way out of some dire shit into comfortability and a HUGE opportunity that comes with it.
@@nasaihyana it's both. Desperation pits them in scarcity mindset which causes them to make stupid decisions. They don't believe in themselves or their talent, which is why they don't think they will ever make it, and take whatever deal they get.
Naw, they sign deals because it still takes some money and team to get on most of the time. Yeah it's cheaper to get on then it was then the 90s and 2000s but online marketing still cost a bag. Most artist (unless they got investors or dope boys absorbing the financial cost) can't afford to do it on they own. Most of these so called "viral sensations" were either already signed to a label or had an investor that put up a bag but they sell the image of going viral to the Public to make it seem they music was that good
Rappers don't listen to nobody 💯
