Nothing breaks stereotypes like a white Canadian reggae rapper
Not exactly, because outside of him how many white reggae rappers have you seen since him and how many is the world turning out right now? There is always at least one or more white person who latches on to the music culture of a group and becomes known within it, but that doesn't always translate to cred as being totally style legit.
White people within groups be it the one white guy who can dunk on all the Black guys playing at a street court, to this white guy who can reggae rap are anomalies that don't disprove the overall stereotype which reveals a rather true lack of inclusion picture. Don't pretend that minority race communities and their music cultures don't have many who treat an emerging white boy talent as token pet poser trying to style and profile within "their" racial community art form. btw.. Snow ended up no lifetime career superstar within the genre from this one catchy song.
@@maxpeck7382 Whoosh
@@five5x WTF! Dude gotta be a Yankee to be so cranky
@@maxpeck7382 Eminem is the rap God though.
@@cherylbohlender7341 I assumed he was a degenerate confederate.
Remember this. Banger!!!! Lit up the clubs!!
He's actually from Etobicoke, which is outside of Toronto, and he grew up around Jamaicans in a housing project where he picked up the patois and the culture.
Actually he grew up in Scarborough/North York a borough just north of Toronto. Neighborhood was an area just south of Fairview Mall. Allendale. When he’s rhyming about east detention it’s a local jail located at Birchmount Rd. & Eglinton Ave. in which he had been incarcerated.
@@johnreilly5600 Okay
@@mikelucas3072 there's nothing that will get Torontonians more riled up than talking about the pre-amalgamation cities
thanks bro. great info.
He grew up in a multicultural and very diverse community
Snow grew up in Flemington park ,north york ,wrote this song in the east detention centre Scarborough, Irish boy, with a Jamican upbringing.
Nick name back in the day was machine gun kelly,No one could rip like Snow ,only ones who could understand him were first generation jamicans and anyone who grew up in the projects.
Ya dun know ,, Lol
He literally put his life on the line with these lyrics...
NO ONE starts off a career by calling themself the "Article Don" in the Dancehall scene. People get killed for that kinda shit.
And the scene let it slide, based SOLELY on the respect of the skill. 💯
Club, informer plays, dancefloor packed!! 💃🕺
This is who vanilla ice wished he was 🤣
Subscribed! This is my fav reaction. Genuine enjoyment
Energy dance 🕺🏽👯♀️😁☮️🇮🇹🌹
All the way from Toronto Ontario Canada. And from Coast to Coast. Yup he's Canadian.
It’s kind of hard to catch but Snow addresses in the seventh verse where he’s from-
“But the in an a-out a dance an they say where you come from-a?
People dem say ya come from Jamaica
But me born an' raised in the ghetto that I want ya to know-a
Pure black people man that's all I man know
Yeah me shoes are a-tear up an'a me toes just a show-a
Where me-a born in are de one Toronto”
What a fever dream of a time to experience music, I was living in England when this song came out and it was insane how much it was played on the radio ❤️
Thanks for typing that in! I don't think he's saying 'in the ghetto' (tho that works 😎). He's from a Jamaican community in Toronto called Ekitakobe or something like that.
?
This was the very real story of when he was facing murder charges, in Patois the words essentially mean I’m going to shoot the snitch. He is also the cousin of one of the guys in the group ‘Barenaked Ladies’.
Yep, true story! He was in prison for attempted murder charges when he saw his video on TV for the first time. His inability to travel outside Canada-and therefore his inability to tour much- was a big hindrance for him.
Damn is he I didn't know that, I did know that he was the cousin of bubbles from the trailer park boys
"lick your bum bum down" is a Caribbean term for I'm going to knock you off the planet ...or get rid of you .....to knock somebody down. He doesn't look like it but he was the real deal Gangsta in the day. He recorded this, but was actually in the can on an assault charge when it blew up and started getting airplay! Snow was charged and imprisoned for attempted murder but was later released.
He grew up in a mostly Jamaican neighborhood. He's not putting on an act, this is what he listened to and was around all the time!
Canadian content!
This is what I love about reaction videos, my dude is from Canada. CANADA!!!!
Snow was always an interesting example of the influence the people around you can have on you when you’re growing up.
We are creatures of community, not race.
@@georgehenry76 Indeed we are. Though it's always more complex than that alone, community does tend to define us more than race.
@@Avrysatos true true.. stay safe out there!
It's also an example of why multiculturalism works and is awesome. It scares a lot of white Americans, but here in Canada, I love it. A short 3 or 4 minute drive and I'm within striking distance of almost any cuisine on earth - and I'm not talking Taco Bell. I mean authentic food. I grew up a South Asian community as a white guy and I can't go too long without a vindaloo, pakoras, biryani or butter chicken. I knew people like Ms Marvel in high school. Full of personality. Must be the amazing food that actually has flavour.
@@christhornycroft3686 food with spices and flavor... so wonderful.
Snow the realist white boy to ever exist
Another cool Canadian 🖖🏻🇨🇦😊
He's Canadian. The cultural diversity on offer in Toronto is off the charts. Snow is a product of the collision of cultures that exists there. He grew up in a heavily Jamaican-Canadian section of town. This song is a fusion of reggae, dancehall, rap, rock, and pop.
That white boy can sang! xD I heard he grew up in a neighborhood with Jaimaican people and hung out with them a lot, that's where he got inspired for this style.
The music of my high school days getting some recognition! Love it!
LOL. He's from Toronto, Canada. It's a great cut. Glad you got to it and enjoyed it.
SNOW is a Proud Irish! Who grew up in Canada Toronto in projects housing at Allenberry. A true lyricist. And in Jamaica and Canada the respect him. I live in America and his my 1# aritist. Before his name was "Kid Maze". Now a great producer too. Work well with other artist. Kat eyez, daddy Yankee, Melody, 20 B-Lo, Joey Boy ect.. And appearance in movies too. Watch the movie Klash".
Proud Toronto here...He used to always be getting drunk at Remmys in Yorkville near the end the night and throwing chairs.
I saw him at a club in Montreal in 2001 the whole club was screaming so loud. He did 8 songs. Great guy.
Congratulations
He is Canadian, but he was massive in Jamaica back in the day
2:55 He's from Toronto, Canada.
Say me stabbed someone down the lane..icky boom boom down...Informer..LOVEEEEE THIS SONG!!! ALWAYS HAVE!!! He tells you where he's from in his wrap..
Toronto, Canada is the MOST multi-cultural city in the world, that song came out in the early 90's and we all danced our asses off to it. Still damn cool! He's truly Canadian, just grew up around Jamaicans...our accents are all over the place mon
Vancouver is close.
Actually Canadian (and, terrifying for those of once young, now 52 years old), this seemed to be a good moment for Dancehall; what with Shaggy and Shabba Ranks et al.
Yep, and grew up around Jamaicans!
Yep. Shabba, Shaggy and Snow were always playing in the clubs and we danced our butts off. But I can guarantee, not one of us had any idea he was a white Canadian. lol
SHABBA!!!
@@rowanmayfair9249 lol.
@@tjvertigo 😁
Snow was actually incarcerated when this song became a bit.
yeah went to jail for double murder.
Nice reaction sweetheart
"Girl I've Been Hurt" is another gem from Snow
He is not from Jamaica. He's actually from Toronto. Toronto has quite a big Jamaican population that has gone on to influence Toronto street culture. Much of Toronto slang is a mixture Jamaican and Canadian English. Snow grew up with many Jamaican friends and that's how he became a reggae rapper.
You also have to recognize MC Shan! One of the true hip hop pioneers of the 80*s remember him @ WBLS with DJ Marley Marl
90's ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
👍👍👍👍👍👍
You see his smile at the end. They put the snitch in the same cell as Snow. Bout to be some stuff going down.
Yes I'm 64 years old but I love music and this is a jam beautiful stuff beautiful music and he's some Jamaica
Snow is Canadian.

Top up 'DANCEHALL'
The original ''snitches get stitches'
I remember this video running non stop in the early 90's on MTV. I mean like at least 2 twice a hour. You could practically set your watch to the schedule.
Everyone was trying to figure out why he was saying.🤣
The guy rapping is so cute. I wonder what he is doing today.
He's a teacher and every so often his students figure out who he is. He also revisited this song not too long ago
A wise man once said "Rap is a CULTURE NOT a color"!
He wrote the song in jail charged with 2 counts of attempted murder
Great reaction. Snow needs to make a comeback.
Omg the clothes bring back memories lol I was a teen of early 90s I used to dress that was lol
My generation music I wouldn't change it for the world I was 13 then used to know every word lol
Hall and Oates “one on one” and “man eater”!!

You need to check out Biz Markie, who was known as The Clown Prince of Hip Hop. His most famous song is "Just A Friend". He passed away several months ago at the age of 57
@JD YUP! NEVER ended up getting paid for it neither. He went on to influence so many in the future. So proud to say that he was one of us out here and then I got to grow up listen to his music! #BrooklynBorn #LongIslandRaised
Take off that stupid mask.
I can say from experience: you gotta take opportunities to breathe when you're singing this song.
Welcome to Canada
he's from Canada
I’ve always liked this but I feel it’s been underrated!!
I like that reaction!!
I was just thinking about this song the other day. Informers are everywhere even at your job! Lol!

This came out at the same time as Shaggy's 'Oh Carolina', which is another one you gotta hear, and we would play them both over and over. Heard them a million times and could happily hear them a million more.
