The great Ritchie Blackmore playing the song at 2x normal speed. Mr. Blackmore was a couple hours late to this concert as he had been in jail for 2 days because while on stage at the last show he kicked and broke a security guys jaw who was giving a girl a hard time next to the stage and he was arrested. Once released from jail he traveled the 100+ miles to reach this gig as fast as he could still wearing the same clothes from the last show. So he was fired up when he arrived.
A little background that might be helpful. The guitarist was the same guy as in Deep Purple. The singer was in a band called Elf who supported Purple early to mid 70s. Ritchie (the guitarist) loved Ronnie (the singers) voice so much he decided to form a brand new band with him called Rainbow. After 3 studio albums they fell out (Ritchie can be a hard man to get along with and is known for throwing strops). In case you were not aware as you don't seem to have heard of him, he was a founding member of Deep Purple. Hopefully you have heard of them :) Love the variety of reactions you do.
the guitarist is "Ritchie Blackmore" he was from the iconic group Deep Purple (smoke on the water). He formed "Rainbow" after Deep Purple broke up. He employed Ronnie James Dio to be his vocalist.. Great group...
Being that you were a DJ I am shocked that you don’t know rainbow or Dio one of the greatest rock voices. This is a crappy version of a great song. Ronnie James Dio “holy diver”
Ronnie James Dio was one of greatest voices of rock that have ever lived. He was also the guy that introduced the two finger rock sign to the world. Richie Blackmore is one of the pioneers of heavy metal as the first guitarist of Deep Purple. Both of them are rock legends.
@@gallaxy70 Its on there and im a huge Beatles fan myself, but im also an equally huge fan of Ronnie James Dio and i would say that the word "introduced" is wrong, but Dio did popularize the sign and its because of that everybody is using it today and it has nothing to do with it being on the Yellow submarine cover.
Rainbow was a super group. The guitarist was a former member of Deep Purple. The lead singer was none other than Ronnie James Dio. Everyone loved Dio. Most everyone didn’t really like Richie Blackmore (he was a bit difficult to work with). The group didn’t last long, due to the friction between those two mega stars.
For someone born in 1968... good grief... and a huge Rainbow fan... I'm happy that the music still moves people. The very first part of the intro part there is "Lazy", by Deep Purple... the band Ritchie was in before he started Rainbow. It's funny, Rainbow tended to blow through this song at "show speed" when they played it in concert, which is a shame. The studio version is better for being a bit slower and controlled, though there is a lot of energy in the live version.
Ritchie Blackmore left Deep Purple to go solo and formed a band with Ronnie James Dio's early band Elf (minus their guitar player of course). He ended up kicking out the drummer, bassist, and keyboardist after that first album and replaced them with the mighty Cozy Powell on drums, first Jimmy Bain then Bob Daisley on bass, and first Tony Carey then Dave Stone on keyboards (the later players seen in this concert). Cozy Powell was already somewhat famous as a drummer and went on to replace Palmer as drummer in E.L.P. and joined Black Sabbath later. Jimmy Bain later joined up with Ronnie James Dio again and played bass in the Dio band. Bob Daisley joined Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard of Ozz band as bassist on the first 2 albums plus worked with him on later albums too. Tony Carey became famous in Germany as a solo artist and later played keyboards with Black Masquerade and joined Zed Yago. Dave Stone moved back to Canada and ended up joining Prism. You may have heard of some of these groups! Rainbow was a huge influence on later power metal bands.
Actually from the same concert two of the most fantastic live songs are "Catch the Rainbow" and "Mistreated" from the Live '77 Munich. So fantastic. Rainbow is an awesome group. Stargazer is probably their best song, but so many good songs. "Rainbow eyes, Temple of the King, Long live rock & roll." And so many more.
Welcome to the world of Ronnie James Dio, Maunalee! One of, if not THE best rock and metal singers ever! Not the best video to react to for the first time, though.
That was guitarist Ritchie blackmore the man that helped create deep purple along with keyboardist Jon lord, I’m sure you heard the song smoke on the water...check out child in time by deep purple it is a true rock classic..from 1970..the look on your face was priceless while watching this song
I graduated high school in 1971, and I have never heard of this band, but I was pregnant in 77 also, being busy working and being a wife so guess I was not up on music in those days.
I was 16 in '84. 🤦 I saw RJD with his band Dio in' 86 in Birmingham (not in Alabama) on their "Sacred Heart" tour. He was the consummate showman and one of the best Metal vocalists of all time. 🤘
Maunalee if I can give you some advice if it's a band and a song your listening to for the first time listen to the album version of a song first before the live version you wil get a much better feel for the song because this is a great song but it might sound a little bit jumbled live if your listening to it for the first time
This version is kind of weird because Ritchie starts out with Black Night and a bunch of random riffs, before going into the song. And that habit of Ritchie's used to drive Ronnie nuts. I think if this (MOTSM) were my video on UA-cam I would trim that intro. Get Ronnie's word intro and then cut to the actual song when they have the stage blackout. Even being a huge fan of this song and the band, that meandering intro kind of puts me out of the mood. It's a shame because there's so little film of Ronnie with Rainbow. I think this is Live in Munich? Anyway great reaction video! Your Mom will remember Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water. Ritchie is the guitarist who wrote that riff.
Ronnie Dio first sang for his supper at the age of 15, and was a professional musician for more than 50 years. This powerhouse of a hard rock performance... not bad for a guy who started as a doo-wop singer.

never heard this song before, not bad. I never really got into Rainbow, but I did listen to to a bit of Dio's solo stuff, and I *really* liked when he took over Ozzy's spot in Black Sabbath. *"Heaven And Hell'* is one of my fave Sabbath albums
Coming here perhaps a bit late but Rainbow was definitely not a one hit wonder. This was perfect combination, Ritchie Blackmore after Deep Purple together with Ronnie James Dio before he moved to Black Sabbath and later Dio. You could see this as a bridge between old Zeppelinisque “heavy blues” and early 80s metal.
What you were watching there were the godfathers of Metal. I've never been a big fan of Ronnie James Dio, but Richie Blackmore was (and is) a "next level" guitarist. For her edification, someone please request Maunalee to check out some Deep Purple. There a great vid out there of an excellent live version of "Child in Time" that I think she'd like. Ian Gillan is on of the best male rock vocalists of all time. I know, why don't I ask Maunalee myself? Nothing against Maunalee - I think she's pretty cool! But though I will subscribe to UA-camrs I think do something interesting, and I will "like" everything they do to aid in their monetizing efforts, but I require a little more in the way of societal or artistic contribution and creativity from someone before I'll start actively supplementing their income. Sorry!
That's funny the 70s garb. Oh no you should have seen some of the rock bands outfits. He'll even early rush and queen we're a little out there. In the late 70s and early 80s me at the Troubadour and the whiskey A Go Go the Ice House . Glam Rock girls in bustiers me in spandex and eyeliner 😲😂
One hit wonder??? Hell to the no! That was 5ft3 Ronnie James Dio on the mic and Ritchie Blackmore on guitar! Ronnie is one of the greatest front men of rock ever. The Pavorotti of metal. He replaced the one and only Ozzy of Black Sabbath in the early 80s...there is only one Ozzy...one Tony...one Geezer...one Bill Ward and one RJD. Rip Ronnie 🙏 forever
Can't believe your mother has never heard of them if she was into rock music. So many classic Rainbow songs to check out and whilst this is a good song, it's not the best of clips. Stargazer, Long Live Rock and Roll, Eyes of the World. So many off shoots from this band too with the lead singer in his own band Dio and with Black Sabbath and the guitar legend Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple where you will also encounter more legends like Ian Gillan and Jon Lord. Have fun!
This was great ... Don't remember hearing this back in the day ( got married in 1977 ), but what an energetic performance. I would have loved to see them live. I did see Deep purple live in, I think 1976 in Ft. Lauderdale, as back-up for Rod Stewart. Deep purple was AWESOME, Rod Stewart on the other was very drunk, drinking Mateus (spelling?),on stage and was, if not for Deep Purple, the WORST concert I've ever been to. On another note, the Lindsay Buckingham video is blocked seemingly here in the U.S. Bummer ... Thanks for what you do.
It's your show. Decorate your "set" with whatever posters you want and don't worry what the hypersensitve minority of viewers may think. Also, I hope whoever mixed the sound on the Rainbow video found a new line of work after that gig!
More punch? Put on "Kill The King". Legendary band that was too short lived. Wouldn't know them if not into heavy rock. Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, Cozy Powell, Bob Daisley are rock legends.
Not a very good quality video to really react to. The band is really awesome there cover album is what your can really give a honest reaction to. I love Rainbow but not this live version. But great reaction for what you had to go by Stay Safe 😍 😍
Ritchie Blackmore ALWAYS improvised... Rainbow live shows never had guitars like their studio albums. The whole beginning of the song is improvised. And I bet the solo was improvised too, following only loosely the studio version.
I love Rainbow. Great band, great song, but the worst live version. You should listen to the studio version, which is a lot slower. Not a one hit wonder at all. Their catalogue together and with others is awesome.
You really need to get into more rainbow, or any of the bands that the man, Ronnie James Dio has been with, he’s amazing and here with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. Awesome stuff.
It's interesting that Richie Blackmore intro'ed with a riff from a song that he played while a member of Deep Purple. Goes back a ways. Vocals could have been more pronounced. The tempo was faster than on the cut version I believe. Basically a poor (I know live) version the original recording.
Good,good,good,.......it is the band "Rainbow" Nowaday's I thought I might end up with a drag queen contest in lower Alabama when I type in "Rainbow" on UA-cam. (WARNING,.........Be careful when you type in thru the outdoor by Led-Zeppelin on UA-cam in 2021,....suggestions may not include music) Ha-ha!
If you are a fan of electro-swing you already know, if not you should listen to Caravan Palace. Lone digger would be a good place to start. electro-swing is a lot like post modern jukebox.
Dio, great singer, I am not a fan of the live versions of great songs from the past, especially the older songs, because the audio is usually muddy. To get a feel for this singer’s true range listen to the studio version. I appreciate the live show aspect of many old songs as I was at many of those concerts. For clarity I prefer the studio versions.
Great song choice! You should do more of Ronnie James DIO. Stargazer (Rainbow), Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath) Rainbow in the Dark in his solo band. But if you want something special do the song "I" from Black Sabbath. It's very brutal. You may also like Last in Line, Rock n roll children. You can pick any song)
Oh Yes. You got to experience the Magic... My oh my oh my....MUST SEE concert in full... D.I.O. In the Day. And what transpired after...WATCH OUT......YEA........

Maunalee, please react to the song Neon Knights by Black Sabbath. Same signer (Ronnie Dio) but a much better song, and you can appreciate his voice a lot more too. Very powerful.
The lead singer was Dio...there's no way you don't know Ronnie James Dio, having a past in rock radio...come on! Also Rainbow is in the top 100 of Hard Rock bands of all time... with 28 million records sold... blows my mind you've never heard of Rainbow...definitely not a one hit wonder.

Sorry!
Black Sabbath are the godfathers of Metal. Rainbow were third in The Unholy Trinity - Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow.
Ronnie James Dio is a legend! My favorite Rainbow song is probably Kill the king.
Rainbow Rising 5 Stars.. Ritchie, Ronnie, Cozy, Tony, Jimmy.. Peace
Stargazer!!!
LOL your eyes show so much of your reactions..Voice good, guitar definitely amazing
It's your show. Decorate your "set" with whatever posters you want and don't worry what the hypersensitve minority of viewers may think. Also, I hope whoever mixed the sound on the Rainbow video found a new line of work after that gig!
there's a lot of great historic music
some real legends in that band
But great reaction for what you had to go by
Stay Safe 😍 😍
This performance, I would give a 6, just because of the sketchy sound. These two titans were much better than this video showed.
roy wall
I know what you mean. I would add a third titan : Cozy Powell ( I assume you were talking about Dio and Ritchie)
franMuzak yes, absolutely!
Ritchie Blackmore ALWAYS improvised... Rainbow live shows never had guitars like their studio albums. The whole beginning of the song is improvised. And I bet the solo was improvised too, following only loosely the studio version.
Ronnie smashing rocks !!!!
This is from my younger days. I never heard of them or this song. 3
This song shows why punk came around.
It's a legendary song. Punk was a passing phase.
Omg! Never heard of Rainbow or Dio.
Is this Spinal Tap?
No.
I love Rainbow. Great band, great song, but the worst live version. You should listen to the studio version, which is a lot slower.
Not a one hit wonder at all. Their catalogue together and with others is awesome.
Ronnie James Dio is #1 my favorite vocalist. \m/
You really need to get into more rainbow, or any of the bands that the man, Ronnie James Dio has been with, he’s amazing and here with Ritchie Blackmore on guitar. Awesome stuff.
You cannot call yourself a DJ if you never heard of Dio or Blackmore ..Trust an old DJ , Lol ...
she dont know Ritchie Blackmore ?
It's interesting that Richie Blackmore intro'ed with a riff from a song that he played while a member of Deep Purple. Goes back a ways. Vocals could have been more pronounced. The tempo was faster than on the cut version I believe. Basically a poor (I know live) version the original recording.
I love 16 century greensleves...they cut that short
besser version in album Rainbow "On stage"
Good,good,good,.......it is the band "Rainbow"
Nowaday's I thought I might end up with a drag queen contest in lower Alabama when I type in "Rainbow" on UA-cam.
(WARNING,.........Be careful when you type in thru the outdoor by Led-Zeppelin on UA-cam in 2021,....suggestions may not include music)
Ha-ha!
Dear Maunalee thank you for your reaction, and this is the whole version I do hope you will like it : ua-cam.com/video/vpgu9wKJVbc/v-deo.html
If you are a fan of electro-swing you already know, if not you should listen to Caravan Palace. Lone digger would be a good place to start. electro-swing is a lot like post modern jukebox.
The Album would have given you better sound and yes had this album "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow" had a couple of good songs .
Ronnie James Dio check him out in Black Sabbath and solo
Oh Yes. You got to experience the Magic... My oh my oh my....MUST SEE concert in full... D.I.O. In the Day. And what transpired after...WATCH OUT......YEA........
DIO!!!!!!YYYEEAAHHHHH!!!!!
Sped up too. They could have played it at normal speed without that long introduction
love ronnie james dio live, one of my all time fav singers, but ritchie blackmore can be a bit over overindulgent at times hehe. loved the reaction, tnx...
If you are going to react to a Rainbow Song "Stargazer" is the one you have to react to...
So cute you don't know here...not your fault-- see dio (rainbow in the dark, last in line, holy diver) and black sabbath with dio
Not bad hey I'm giving them an 8 for originality 🔥
Omg Ronnie James Dio I ❤️ you. I remember my youth, sub on this channel 🥳
Maunalee, please react to the song Neon Knights by Black Sabbath. Same signer (Ronnie Dio) but a much better song, and you can appreciate his voice a lot more too. Very powerful.
You just listened to the greatest vocalist ever. Check out Dio children of the sea 1983
You should react to their other song stargazer - rainbow
Wasn't crazy about Ritchies performance there.
rip ronnie
The lead singer was Dio...there's no way you don't know Ronnie James Dio, having a past in rock radio...come on! Also Rainbow is in the top 100 of Hard Rock bands of all time... with 28 million records sold... blows my mind you've never heard of Rainbow...definitely not a one hit wonder.
Metal, not Hard Rock.
