If I am going away for the weekend, then I brink one of my Art Toolkits. I especially like it when I don’t have a lot of time to paint something on location so I scale down my painting and this small brush is very handy for details. I wish CassArt ships to the US but unfortunately, they do not. Probably a good thing for my bank amount. LOL! Thank you for sharing your haul and a lovely peak at the store. Oooo, new to your channel and loving it so far. I have that W&N travel set and some lovely travel brushes I received as birthday gifts 2 years ago. It's one of my goals to do some plein air painting, just working on making my own sketch easel/pochade box. I want to get into urban sketching - it's one of my 22 to do in 2022. Cheers from the US.
Nice haul. If you give the cap portion of your new travel brush a squeeze it should fit better. I’ve had a few that hadn’t had a good fit and that did the trick. I’m surprised the W&N would include a fugitive color like PR83 (Alizarin Crimson) when they offer a permanent option in their line. Have a great weekend!
Yes indeed, love to paint outside! And I totally got it when you said just looking at the palette got you excited because you think of all the fun art trips you'll have with it!!
I really want to try painting outside, but I just don't have time...I'm really interested in urban painting, and would love to go downtown (city center) and catch that view. Someday.
I always take my painting supplies with me when I travel, but I only end up painting about half the time. I've always liked the layout of that little field box, but really don't need it and I'm not a fan of the paints inside, so I've never purchased it. Ah well. 😊
A few years ago there was a bad batch of those boxes around. I bought one I think it was from the London graphic centre, and it had a faulty hinge, so they took it back but every single replacement also had faulty hinges. And the poor chap in the shop went through the entire stock they had and ended up sending all of them back to winsor and Newton. Sometimes you can also get your hands on a cotman version of this box which is obviously much cheaper. And if you do that once you've used up the paint then you can just swap it out for the professional colours that you like. But if you're out and about and there's a chance you might drop it in a river then it's probably a good idea to have cheaper student colours with you anyway. Speaking on behalf of a friend who wasn't me... After years of experimentation with travel pallets I've ended up using a combination, as because I'm never satisfied and never think that one thing does every job. I have a collection now of very cute little Frome metal pallets which take 12 half pans or 15 if you take out the tins insides. I've got one with a water container which is attached but actually I don't really like that too much and I end up just using a separate water bottle. I've also got the portable painter micro pallet. They'll have their advantages and their drawbacks, but in the end what I actually find I do is grab a few colours and shove them in an empty pallet on the way out of the door, I tend not to leave a pallet set up and just keep reusing it, I don't know why this is, I think it might be something to do with ADHD. But I just find it fun to have a random selection of colours and just have to make do with it when I'm out. I try to put some kind of yellow some kind of red some kind of blue in there but other than that just grab and go. I absolutely never agree with the colour selections in a commercially available prepopulated pallet. I once went into a Cass art store when I was waiting for a conference to start and stranded in a very wet city. It would have been for cheaper to go to a cafe to get out of the rain. It's like a giant adult sweetie shop.
Oh Man seeing these Cass art footage brings me memories 😂 I lived in England for one year from 2014-2015 (that's how I discovered the world of good watercolor paints as the only sets I've came in contact were the children's grade supplies at the time) and I used to shop for art supplies at either The Works or Ruddocks of Lincoln.... I have a pad of ClaireFontaine watercolor paper I've never finished it because it's too precious for me and I got from Ruddocks. When I got my first cotman palette (the usual sketchers box) I used to use their tiny brush a lot... Because I went in totally blind into the watercolour world and didn't know better, lol Okay so some funny thing I've noticed in that W&N field box: the screening they use on the pans to identify the paints, something weird happened at the factory and they screened the pan paint :P also if one really wants the field box, I think it's best investing on the cotman version to replace with your own selection of paints, because I don't really like how W&N doesn't update their professional selection of paints... Like nickel titanate yellow for a lemon? Really? Chinese white and ivory black? And two similar earthy yellows? Yeah it's not my cup of tea. In fact I got that palette as used item from eBay, filled with cotman paints. 😂
When I travel I always take my art supplies with me just in case I find some time to paint. Some times I'm lucky! I'm so sorry I 've missed your streams lately but I've been so busy because I have to catch up with deadlines.
