- The Rijksmuseum carried out extensive research and conservation on a rare 17th-century Dutch lacquered cabinet. A method was developed for removing the thick varnish that concealed the richness of the original decoration layers. Damaged areas in the black lacquer were retouched. In this video, conservator Elise Andersson talks about the restoration project, while senior curator Reinier Baarsen discusses the art-historical facets.

Prachtig resultaat, hulde aan dee restaurators, en het Rijksmuseum met z’n top stuk..
In 17th century we Japan closed the country but Holland is the only country in Europe which could import and export to Japan. Japanese leaned a lots of things from Holland such as medical and astronomy knowledge. Holland imported Japanese crafts such as lacquerware, porcelain and woodcraft. It is happy for me to know you have Dutch style lacquer crafts like this. Thank you😊
I have visited Rijks museum twice. I’d like to see this next time.
