For those wondering why the fire hydrants went dry: They aren't out of water exactly, like many many people were saying, they just couldnt pump it fast enough. The hydrants are supplying water again which wouldn't be possible if city was actually out of water. The cities water primarily comes from reservoirs which are still full. The problem is that the reservoir aren't at fire hose pressure on their own. To get the water to be at a useful pressure, the water is pumped to holding tanks at a higher altitude. The water can flow down from these holding tanks and supply water to the city. These holding tanks are what ran out of water, not the reservoir. The pumping system that keeps these tanks full was not meant to supply enough water to fight fires at this scale, and it also sounds like there were power outages which temporarily took out some of the pumps making the problem worse. No amount of water stockpiling could have stopped those hydrants from going dry.
I also heard that because of the winds on the first 2 nights of the Fires, they could not have aerial support and so needed more water than is normally required.
You mean in spite of your idiot governor who dumped billions of gallons of last year's surplus water into the Pacific Ocean to try to "save" a fish that has no great biological significance or economic value to this state, right? 🤬🖕
@@jetskier8841 Well, they MAY be but they go to help people in need anyway, like all the folks that went to the States to help restore power after the hurricane.
So corporations will buy the lands and build their smart cities…no one will be able to decontaminate those lands other than black rock and the others as you might know.
They didn't "shut off the water", the pumps couldn't handle the demand so some fire hydrants temporarily ran dry. Hope they'll learn from the mistakes and improve the infrastructure for (inevitable) future fires.
CONGRESS NEEDS TO ACT. CALFIRE is paid well. The Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, BIA, USWFS are all paid like cheap garage. It is a disgrace. Even with their new proposal that may pass congress is laughable. Please right your congress person and ask them to increase Federal Government Wildland Firefighter Pay. They are losing their workforce. Many people quit in masses every year due to laughable pay, poor broken down facilities, equipment, and vehicles. Wildland firefighters may to hard labor...but not the leadership on the fire crews. We are losing are workers and we are losing are leadership. Try being a leader in the wildland fire community and you will find it takes an incredible amount of skill, discipline, sacrifice, and intelligence. There is a problem and they refuse to fix it. As the workforce continues to disintegrate this will only get worse as we lose are workers, are leaders, and are support staff to better paying jobs and jobs that support their crews with appropriate funding for facilities, equipment, and other necessities to become an ACTUAL professional workforce. Also, developers should spot building homes in high fire prone areas and selling them to naïve people. Even without global warming a fire like this was going to occur regardless. The frequency in which these fires occur is increasing. Instead of having a fire like this every 300, 200, 100 years they will occur more often in the future if temperatures continue to rise.
The STATE needs to tend its own yard. It has had EVERY opportunity to responsibly manage its lands. It CHOSE not to do that. The whack job environmentalists refused to allow responsible land management. This is not a problem for Congress or the fed. California governance created this problem. It's their mess. Theirs and whoever has blindly voted for the "leadership" that set the stage for this to happen. How many fires does CA need to wake TF up and apply just a little common sense? This is all California's. Let them fix it.
You can’t rely on a municipal or government agency to protect you during a natural disasters. Citizens need to be prepared for whatever natural disasters are possible given their geography.
I've been doing some thinking(uh o). Since here in the U.S you can never actually 100% own a home(the government forbids ownership of property, that's why you always have a property tax),then shouldn't the government be chipping in on insurance? So should the lender. Well the government doesn't really care if the house burns down, they are only concerned about the land not what real estate is built on it. So scratch that, but the bank sure cares about the home value.

How can this happen in a first world country!!?? Weren’t they well prepared?? Cutting the Budget for firefighters in LA must be the DUMBEST act ever knowing the past experiences with fire theyve had!!!! Why didnt they stop it before it expanded so much?? Fire fighters from all over the United States have to come and help!! I feel so sad for the poor Animals that will die and will be left behind!!!
Let me help you understand, there was an extreme wind event going on, literarily hurricane level of winds. There is no first or last world preparation that stops a fire that has 80+ MPH winds pushing a fire. There is no water or any other solution until the winds die down that can fight a fire like this. The only preparation would be to not have homes along these regions, but 25 years ago when the homes were built it was not true and now it is. All the fkg trolls here are truly the bottom of the human grease stain barrel at a time like this... but fits the character of these creatures.
Thank you for everyone who helped with the fires. Pasadena resident here ❤

Pasadena and Altadena was a beautiful place
On Watch Duty it says there is 3% containment on the Eaton Fire. Is that not true?
Whatever happened to clearing out brush and dead wood yearly? Do they no longer do this?
Nope, and the stopped logging too which helps a lot.
When will the power be back for Northern Pasadena?
I wrote to this Mayor and I never heard back.
They cut the fire departments budget by $17.6 MILLION dollars, another reason these people helped cause the carnage.
This 💩's WRONG!
Help our fellow Americans, family, and friends now.
Our beloved leaders!
Democrats get what they voted for. People keep voting blue and you get incompetence and mismanagement.
17.6 M cut is the budget of Los Angeles City. This is Pasadena City. City budgets are independent. Know the differences of an apple and an orange.
While it's certainly unfortunate I really doubt a 2% budget cut had much effect
