Note: Since I am in Hard Mode I had to grind to Level 75 before I could win this battle, it is optional anyways.
This is actually a pretty fun but difficult fight. The game won't end if the NPC gets killed so don't worry about her. The main thing to know is that you can lower Mueller's speed. Your priority is to use Clock Down on Mueller and use Clock Up EX on Joshua, this way Joshua will be getting two or three turns while Mueller only gets one. Also make sure that Joshua's HP is always above 4000. Mueller has a Craft called Blade Dance that deals a bit less than 4000 damage, luckily he's never used it two times in a row.

Personally love this fight. The first time in the game we see Joshua again, and play as him basically being a one man army. Not too mention him having arts like Abyss Fall depicting his change in fighting styles.
I love the outcome with him winning against Mueller since it shows how strong he has to become to defeat Loewe.
It also shows as Joshua being cunning with the tactics he uses to interfere with Ouroboros. From allying with the pirates to storm the main ship.
There are no BP involved since, technically, Joshua is no longer a bracer. But winning does give you quite a chunk of XP and the neverending satisfaction to have bested one of the hardest fights in the game (IMO).

@@canasnewell3089 I'd give that title to the 3rd Jaeger in the prologue. That was a true nightmare compared to this battle.
Fox Tenson on every difficulty that isn’t nightmare, yes. On nightmare though Mueller is so much harder than Spear Jaeger in terms of just pure RNG and attention required to optimize the fight. Cause spear jaeger on nm is just spam and spray, mueller says fuck you to that. He even has anti-NG+ cheese since you can’t carry over equips here xD
Though unlike spear jaeger, mueller has the courtesy of being optional at least.
To me one of the hardest battles is the one with Estelle in the Glorious against all the jaegers at once with a very limited time, you need to actually have a LOT of LUCK to be able to kill all of them to get the extra BP there since Estelle is not good with AOE crafts it seems XD
Why am I just now noticing that the facial expressions have more than 2 versions in the battle portraits?
Also this is definitely one of my favorite fights in SC. Feels really hype, taking on a high ranking officer from another country essentially solo

this fight was so hype! beat him by clocking up Joshua and clocking down Mueller. Then after spam normal attacks and use either dual strike or s craft during critical bonuses
The strat I came up with to beat him was the same as this, but I added Sylphen Guard.
First round ran to bottom corner (so Mueller focuses on Josette), then clock down, then sylphen guard (by now Josette should be down), then clock up ex (he will attack you but hopefully miss since sylphen is up). The rest is the same. 3 or 4 attacks, then reapply the debuff/buffs, and repeat over and over until he's defeated (finished off with s-craft), with the occasional heal (I just used the items found at the fort). I beat him at level 72 (Hard) this way since he missed almost every second attack (sometimes missing multiple in a row, giving me like 6 or more attacks to his one actual hit).
Pretty easy, just very long. Probably works on Nightmare too with a bit more management...sylphen guard is amazing.

does winning against muller grant additional bp? I'm playing hard on a fresh run and he's driving me nuts
+marti david As far as I know, no it doesn't. I think it just changes some dialogue here and there but that's it.
You can do this without grinding 3 levels. Same strategy.
It's WAY closer and you'll have to go through way more supplies, but I totally beat him at 72 on Hard.
It's also possible on nm, just ridiculously so.
EDIT: nope, the run I was thinking about does it at lvl 75 but is still ridiculous.

I want to do a new game in nightmare but I remember the battle being a pain in Hard mode... I even doubt it's possible to win in Nightmare ? Anybody ever tried it and won ?
+Fuck you Google quit asking me about using my real name its an impossible win IMHO. yoshua only got 7k+ HP while in nightmare mode muller got 25k+ HP, a single attack deals 3.3k and his craft got 3.5k while his highest craft got 4.5k+ damage plus immune too all status effect even AT delay, even if you cast "clock up break" and "clock down" muller still have high speed so you have 25% chance to have a turn after you attack.. surprisingly the match won't make you do S-break-heal-S-break strategy unlike 3rd and other SC battles.. if you use "Shin Dankkoken" (True Server), muller will have 3 turn after you S-break... its suicide :(
SO I guess in Nightmare mode, muller is still strong that you can't beat him in yoshua current state. (only dialogue difference is josste, yoshua also state muller is a major rank )
What is the reasoning behind starting with Joshua so close to Mueller? Does he always use mirage edge on a caster, and will get a second turn if he only moves during his first turn?
+Kyll Schomberg Actually the main reason I do that is because I don't want Joshua and Josette close to each other, that way Mueller can't use his Craft that hits both of them.
yeah, this fight if there's one person died, it will record on Estelle's bracer note (1 loss). Typically, you shall not have any casualties here, you have to protect Josette too.
