Yep, I dropped that log I had wedged in my belt as my dad was doing the back cut. He sat on the edge of hill , soaked in blood smoking his pall malls. We were about twenty miles from home up in another creek. 45 years later I still remember how dangerous it can be in the woods.

If it makes you feel any better I saw a tree service that had a saw that was in far worse shape than that. So we hire these guys to trim up a longleaf pine for us because the limbs were getting so big that they were coming off, and about halfway through his first cut is engine got bound up, and one time one of the limbs almost hit his spotter in the head, and knocked him off of his tree steak. This happened because he didn’t want to stop to fix it so the saw kept stalling out on him.

Reminds me of a pecan I cut down. I had a rope tied up high and was pulling with my truck. I would saw hear some cracking and get out of the way. Then nothing. Apply some more pulling tension with the truck and saw a little more. Hear a crack and run out of the way then nothing. Try to pull it on over with truck but only spin the tires. At this point I had cut almost all the way through. Saw a little more. Probable only about 1/4" of tree left. Still couldn't pull it over with truck. I could not believe what I was seeing. Finally cut a tiny bit more and over it went. To think I was worried about the wind breaking the during a storm.
