I noticed in todays video, that you purchased corn.
In my family, we harvest the corn leaves. They are washed, dried and kept in a dry place. When we need them, we boil them in water to rehydrate them. Use them to make tamales. Which is a pie or cake, filled with meat and corn flour. Corn flour batter is flavored with broth and use animal fat to make the dough. Spread on the corn leaf . Put a filler on top, wrap it tight and steam in a pot for hours. Very similar to your cakes. Except we use corn flour instead of rice. Sometimes the filler: We fill these with cheese. Or chicken stew. Or meat stew. Or beans. Or left overs. Depends on the occasion and celebration. We even make them sweet and with fruit. Even sweetened corn. Raisins or dates. Dried fruit.
The corn hair, has many uses. We do dry and store in a dry place. To make tea. Flavor broth. Or to use to scrub clean surfaces.
We also cook the husk after removing the kernels. To extract the corn milk and make cream of corn. For soups and sauces. The waste husk, we recycled into compost to garden.
I really enjoyed watching you make your cakes. In my family we don’t fry too much. Most of the newer oils I cannot eat because it makes me sick.
I cook at home. Can’t eat too much of the pre made, prepackaged food. Not good for me. I’m surprised to see the many foods made that require frying. Thank you for sharing your cooking. Learn something new each time.thank you for your video.
