Making Inserts for the Festool Sys Mini 3

- I visited my local Axminster store recently and could not resist buying a Sys Mini 1 and a Sys Mini 3. The smaller Sys Mini 1 will be used as a general purpose tool carrier. In this video I describe how to make some tray inserts for the Sys Mini 3 which can also be used with the Sys Mini 1.
Thanks for sharing. I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one guilty of purchasing something, then trying to find a need for it. Or in this case seeing a neat project and finding an excuse to buy another mini systainer!
Hi Gary, I may buy another as the trays turn the Sys Mini 3 into an excellent storage box. Cheers. Peter
Just got a couple of these sys3 minis for drill bits etc. and will make some of these trays out of MDF slightly customised to suit.
This is brilliant! Very happy to find great UK woodworking channel. I will get into these, but this far videos look superior! Thank you beyond words and you got a subscriber!
Thank you so much and welcome to The New Brit Workshop. Cheers. Peter
Love your work. Great video again
Thank you! Cheers!
Peter, Thankyou for an excellent video and all the measurements . Just bought a couple of these mini systainers !. I have no excuse now
Hi John, I think that they are brilliant. Cheers. Peter
New Brit Workshop hi Peter - just noticed that you are at Harrogate show this week. Will be there Friday - hope to be able to see you there
Hi John, yes come and say hello. I am there every day of the show. Peter
New Brit Workshop will do Peter
Peter, great to meet you at Harrogate on Friday. Many thanks for your advice I ordered the Kapex 60 mitre saw and the CXS drill driver. I also picked up the last two assembly squares that Axminster had at the show. Keep up with your excellent range of videos. I found them very informative and they kept me encouraged when illness kept me out of the workshop earlier in the year. Regards
Great demo of clamping different configurations!
My friend always good learning with you , i love your vídeos , one better than the other , thank you .
Hi Marcos, Many thanks. Peter
Nice work Peter. Think I'll have to have a go at this in the quest for more organisation!
Hi Darrel, I have had many years of an untidy workshop and I am slowly getting to grips with it all. Cheers. Peter
New Brit Workshop I am working on untidy shopitis as well! It is a work in progress.....
😊
Love it! I have a Sys Mini One. I bought it to .... well look at......couldn't resist lol Now to find a use for it!
Great. Peter
Brilliant ! Great video 👍
Hi John, Many thanks. Peter
Now this is funny. I was watching your video on the tool to remove dogs when I thought about asking what you do to store all your dogs. Now I know :-) Thanks.
Hi Jim, I think that my Sys Mini 3 should be called my "Kennel" !! Peter
Another very helpful vid Peter, thank you.
Cheers. Peter
Another great video peter, i have been looking at the mini systainers and this has convinced me to get some.
I am curious though, your ks60 has a clamp on the left that looks like some kind of festool push down clamp to hold timber. Is that an official festool product and do you recall what it is called? It looks live a great alternative to the screw down basic clamps.
Thanks
Hi James, It came from Bessey but there are similar ones on the market. Bessey quality is superb of course. Peter
Another excellent video. Thanks Peter
Cheers. Peter
Nice video Peter, what kind of wood did you use and how thick were they....love your videos.......Cheers
Hi Danny, The wood is either Ash, Poplar or Tulip but anything will do - the sides are 8 mm thick. Cheers. Peter
Great stuff. Thank you! I have 6 of those rascally boxes and now a new project; 6 new projects. Were you in Austin Powers? 😂
Excellent video Peter. In this vid you use an "assembly square". I am very interested how this is build and what functionallity all the holes have. I cannot find a vid about this. Do you produce one? Dietmar
Hi Dietmar, The UJK Assembly Square is available from Axminster - www.axminster.co.uk/ujk-technology-assembly-square-105280 or product code 105280. I will be making a video about it and some other Parf products in the not too distant future. The various holes and slots give you loads of clamping and positioning options. Peter
Another informative video. Will be copying the masking tape technique. Thank you.
US prices for Systainers seem to be double those in UK. The SysMini 3 you showed for 15 Euros is priced at 34 USD at Woodcraft, which is 30 Euros this week. Wish it were otherwise.
Gosh, those prices are awful but the same happens the other way around. Peter
I recently purchased the mini 3 I'm going to line it with foam, drill some sound holes and use it to keep my blue tooth speaker and smart phone protected
Hi Billy, That is an excellent idea. Cheers. Peter
Peter, I greatly enjoy watching your very informative videos. I apologise if you’ve answered this in a previous video, but when cutting the mitered joints is there a particular reason you’ve tilted your Kapex to the side, instead of rotating it around the vertical axis?
It is far more accurate that way as the wood is more stable and easier to hold. Peter
Thanks Peter for sharing. I am wondering what the small overlap is good for when glueing.
Hi Axel, When the pieces are moved from a straight line to the square the masking tape can sretch slightly and the 0.5 mm overlap (ish) allows for that. Peter
Hi Peter, I love watching your videos and like you, also 'needed' to buy one of those mini sys 3 boxes from Axminster. What wood do you use for the insert trays please?
Hi Daniel, I had some odd ends of ash and sycamore and cannot remember which I used - I have not been across to the workshop yet ! Peter
Love it Peter,
Great idea 💡
I’m going to copy exactly what you’ve done here - hope you don’t mind 😜👌🏼
Hi Gary, That is why I do this - you have all the information you need in the video. Peter
New Brit Workshop 👌🏼😊
That Sys mini 1 fits inside the wooden insert that Festool sell for the 5
Brilliant
Hi James, Many thanks. Peter
All you need now is some right angle Parf Dogs! What Is the UJK Right Angle guide made of?
This is the perfect way to store the dogs. May have to take the plunge on these for my dogs... Do you have any concerns about dog damage due to rolling around in the box? I was thinking I might put kaizen foam in the inserts to prevent them rolling around.
Are you on any social media or email yet since UA-cam took away the private message function?
Thanks Peter. Good video!
Hi Ron, The dogs are made of stainless steel and will come to no harm at all. UA-cam did away with Private Messaging in July. Just post a comment with you email address in t. 99% of the time this will get picked up by the UA-cam spam system and not be visible to the public. I can then react to it and then delete it. I am away from today, without my computer, and will not be back until next Tuesday as I am at the Harrogate Show. Peter
New Brit Workshop Ok thanks Peter. On all the above. 😊
Ron
Hello, thanks for the film, one question please . What are the small Kapex side extensions called ? They look handy.
Stu
Hi Stu, They are Crown Stops (494369). Cheers. Peter
I was thinking, it would be nice to cut a load of dados then you could move the dividers about? Similar to the Festool-made containers :)
Go for it. Peter
Peter, have they discontinued the Sys Mini 3??
It looks as though they have. I have looked at both Festool UK and the Tanos German web sites and could not find them. Try a few dealers who may still have some old stock. Peter
@@NewBritWorkshop Thanks Peter. I wonder why....
Great video Peter, just what I've been looking for thank you.Spot on.what material did you use?
Hi Bob, The sides are solid sycamore and the bases are all 1/4" veneered MDF (left over from the chests of drawers not so long ago). Many thanks. Peter
First
Bravo ! Peter
Greatly enjoyed the video! Thank you for sharing.
