    Howard, my friend your videos are smashing my wallet! 😂😂
    I’ve just picked up a Vito iia with matching Voightlander rangefinder for the shoe and looking forward to trying it out.
    May I say though (with all jokes aside) that your presentations have brought me such joy in my journey of joining vintage film photography. My thanks to you and wishing you seasons greetings from a cold and blustery England. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

      Hi Laurie, sounds like you're starting to suffer the dreaded GAS syndrome. I had a bad case about 10 years ago. 😀
      Congratulations on your Vito IIa. I've never actually handled one, but I'm sure it's the same superb engineering that Voigtlander practised in that era. Rangefinder unit as well, very impressive.
      That system will certainly introduce you to "Slow Photography".
      I'm pleased that you are enjoying your vintage film journey.
      Have a great Christmas, you never know, you might get some snow for the festive season.
      Cheers, Howard 🇦🇺

    I own an early model without cold shoe. I've finally completed my set with box, manual, filters, case and lens hood. So easy to use. I love shooting with it but only take it out on our group photo walks. Thanks for another good video.

      Hi again Jaime.
      I've got some of those. I have a nice case and lens hood case, a lens hood and a yellow filter.
      Unfortunately I have too many cameras to chase down all the relevant bits and pieces.
      It's a nice thing to do though.
      Cheers, Howard

      @@howpow I have run a roll through it after a CLA. Works like a charm. I have pictures from the 50s with the camera in my grandfather's hand. So, the camera has value to me beyond its native charm. Have to get the case repaired to complete its restoration. Cheers!

      @@brentbrown51 That's great Brent, a family heirloom.
      Perhaps you'll be able to pass it on eventually.

      Hi Eli. The Vito II is a great little camera. I hope "Hi Peanut" enjoys it. They are fairly rare these days. Thanks for the comment. Howard

    Some of the similar folding Kodak Retina cameras with Schneider-Kreuznach lenses which were manufactured during the same period are also very nice. A few models also have a built in rangefinder. Balda / Baldina folding cameras with Rodenstock Heligon and Schneider Xenon lenses are also nice.

    • @howpow
      @howpow  2 роки тому

      Hi Christopher, I agree, all the cameras you mentioned are very desirable, unfortunately I don't have any of them, I wish I did but I have too many already, over 100.
      If I thin out some of the later cameras I might look at getting some of the earlier ones such as the Retinas. 🙂

    I have one of these that my mother bought in England way back when. I always thought it was pre war but I’ve since learned it isn’t. It’s older than yours. Perhaps one of the original 1949 or thereabouts. I took it all over when I was younger - Asia, S. America, Europe and much of the States and Canada. I still have the instruction book. I’m by no means a skilled photographer, but I took some very good pictures with it just following the instruction booklet. I also used the timer to get some selfies back before selfie sticks or the term was invented.

      Thanks for the comment STOG. they're still very capable little film cameras. I took a roll of 24 on a lockdown walk last year and they all came out very well.

    Hiya, I have an issue with my camera, it's not exactly the same as yours but very very close. The shutter won't open when taking a photo I have to manually clip it open when taking a photo, resulting in me using the 1-second shutter speed. I was wondering if you knew how to fix this issue

    • @howpow
      @howpow  2 роки тому

      Hi Dardan, I don't have a quick answer. If the camera is in really nice condition and it means a lot to you, it needs to be taken to a camera repair person for a quote to fix it Good luck.

    When you load the film how do you make sure its aligned properly on the first frame?

    • @howpow
      @howpow  10 місяців тому

      Hi Andrew. The frames are not in specific places on the film strip.
      The camera creates the frames with each exposure.

    Just picked up my one this weekend....has top speed of 1/500th
    the cold shoe you have choice you can unclip it I use a tea spoon handle to minimise damage to top plate.... yellow filter came with it not certain of year....
    Plan to run dummy film through it first to get feel of camera....
    They say slow speeds/ escapment not working below 1/25th
    Others say exercise it....etc......but I don't really know???

    • @howpow
      @howpow  Рік тому

      Hi Phil. You could try exercising it but if there is no improvement after 10 or 20 attempts it obviously needs cleaning.
      However the slower speeds are rarely used in general photography so you can still use the camera.
      They are lovely little cameras and it deserves a proper clean and adjust procedure from a camera technician.
      Cheers, Howard 📷
