  • This is a poetic translation meaning that it is focused on the deeper meaning and sense of "saudade" rather than the literal.
    For example: "Trago um fado no meu canto" can be literally translated as, "There is a fate in my song" - I've chosen "Bring sadness to my side" as a more lyrical choice.
    Similarly, the translated lyric pays close attention to the scansion and the sense of tension and release (sprung rhythm) or the original.
    However, it ignores the rhyme scheme of the original which would be obtrusive if copied slavishly to English. e.g. "fate in my song... cried all night long"
    This is offset by using half rhymes, double end rhymes "A Sea a land, And..." as well as using various chimes and consonance.
    All in all, I'm really pleased with the results... What I'd like to experiment with next is to transpose the arrangement to a jazz/bebop sensibility...
