Would be nice to have this video also for the nomad platform. There are a lot of newbies like me that own a nomad machine.

You need to rub the oil all over the whole rails, lightly wiping off excess if you overdo it, it protects it from rusting. You should be able to still see oil on it/oily to the touch. Put oil on a lint free cloth or blue shop towel and just wipe it on.

This is a good one because even the vets get this wrong!

Thank you Fleming. Hope this gets the attention it needs. I clean my machine every three weeks. Lube the "Z" when I don't see a film when it moves. There has got to be an easier way to lube the bottom of the "Z"

Since the bottom is the hardest, and perhaps impossible looking, this should be included in the video. I need to lube that bearing but have not because it appears to need the z carriage removed to get to the grub screw. Somebody please show how this is done without removing the z.

Great help, thanks. The top ports on the Z linear blocks are pretty easy to see and access and, well... gravity. But how do I put 3ml of oil in the bottom bearings against gravity?

Thanks Fleming! Would like to pick your brain regarding your spindle. Has it been a vast improvement over the palm router? Was it worth the $$?

From Fleming: Depends on your needs! I think it’s a great step up from a traditional hand router, and would benefit anyone cutting hard plastics and metal with its beefier torque. Though if you’re more of a weekend warrior cutting mostly wood here and there, it may be an expensive and unnecessary endeavor. To each their own!

Here in the UK it seems Mobil Vactra No2 is sold only in large containers. Would 3-IN-ONE OIL work as a substitute for linear rails?

Here's a solution. Currently available for backorder: www.lubefinder.com/mobil-vactra-oil-no-2.html

Can anyone explain how to get to the oil port screws on the bottom set of bearings of the z axis on the shapeoko 5? The video says you should be able to access the oil port without taking anything apart. there is 3/8 of an inch between the two bearings, not enough room for my fingers or an allen wrench. I have a horrible noise when the z axis goes up and down. Lubed the screw and top bearing with no change yet. Thanks to anyone that can send some thoughts.

Lonniee, there are oil port screws on both ends of the linear bearings. Use the top ports for your upper bearings and the lower ports for your lower bearings.

@@carbide3dwon’t the oil just pour back out of the hole?
