Spent a week in Fernie fishing the Elk , what fun . Nice town with great vibe beautiful surroundings and a river that is just wonderful to fish .

I agree Clint! Although my lady isn't hardcore like me, when salmon season hits or we are going real remote back country, she grabs her fly rod. I fish damn near every weekend, and all holidays and vacations, but she does about 10 days a year. Damn it if she doesn't out fish me 9 out of those 10 too! Her first time using dries she doubled me in fish! I'm keeping her!

Great videos!! I'd love to get up there to Southern BC and fish that river!! Female in the video----Do you guide? Do you have a web page? Why do you put your left hand up the rod when you are fighting the fish? That can weaken the rod at that point and cause the rod to snap

Where is the Elk river. I live in Maine and we have some beautiful country too. Some so pristine because it is relatively untouched by humans. This looks like a dream I have so you have to tell me where it is so I can plan a trip. All the best to you, Sean

ANGLER BE AWARE. Fishing the Elk River is VERY costly. I fell for the hype of the “world class river” and after spending nearly $5,000.00 for a trip from Los Angeles to Fernie, got skunked. After paying $80.00 for a yearly fishing license (non-resident and over (8) days of fishing), I had to pay $20.00 every day that I fished a river. So, even though this was to be a fishing trip I ended up doing a lot of sightseeing instead.
Unless you can afford to pay $625.00 per day for rafting (one or two angler is the same cost), don’t hope for easy access to the river in many places. They also suggest (expect) $100.00 a day as tip to the guide.
That is $725.00 plus $20.00 each day in addition to the regular fishing license. I was there for 11 days and not once saw a warden checking on anybody. In fact a kid that was using an illegal lure with treble hook told me he has not been inspected for nearly (5) years!
There are two fly shops in the town that have the guide service and merchandise. I had boxes and boxes of flies, yet according to one salesman who said (“even a cigarette butt can catch fish in this river”) it was not good enough. However, their $3.00 a fly for sale would work. There are other guide services, but without a shop. They must receive some percentage form the F&W, in addition of a $1.00 they charge the customer for issuing the license. A big scam if you ask me.
I did have a great time visiting BC and Alberta. Next time I will go to Alberta, which has a cheaper license cost and no per day charge.
I don’t know where the $20.00 a day fee goes, since I did not see any work done on the river. I doubt if the residents can afford to pay that fee to fish the river that runs through their town.
I did have a great time visiting and enjoying the natural beauty of the places that I passed. I even went to Calgary and Banff in Alberta.
I was working for the airlines lobbying office in DC and won round trip airfare to Iceland at the Christmas party. Fishing a beat started at 760 Euros for two days and up depending on what fish you were after and how long (usually four days was the max) you wanted to be on the water. Most of the guide services included food and lodging.
