i'd love to see the beginning of a new character just starting on their witcher path. and then building on from there. Actually experiencing the trials of the grasses, the comradery, the losses ect.

But I believe rebuilding the witcher school might be a thing in next game. Yea they lost igredients, but what if someone found a trail to the long lost books on how to make needed ingredients? Sonwe coukd meet full grown empress Ciri at some point, maybe not in a next game but a second from the new trilogy?
I would have loved a story based on the collapse of the witcher order and the establishment of the different witcher schools. You could choose your school and follow different paths and builds and stuff like that. Would be so cool
The cat school is often referred to as a corrupted entity, whose members became hired assassins. This is an incredibly good premise on its own. A game could follow this school's downfall and place the hero in a unique moral dilemna - to follow the witcher way or follow the politics.
I would like them to leave Geralt and Ciri’s story alone with the endings we got at the end of the Witcher 3. It ended with a great sense of accomplishment and the video they released for the Witcher’s anniversary was a fantastic way to say thank you and goodbye to Geralt from CDPR
Although I'm sure there were certain limitation of the REDEngine that Unreal will be able to solve, I do think that CDPR with their REDEngine had some of the best facial animations and textures. Even some scenes in TW3 captured more realism and emotion than most games can today and Cyberpunk also looked great in that regard. I hope this partnership with Epic will incorporate that aspect of the REDEngine tech into this new witcher game and other future games as well.
I've played plenty of games and of all the ones that involved having extensive conversations with Characters, NONE ever captured the right kind of *feel* that the Witcher 3 did Personally I really hope that we don't get over-done graphics that cause all of the faces to have a sort of weird uncanny valley effect, but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see for now
Yeah, it just doesn't work with DX12 much like Ubisoft's AnvilNext 2.0 game engine doesn't work well with DX12 making Valhalla a bug ridden mess that crashes a lot on PC and throws a lot of "Unable to proceed in quest XXX" errors ... A DX12 game engine needs to be written from the ground up and just patching a DX11 game engine just doesn't cut it because the way it handles CPU cores/threading, the way it handles memory management both system and VRAM and the shader pipelining is completely different. I fear that Witcher 3 Complete Edition may be rough on release because it's trying to use a DX11 game engine with DX12
they built a library that could understand dioluge to filter than compose the appropriate movement and gestures. textures were fine but if you ever play is again in absolutely necessary to use hulk hogans texture overhaul it speaks for its self and is better than even some skyrim mods

The "Through Time and Space" quest was maybe the most magical part of the Witcher 3's main storyline, and my favorite main quest. Traveling between worlds really opens up your imagination. For anyone who read C.S. Lewis, the Time and Space quest gave me the same sense of wonder I felt as a kid reading The Magician's Nephew. If they could make a game that is grounded in the world of the Witcher, with either Ciri or one of her descendants experiencing a storyline that takes us across worlds, that could be fantastic. There are endless story possibilities there. What I hope they don't do is a repackaging of witcher storylines, just with another protagonist instead of Geralt. We'd all like to go back and play the Witcher 3 (and maybe 1 and 2 as well) again for the first time, but a game that incorporates a lot of the same experiences with a new witcher is just going to feel hollow due to all the lore and depth behind Geralt's character.
Geralt's character is fairly bland and generic in the games, he's a pretty standard protagonist. The Witcher 4 will never be as good as the Witcher 3, the latter had tons of lore and decades of writing to inspire it and build up to it. I doubt any game will be able to live up to what it did. But the Witcher 1 was a good game, some would say a great game for the time, even though it deliberately threw out the lore behind it. So I'm hoping for a new story on par with Witcher 1 (or Witcher 2) with the updated gameplay and graphics of today.
@@Kronos0999 Since monsters exist on the continent because of the conjunction, it seems like a new witcher protagonist- Ciri or one of her descendants- could easily incorporate a lot of monster hunting across the witcher world and other worlds. Maybe the game start's 25 years after the events of TW3 where Ciri's son or daughter wants to train as a witcher. You have an origin story as the first act. Maybe monsters are being brought onto the continent from other worlds for nefarious purposes. You have plenty of monsters to kill and a story that pulls the protagonist across space and time. I could see that game being very established in existing lore- feeling very "witcher-y", while also bringing us to places we haven't seen before.
@@jordanolafson I dunno, I feel like traveling across space and time is going to make it feel like Doctor Who, Stargate or some other sci-fi thing and not really fantasy nor witcher-y at all. I definitely already started to feel like that with the mini world jumping quest in Witcher 3 - Mass Effect minus guns.
Speaking of Unreal5 vs REDengine, I just hope they manage to keep the fantasy look TW3 has. It's not super realistic looking, yet it's still graphically a great looking game, and it has a unique visual style which, in my opinion, perfectly captures the fantasy look the Witcher is set in. I hope they also manage to maintain the lighting differences in different regions, like in TW3. I loved how Velen was a dark and gloomy place, but when you went to Novigrad it had a almost completely different tone.
Yeah I agree. In my opinion games will probably never look like reality so why even attempt to achieve it? When I play a game I dont want it to look like the world that I see everyday when I take a look outside the window.
I'd love to see more about the old world of the Witcher personally. Maybe letting us play characters like Erland of Larvik or Arnaghad. Not looking likely for the next saga but even a side game like Thronebreaker would be good for me. I wonder who exactly would be the next bbeg though? The Wild Hunt is beat. Nilfgaard has either won or lost terribly. The Lodge is basically finished. I doubt a gang like Salamandra of any of the Novigrad gangs like Blind Eyes or Cuttups would be believable...
The options I can think of are -Ciri as the main character -A sequel, many years later, so the world has established a new order. Which would probably mean much less old characters and book references as well as a mostly original story -A prequel of sorts

Id love to see a golden age story When there were still lots of monsters and witchers everywhere, maybe see a bit more love for witchers who are needed Also a game set right at or after the collision with one of the first witchers studying the monsters and how to make proper witcher gear would be awesome
Starting just before the conjuction. We see how the monsters arrive and the trouble that they cause. Then the start of the Witchers, how the trial of the grasses started, and then following a newly made Witcher on the path. For me this would be perfect.
Can't believe it's finally happening and that you are making this video. The characters in the Witcher 3 genuinely feel like old friends at this point no other video game book tv show or movie made me feel that way about characters it will be SO weird going back to this world without them in the center of it, but like you said the community should wish the developers luck and let's see what we get. Also slight update on my last comment about the Blacksmith in Kaer Trolde, it looks like your interaction with him is alot more bugged than mine, I only need to meditate an hour near him and I can interact with him but it looks like your game is more bugged for some reason (I play the GOG GOTY edition version of the game if that helps) so I hope it works for you and not bug out! He tells about A "Battle axe that speaks" about fights it went through every Saovine and about a sword that Geralt notices is made of Meteorite steel, which he responds with "No, from the heart of a falling star" and how whoever wields it will never lose his way at sea. Also important, the story with the Meteorite steel sword story might not work the first few times so try the dialogue option a few more times it will work eventually. Also we need a side quest with a character named Letalis in that game, FOR SURE.
That's one of the reasons why I replay this game... Doing stuff with Vesemir, finding Zoltan and Dandelion in Novigrad, chatting with Eskel and Lambert. This is also why I always postpone the Battle of Kaer Morhen and play HoS first - it prevents further interaction with multiple important characters.
@@bosmaior114 I had never even thought to play HoS (or B&W) before the Battle of Kaer Morhen.... I might have to give it a try on my next NG+ once I finish my current (and first) NG+ and my first go at Thronebreaker which I just recently bought. Does it change very much or is it just a few dialog options?
@@joeflosion If you play HoS before Vesemir dies the dialogue with one of the characters at the auction house changes, and you have the option of asking Vesemir about it, too. :-) Edit - also, your character will be vastly overpowered during the Battle of Kaer Morhen. :-)
Since they confirmed the animal of the medallion as a lynx, I'd love to play a brand new witcher character, even a totally customizable one. The snow makes me hope to see Kovir and Poviss (can't stop thinking about the brief period of time Dijkstra spent there in the books, they seem beautiful).
@@Cupapet93 ok honest question how would being able to customise your charcter be a franchise disaster? I mean if it's cause of story concerns (I mean Skyrim is amazing but the story is well lousy given you can be literally everything, even as a warrior you can be the archmage who knows like 2 spells), could just have a set charcter you make your own similar to mass effect (ie John/Jane), that way you keep the focus on story but the bonus of making your Witcher well yours, especially given it would be a brand new character with no lore unlike geralt. If it's another reason I'd be curious to hear.

I hope they remain somewhat faithfull to TW3 with keeping it third person, having loads of cinematics and giving the player the chance to make impactful decisions. I feel like those things really were the things that Cyberpunk was missing, although it might not be fair to compare the two. Cant wait to learn more.
it'll be interesting to see how cd projekt will handle this, geralt is everyone's favorite witcher character and it will be hard to top him, also they CANT mess up the story and quests, i just hope "cyberpunk incident" won't happen again with the witcher 4
I read this medallion is the head of a lynx, so we will most likely get a new school and the possibility of creating our own witcher. I like this idea. Besides, I agree with Jinzee. She said this school can reside in Dragon Mountains where there is only snow and white dragons. I think we could see Geralt and get a quest from him, but I don't think he will be a bigger part of the game. I'm sure the next game will be better than Cyberpunk. The CDPR certainly learned from their mistakes. They know people love them for The Witcher, so they have to do everything they can to make the next game perfect. Besides - 5:17 - Iorveth !!! I hope we'll see him in the next game. Him and Saskia!
I wonder why people are so keen on character generation. I've played my share of RPG-style video games, but one thing they all had in common: the more customizable my character was, the less the game world cared about what I had actually created. Not giving a lot of options for character creation gives the design team more room to set up a story path that actually fits the character.
Though I feel like at times a purely story driven game feels disconnected when you make your own character some of the best story games of our time, Witcher, Red Dead, GTA feel amazing because you fall in love with the characters and connect. A good example is Far Cry 5 and how it was hard to connect with your character compared to the others, it just all depends on how you do it, like Elder Scrolls Games do it perfectly.
I just finished Thronebreaker and I'm so glad that you spoke of the game. I'm not fond of the idea of egyptian witchers or things like that, but expanding the story of the North, of Nilfgaard, of what we know of that universe seems really appealing. More Meve plz. And what I say by that isn't more of that character, but more characters masterfully written. It's all the Netflix show hasn't.
would be cool if we went back to the golden age of witchers but this time in zerrikania or someplace beyond the dragon mountains, kovir would be cool aswell, can't wait to see what the game looks like
tbh i'm sticking with this medallion being a new variant of the Cat School. Thats the only theory that make sense. If it a Lynx, this game should be set in the future because there aint no Lynx School in the books and they have to write a whole different plot for them
My theory is that Ciri is going to be in the game in a similar role as Vesemir. Teaching the new witchers and using her blood to create new witchers. I think we will play as a new character that we can design ourselves (gender, looks etc) and choose a backstory which will be integrated in the game.
that's exactly what I thought. xD.... But I think designing your own character wouldn't be that great because it ruins a lot of possible backstories. I rather want one good story instead of 2-3 normal stories. And thinking about the decrease of witchers while still a lot of monsters are there, creating new ones would tell a great story. Especially thinking about the Ciri as emperor ending to bring peace and prosperity to the new empire. There is also a lot of potential for the elves and their return and end of the racism.
I wish they'd simply make a Witcher 3 directors cut with all the cut content. E.g. Catrionaplague questline, Iorveth, some more hierarch stuff, the end fight against the wild hunt in Novigrad, Djikstra and the war having an ending that isn't completely stupid, which the theatre scene most certainly was. I sadly do not think CDPR will make a W4 that will compare to W3.
Better than that, don’t waste time announcing witcher 4 until all the additions and new maps are added. I’m glad I didn’t waste time going through 3 until Wild hunt came through with all the additions. What a dull laborious drag to have to go through The Whole thing over and over just to see how the patch’s improved everything.
@@tropicthndr we're talking two very different things. You're talking about release practices. DLC's are normal. Games having bugs on release is also an industrywide reality. CDPR really messed that one up with Cyberpunk and it's hardly going to be better. Like you already state we already have a solution for that, and that's simply to buy it later. I'm talking about the fact that the main questline in W3 wasn't finished properly storywise and that it's a damn shame.
@@jonesjohnson6301 I fully agree, at some parts it felt rushed and incomplete, and I also disliked said theatre scene. It was the same with BaW actually, in the latter half of the game I remember there was, all of the sudden, a huge story arc leap that almost felt like a plot hole. Take your time CDPR, I'll gladly wait 3 years longer for TW4. If I could chose, I would even prefer a new and proper (remade) TW3 over everything else.
I'm imagining that this new saga is going to explore the point of view of a brand new Witcher in the Era where Witchers were a very new and popular thing in society after the Conjuction of the Spheres, and a time where witchers were loved and revered by the public for their bravery, as opposed to the original Witcher trilogy where it was mainly focused on the ending of the Witcher Era, with witchers being nearly extinct and hated by society. It would open up so much more potential for everything.
I would love to see ciri or geralt as an easter egg, or maybe a side mission or two (which you only get if you get either empress or witcher ending). It'd be nice to see them being calm, at corvo bianco or somewhere else for example. However i find it more likely there to be an easter egg to them both.
If they do go with Ciri's descendant(Which i think is the best idea mainly beacause of the possibilities the Elder Blood opens), he could be a Witcher from a new and/or more modern school wich banned the mutations(because the witchers we know find it cruel). It could even tap into different technology like basic gunpowder weapons.
Well, the best way I think this could go, is that the rest of the witchers band together as more and more monsters emerge and form a new school and you play as one of the children being trained and have the options of making your own character and more details, but I'm too lazy to write.
I would actually love to see the game take place after the conjunction of the spheres. It could be told from so many different perspectives of all the different races and how they came together in this world. Whatever they do with this game, I hope it doesn't take place after The Witcher 3, timewise, because I couldn't play a game in which Geralt or any of my favorite characters don't live anymore :( So as long as the story is about something that happened before TW3 I'm happy with that :D
I am baffled at why more don't think of such scenario. In the standalone Gwent game, there has been ton of cards and background exploration of different witcher schools, events from right after the conjunction of the spheres, Alzur's experiments etc. This is the time when people are not yet dominant race on the Continent, the human mages are being taught magic by the elves. The monsters are still aplenty, there are dragons posing threat to growing settlements and witchers are just being formed as profession and they thrive in the dangerous environment. We have to remember that Geralt's times are already when witchers are a dying breed, even Geralt itself is suffering from lack of mission or sense in his life (at least in the books in the begining - later on he has Ciri) We could also explore some Lara Dorren + Cregenan from Lod politics, or Falca timeline, plenty of other interesting locations, elvish cities at their prime, maybe more of Nilfgaard or Zerrikania just like xLetalis mentioned. I mean, this just too much of space for a new story, although lacking Geralt will be a hit in the stomach.
I would love to see the game take place on the new continent, that was mentioned in the books. I don't remember which one, but it was before the redanian king was killed and where Ciri wandered through the city next to Thaned
I think the Witcher 4 could include a multitude of diffrent playable witchers throghout the game's story representing all schools - Vesemir for school of the wolf, Letho for school of the viper, characters for school of the cat/bear/griffin/manticore. I think it's best to see a fresh take on W4 - brand new main character that gives excellent writers at CD Project their freedoom on making a compelling story BUT still similar to W3 and W2 let's you import a few options based on previous playthroughs including cameos from past game's results.
Honestly love the idea of making your own character(as a new witcher), with a new story that builds relationships the way Geralt has, and on a grand scale like getting involved with prophecy and complicated relationships (maybe with a cameo from Ciri or her descendant like you said). They could make the character creator really crazy and people can self insert or put their OCs in there. Love the idea of that. Cameos of the existing characters like Geralt would be cool, since witchers live very long lives, but at the same time I would be fine with him being mentioned/looked up to rather than appearing. I just hope it's another great story with the same love that was put into TW3. I'll wait til 2028 if I have to. I would rather them dump 5 years of development into it rather than for it to come out in the state that 2077 did.
Also if they have a character creator that just leaves more content for modders to make, which is the best thing. Look at games like skyrim and the sims for example; modded characters are INSANE. While modded characters in TW3 are very limited since all the characters are already established.
The only new, main component in the new game that they should focus on mainly is the combat system for me. The plot is already one of the strongest in the video game verse, and the number of side quests(optional) is already a delight to veteran gamers. While I still love the idea of potions, armour, swords, crossbows, the utility is good. However, while actually playing as geralt there is only a doge and hit mechanic that is repeated very much in the game. I say doge and not parry since most of the enemies are monsters. Introducing new fighting mechanics while repeating the same versitality in the map as the witcher 3, with a solid plot like the witcher 3 can guarantee a solid game(assuming the game is finished, no bugs, wink wink). What are your thoughts on what they should change? Also plz tell me what you thought of the combat system.
I personally loved the combat in TW3, in that it's simple to learn but difficult to master (in the sense of completing a no-damage playthrough). However, I do like your suggestion of adding more mechanics to this to allow for more variety in how we may play the game. For instance, my mind initially jumps to Elden Ring, and its feint mechanic. Not sure how exactly CDPR could implement it, but I think that would make me mix up my tactics against monsters (and even humanoids). Additionally, the backstab mechanic of other FromSoft games would, imo, be interesting here.
I honestly think TW3 combat system is the best and most fun combat system in the history of video games. I hope it stays the same just with more and more unique animations which are even changing depending what kind of sword or weapon you have. Don't even dream about no bugs. You know if you played TW3 at launch. It was....crazy....
I want to see more personalized enemies/flights that Geralt has to truly play witcher. Plus a few new monsters that throws him for a loop. Like wtf is that and how do I beat it. By more personal I mean, say having to use the right tool for the job. Sure silver sword for monsters , steel for humans. How about adding a silver knife, or a silver coated iron chain like the witcher 1 intro video. Plus having to learn new techniques to beat a certain monster.
You give them too much credit. The plot of previous games being well done does not mean the next game will be on par with it. Especially since it won’t even be about Geralt.
Dodge* doge is the meme dog lol. But yeah, I just dodged and attacked, with Quen on, mostly. Used Yrdin against Wraiths or whatever, but usually not a lot else.
I think the “obscure Witcher moves to Kovir to start the school of the cat” would kind of make sense. You can be one of the first Witchers from a brand-new school or something.
I understand your point about the 3 endings of Ciri, but man, I would love to play with her character. But I think it will probably be a character we make (and I like that idea) but story wise I don't know if it would be so... Immersive. I don't know if it allows us to care so much about the characters as I, personally, did.
Personally I'd like to see a system similar to that of the life paths in Cyberpunk. I'd love to see more info on the manticore school since we were really only teased with them in Blood and Wine.
Remember that the last thing we know about geralt is that he slayed Orianna after the events of blood and wine. Can you imagine the repercutions that the attack of the vampires on Toussaint had over nilfgard? Obviously it'd be another witch hunt, Orianna was exiled and her goods taken by the Duchess, humans working to get rid of the vampires, maybe collaborating with witchers and mages once again, etc. Perhaps there is some room for development here.
It'd be really cool if it followed Ciri as she hops from world to world before Witcher 3, and a main theme of the game is how the majority of worlds have already been taken over by the white frost, seeing different versions of that apocalypse in different world, maybe even how some rare communities have adapted to it and even thrived despite it. I think this would be good in really driving home Ciri's and Avallac'h's certainty that this world will succumb to the same fate that they both seem to have at the end of Witcher 3. Also, it'd be awesome if the (in my opinion) coolest sequence in the Witcher 3 was made into a full game, just hoping between worlds. Maybe this concept would do better as a show, or maybe even a book honestly, but that is a story I'd definitely like to see in some form.
I'm not expecting to see Ciri, Geralt, Yennefer, Triss, etc but a new cast for the next game. It could be a dive into past history; a forgotten school or an entirely new school being formed decades after Witcher 3 when witchers fall into obscurity (yes, this means Ciri is gone as well) and become a tale. Or it could even be a Witcher school set up in another world, it doesn't have to be Geralt's world. Perhaps inspired by a visit from Ciri. Or perhaps by someone who had visited Geralt's world and was inspired.
Cool video as always however i have a theory : maybe the witcher 4 will be about the last witcher because the medalion looks like it will get lost forever.
I think Ciri will be there in some capacity either as a Witcher or the Queen, but my theory is that we can be a custom Witcher. I think that would be pretty damn cool honestly Edit: CDPR if you’re reading this please let us choose between Witcher or Sorceress!
I know this comment is late, but I think Ciri as a main character is much more likely than any descendant of hers. I mean, lore-wise it doesn't seem likely she'd ever reproduce. That was basically what she was escaping for the entirety of the books and TW3, people trying to use her womb for their own gains.
The transition to Unreal engine and the collaboration with Epic is very good for CDPR as they are rather small studio. Proper graphics and smooth video is something they seem not be able to handle by themselves, so a little outside help can't be bad.
If Ciri is the protagonist CDPR can copy Cyberpunk 2077 life path prologue to branch from the three Ciri endings. During the bad ending Dandelion describes Ciri never to be seen again. He never said they found a body.
I'm 10 when the witcher 3 came out. i tried it for the first time in 2019, I absolutely love it, it's my favourite game of all time, I have 550hours on pc. I'm very hype to really live the launch of the new witcher game. Thank you very much for all of your videos !
I would be interested in playing a sorcerer/sorceress in witcher world - but might be OP. I think one of the real strengths of witcher 1,2,3 was having a really strong central character with so much backstory and I think story-telling in games isn't as good when players can generate their own characters

Personally i do not think i would wabt to play with the magical chosen one that ciri is (which because of reasons that were mentioned in the video and all would be really hard job to pull off properly) neither with Geralt which's story is already fantastically wrapped up. The idea of making your own character sounds most interesting to me since the other option of new specific protagonist honestly scares me. I am truly afraid this may make them either too similar if not the same to Geralt or his extreme complete opposite
Imagine this as the beginning of the game: You find a contract on a notice board, posted by a merchant. You find his shop and you walk in. It turns out to be a mirror shop and the merchant is doing something, say, cleaning a shelf, his back to you, while whistling his theme song. You greet him and the screen goes black and you hear his voice : "Greetings witcher, I've been waiting for you."
I just wish they would follow in the path that Gwent has set. they introduced all these new Witchers from the various schools and you should be able to choose a school and go from there. Plus, all of these introduced characters predated the ones in the current trilogy so it wouldn't affect the main series at all, and they would have a ton of flexibility.
The idea that the main character of the next game is Ciri's child would actually make a lot of sense if you take into account that in the hole Witcher books, the chosen one isn't actually Ciri, but her daughter and that's why people are always trying to use her for reproduction, for example: Vilgefortz with her placental blood, Emhyr that kills Pavetta and disappears just so he could be father to the chosen one and the Lodge that wants to marry her to the Koviri prince (cause in the Witcher royal blood has some unidentified special traits).
Yes I actually agree with this wasn't the sole reason in books that the emperor wanted to marry and commit insest with his daughter because the real prophecy about the child of ciri being all powerful

Yeah and that's exactly why it wouldn't happen. She was trying to escape that fate for all the books as well as TW3. She would not give up and submit to that fate after all that time.
Man, The Witcher universe is SO big and rich that we might have a dozen of different possibilities for a new main character and/or setting, it just blows my mind. I don't even wanna think of what is better or worse and simply be waiting for what exactly they will incept for a new Witcher game with great interest. I never thought we would get another Witcher game but I couldn't be happier that we are. No matter what The Witcher 4's story is about I know it's gonna be an amazing game. Take all the time you need CDPR don't release it too early.
The medallion for Witcher 4 could still be a wolf medallion. Although the snow around it in the picture is bit a contradictory, it could be a version of a wolf medallion based on the ancient Egyptian god Anubis.
I think it's reasonable to say that the 4th game could potentially be about lambert and kiera after vesemir's death. They do well to mention how the two will be working together in the future and we don't see any more of either character after that so it wouldn't disrupt thr game's endings. They also lack any detail on the purpose of their travels so that gives them complete freedom to build a new story without any previous expectations or limitations.
I actually hope that they choose one outcome out of Witcher 3 as the canon one. There are so many different outcomes in that game with huge effects for the Northern Realms and the import safe stuff was cool, but not really that expansive from Witcher 1 and 2 to 3, like e.g. Thaler dying in Witcher 1 but he needs to be there for 3.
Nah, Ciri is waaaaay too OP. Hard to find her challenges she could struggle with with her knowledge, skill, and exceptional powers. My guess is some forgotten witcher school's last member... maybe someone with incomplete training.
Wouldn't it be awesome, if Ciri turns out to be the first witcher? You know, she'll have to defeat the white frost by laying foundations of witcher schools - the Lynx school. In the game, you'd play as one of Ciri's apprentices, who start their new schools (wolf, bear etc), and if you choose the wolf school, you could get to see and train Vesimir as a child. :)
My biggest concern about the Unreal engine 5 change is that usually the PC versions of Unreal engine games are really bad... Unreal for some reason doesn't compile shaders in a decent way and that causes big stutters... (Final fantasy 7 remake, Ghostwire tokyo, Ghostrunner on launch, etc.) and I know unreal engine 5 looks amazing, but I really wish CDPR can manage to deliver an amazing PC version just as they have done in all their previous games.. I know the witcher 2, 3 and CP2077 are on consoles, but CDPR games come from PC and then to consoles, that is something that not happens a lot currently and I am always happy to see how amazing The witcher 3 has aged on ULTRA settings to this day... and what the heck even the witcher 2... that game looks a generation above when it came out, and the same can be said with TW3... thinking that game launched the same year as fallout 4 is insane... so yeah.. I really hope the change of the engine is for the better, and it will probably will: better recruitment, the don't have to worry on updating and investing money and time on the engine which leads to a better quality of life for the devs, etc. But I am really concerned by how the PC port will be and I want the game to look different from other games with unreal so idk... I hope this change will be for the better. I have faith the next game will be good, but they need to focus more on the RPG side of things rather than visuals just as they did with cyberpunk, I like cyberpunk, it has amazing characters like judy, Jhonny, Jackie, etc. They are charming but they are not as deep as the characters from the witcher, the presentation is amazing but there are only really like 2 quest with that level of morality that the witcher game had (imo is Judy's quest line and the major being controlled), they have to focus more on how our decisions matter, because in cyberpunk you only do all the side quests and then at the end you get to choose what ending do you want.... and that was really unsatisfying to me, in the witcher 3 it was a series of decisions and with an specific combination of those decisions you get different endings, that feels more like a journey to me rather than a buffet of what do I want, were that should not be the case in such a dark setting. But yeah I really wish luck to all the devs, they are really passionate and I want CDPR to come back and do what they are good at 💛❤
The problems on those game is not the engine, it's just that they are badly optimized, Square Enix pc port are know to be bad, and most japanese developpers don't optimize pc games very well. There are so many UE 4 games that do not have those problem
I like Geralt. And would be thrilled to have another game with him as a main character. However, I would really like to see a witcher game where we could start as a blank character. Maybe get to choose what school we were taken to, (possible pros and cons of each school). We finish the training and make a name for ourselves.
I always thought about Zerrikania as a possible location for a Witcher 4 game. But the Snow in the wallpaper seems to suggest something else. The Amulett in the wallpaper looks a little bit like a dog to me (Dobermann?) ! The only hint is: "A NEW Saga begins". So will there be a new witcher school? Will new witchers will be made? Or will "normal" humans being witchers?
One problem I see is the games becoming too mainstream. What I love about the Witcher Universe is its roots in slavic folklore and culture. CDPR has however moved away from its eastern european background and became more and more western. Many polish guys left the studio and many new, younger ones came in. I think that this can lead to CDPR becoming like every other big game company, whose games are almost always generic, uninspired and without meaning. The start of this development you can already see in Cyberpunk, where the original, deeply philosophical critique of capitalism became a boring "meh, mega-corps bad". I hope that The Witcher 4 is going to have an actual meaning and purpose like its predecessor.
I'd be more interested in playing a blank slate character. Geralt is definitely an interesting character and I loved playing Assassins of Kings and The Wild Hunt, but sometimes you feel wrong having Geralt make choices you know don't fit his character. Same can be said of playing Ciri, Lambert, Eskel, or young Vesimir, maybe to a lesser degree but still. Definitely agree on not wanting to canonize any of the endings over others.
They should have added you to their payroll years ago man, the amount of work and time you put into all these videos is insane. when it comes to Ciri... it might be set in time she was fighting White Cold, we didn't see what's happening there in Witcher 3 game. That might explain the snow on the medalion
Honestly, I m thankful for whatever they will bring up. I personally would love if they keep some of the Witcher 3 characters (it would really touch the heart, nostalgia really works on people :)), but maybe explore other lands such as Kaedwen or Zerrikania.
Personally I would like a story based around Ciri as a Witcher if the game is going to have Ciri as the main protagonist. If that ends up being the case I think they would have her lose her special powers somehow vs the main antagonist and she would train with Geralt to master her Witcher skills and maybe Yennefer could teach her some things. Something like that could be cool obviously the story needs to be more interesting than that though, those are just some things I would like to see. I'm sure CDPR will come up with a great story no matter who the main protagonist is.

for the simple fact that i dont see CDPR making any of the three W3 endings cannon i dont think Ciri will be the main character, maybe playable in parts but i think she will be used as a building piece, maybe like a mentor. If anything im wondering if they will implement a CAC kind of like Cyberpunk and that character moves up in reputation. It would be nice to start off and have to go through the trials as a kid and start as an unknown Witcher and build your reputation and Status. Everyone knew who Gearalt was, they knew what kind of person he was, would be nice to make those decision on who you are as a player, maybe your character does things that makes him become known as a ruthless monster slayer who is willing to sacrifice anything and anyone to get the kill, maybe he is Person who tries to cure the issues before leading to execution. and most importantly by allowing a CAC he could be a She, maybe there are two beginnings, girls are trained by Ciri since they cant go through the trials, while men are trained by Lambert or someone else. Maybe even better you create your own school, with its own traditions. also further evidence that they will most likely do a CAC who makes their own school or picks a school is that they only show a medallion, and it has features that could fit multiple schools, Cat, Lynx as mentioned, Wolf, and the bottom is buried in snow, so it could also have a bottom jaw and be a medallion of something roaring. but they show no form of the Character you play as. which at this point they would want to build some intrigue as to who it is by maybe even showing a hooded witcher with certain markings. its also possible the writers and directors still dont know who the character is, usually they build a world before worrying about specifics of the characters. Ill be honest, I would also like a saga that goes back in time, Play as Letho or someone from the same school as him, get into the darker side of the world.

I think if they were to allow you to play as Witcher Ciri, it would possibly be unlocked by getting that ending in the previous game and have other game ending effect characters through the story.
I think if they actually make a siri protagonist sequel they would put her in another world either when she's empress or a witcher or she doesn't actually die but she's lost in the snow world and she's trying to get back to her world. Maybe if they want a sequel that's how they can tie the endings but idk..
The thing with redengine is that only a handful of people know it. When you join CD Projekt Red you need to learn it from the basics and they can't lose any workers. Unreal Engine 5 I think is step up . They can ask epic to help them with. Epic has a lot of specialists on it so they can help CD projekt Red develop their game with less bugs and better optimization with keeping better graphics and visual effects.
I think it's worth separating the witcher plotline from that of the Elder Blood because the elder blood was essentialy a unique moment in history, or rather several, but still few and far between. There is much more lore with regards to witchers, as opposed to all powerful elfs, and there's room the expand on the magic side of things - for instance the bad blood between witchers and sorceres. They created monsters after all, and they created monster slayers. Also there's so much map! Or, and I think that's reasonable, the first human-elfs wars. Shaerrawedd and such. I can easily imagine a choice between helping them or the kings. The one scenario I would LOVE to see though - a new protagonist in the peak of Witcher trade. 150 years prior to the saga for instance, when you had several schools, all with their distinct colture and vibe, when the land knew witchers because they weren't 'the last of their kind'. The map would've been different, there would be other agenda's in play. The Chapter and Council would be in the hight of their power and we might get to meet NPC's like young Tissaia De Veris and the ladies who built Aretuza. I'd love to feel the witcher world for what it was before Nilfgard, before witcher became unicorns, before the old order crumbled entirely.
Yeah as nice as it would be to have Ciri be in the next Witcher project. It would cancel out Witcher 3 endings and the significance of them. So totally makes sense for her not to be involved. Hopefully, we'll get a new saga that will be just as inviting and rewarding to play as the tale with Geralt was.
I'm really not worried about the future protagonist. I was introduced to the Witcher way too late, actually right after finishing Rdr2. So anyone who came from the Red Dead fandom knows the fan outrage that happened when Rockstar announced that the second game is actually a prequel, that will only feature John (protagonist of rdr1) as a supporting character and not the main one. Oh the hate that people threw at Rockstar games for that. And then Rdr2 came out and we met Arthur. John who???? The game left people speechless and in love with Arthur as the new main protagonist. So I'm not worried. As much as I love Geralt, I'm not worried about the new character that CDPR will come up with. Complete trust on that front.
So idea out of left field what if they take geralts and trisses/yenifers (depending on what your choices were if you import) kid giving us the use of a potential witcher mage main character and it starts out around the last trial. so we get to build the character as we see fit from the beginning

I would have loved a story based on the collapse of the witcher order and the establishment of the different witcher schools. You could choose your school and follow different paths and builds and stuff like that. Would be so cool
The cat school is often referred to as a corrupted entity, whose members became hired assassins. This is an incredibly good premise on its own. A game could follow this school's downfall and place the hero in a unique moral dilemna - to follow the witcher way or follow the politics.

I would like them to leave Geralt and Ciri’s story alone with the endings we got at the end of the Witcher 3. It ended with a great sense of accomplishment and the video they released for the Witcher’s anniversary was a fantastic way to say thank you and goodbye to Geralt from CDPR

Although I'm sure there were certain limitation of the REDEngine that Unreal will be able to solve, I do think that CDPR with their REDEngine had some of the best facial animations and textures. Even some scenes in TW3 captured more realism and emotion than most games can today and Cyberpunk also looked great in that regard. I hope this partnership with Epic will incorporate that aspect of the REDEngine tech into this new witcher game and other future games as well.
I've played plenty of games and of all the ones that involved having extensive conversations with Characters, NONE ever captured the right kind of *feel* that the Witcher 3 did
Personally I really hope that we don't get over-done graphics that cause all of the faces to have a sort of weird uncanny valley effect, but I suppose we'll just have to wait and see for now
Yeah, it just doesn't work with DX12 much like Ubisoft's AnvilNext 2.0 game engine doesn't work well with DX12 making Valhalla a bug ridden mess that crashes a lot on PC and throws a lot of "Unable to proceed in quest XXX" errors ... A DX12 game engine needs to be written from the ground up and just patching a DX11 game engine just doesn't cut it because the way it handles CPU cores/threading, the way it handles memory management both system and VRAM and the shader pipelining is completely different. I fear that Witcher 3 Complete Edition may be rough on release because it's trying to use a DX11 game engine with DX12

they built a library that could understand dioluge to filter than compose the appropriate movement and gestures. textures were fine but if you ever play is again in absolutely necessary to use hulk hogans texture overhaul it speaks for its self and is better than even some skyrim mods

The "Through Time and Space" quest was maybe the most magical part of the Witcher 3's main storyline, and my favorite main quest. Traveling between worlds really opens up your imagination. For anyone who read C.S. Lewis, the Time and Space quest gave me the same sense of wonder I felt as a kid reading The Magician's Nephew. If they could make a game that is grounded in the world of the Witcher, with either Ciri or one of her descendants experiencing a storyline that takes us across worlds, that could be fantastic. There are endless story possibilities there.
What I hope they don't do is a repackaging of witcher storylines, just with another protagonist instead of Geralt. We'd all like to go back and play the Witcher 3 (and maybe 1 and 2 as well) again for the first time, but a game that incorporates a lot of the same experiences with a new witcher is just going to feel hollow due to all the lore and depth behind Geralt's character.
Probably. But that would take time and effort to establish and wouldn't be very "witcher-y;" you know, the hunter who hunts monsters.
Geralt's character is fairly bland and generic in the games, he's a pretty standard protagonist. The Witcher 4 will never be as good as the Witcher 3, the latter had tons of lore and decades of writing to inspire it and build up to it. I doubt any game will be able to live up to what it did. But the Witcher 1 was a good game, some would say a great game for the time, even though it deliberately threw out the lore behind it. So I'm hoping for a new story on par with Witcher 1 (or Witcher 2) with the updated gameplay and graphics of today.
@@Kronos0999 Since monsters exist on the continent because of the conjunction, it seems like a new witcher protagonist- Ciri or one of her descendants- could easily incorporate a lot of monster hunting across the witcher world and other worlds. Maybe the game start's 25 years after the events of TW3 where Ciri's son or daughter wants to train as a witcher. You have an origin story as the first act. Maybe monsters are being brought onto the continent from other worlds for nefarious purposes. You have plenty of monsters to kill and a story that pulls the protagonist across space and time. I could see that game being very established in existing lore- feeling very "witcher-y", while also bringing us to places we haven't seen before.

Speaking of Unreal5 vs REDengine, I just hope they manage to keep the fantasy look TW3 has.
It's not super realistic looking, yet it's still graphically a great looking game, and it has a unique visual style which, in my opinion, perfectly captures the fantasy look the Witcher is set in. I hope they also manage to maintain the lighting differences in different regions, like in TW3. I loved how Velen was a dark and gloomy place, but when you went to Novigrad it had a almost completely different tone.

I'd love to see more about the old world of the Witcher personally. Maybe letting us play characters like Erland of Larvik or Arnaghad. Not looking likely for the next saga but even a side game like Thronebreaker would be good for me.
I wonder who exactly would be the next bbeg though? The Wild Hunt is beat. Nilfgaard has either won or lost terribly. The Lodge is basically finished. I doubt a gang like Salamandra of any of the Novigrad gangs like Blind Eyes or Cuttups would be believable...

-A sequel, many years later, so the world has established a new order. Which would probably mean much less old characters and book references as well as a mostly original story
-A prequel of sorts

Starting just before the conjuction. We see how the monsters arrive and the trouble that they cause. Then the start of the Witchers, how the trial of the grasses started, and then following a newly made Witcher on the path. For me this would be perfect.

Can't believe it's finally happening and that you are making this video. The characters in the Witcher 3 genuinely feel like old friends at this point no other video game book tv show or movie made me feel that way about characters it will be SO weird going back to this world without them in the center of it, but like you said the community should wish the developers luck and let's see what we get. Also slight update on my last comment about the Blacksmith in Kaer Trolde, it looks like your interaction with him is alot more bugged than mine, I only need to meditate an hour near him and I can interact with him but it looks like your game is more bugged for some reason (I play the GOG GOTY edition version of the game if that helps) so I hope it works for you and not bug out! He tells about A "Battle axe that speaks" about fights it went through every Saovine and about a sword that Geralt notices is made of Meteorite steel, which he responds with "No, from the heart of a falling star" and how whoever wields it will never lose his way at sea. Also important, the story with the Meteorite steel sword story might not work the first few times so try the dialogue option a few more times it will work eventually.
Also we need a side quest with a character named Letalis in that game, FOR SURE.
That's one of the reasons why I replay this game... Doing stuff with Vesemir, finding Zoltan and Dandelion in Novigrad, chatting with Eskel and Lambert. This is also why I always postpone the Battle of Kaer Morhen and play HoS first - it prevents further interaction with multiple important characters.

I might have to give it a try on my next NG+ once I finish my current (and first) NG+ and my first go at Thronebreaker which I just recently bought. Since they confirmed the animal of the medallion as a lynx, I'd love to play a brand new witcher character, even a totally customizable one. The snow makes me hope to see Kovir and Poviss (can't stop thinking about the brief period of time Dijkstra spent there in the books, they seem beautiful).

I mean if it's cause of story concerns (I mean Skyrim is amazing but the story is well lousy given you can be literally everything, even as a warrior you can be the archmage who knows like 2 spells), could just have a set charcter you make your own similar to mass effect (ie John/Jane), that way you keep the focus on story but the bonus of making your Witcher well yours, especially given it would be a brand new character with no lore unlike geralt.

I hope they remain somewhat faithfull to TW3 with keeping it third person, having loads of cinematics and giving the player the chance to make impactful decisions. I feel like those things really were the things that Cyberpunk was missing, although it might not be fair to compare the two. Cant wait to learn more.

I read this medallion is the head of a lynx, so we will most likely get a new school and the possibility of creating our own witcher. I like this idea. Besides, I agree with Jinzee. She said this school can reside in Dragon Mountains where there is only snow and white dragons. I think we could see Geralt and get a quest from him, but I don't think he will be a bigger part of the game.
I'm sure the next game will be better than Cyberpunk. The CDPR certainly learned from their mistakes. They know people love them for The Witcher, so they have to do everything they can to make the next game perfect.

I wonder why people are so keen on character generation. I've played my share of RPG-style video games, but one thing they all had in common: the more customizable my character was, the less the game world cared about what I had actually created. Not giving a lot of options for character creation gives the design team more room to set up a story path that actually fits the character.
Though I feel like at times a purely story driven game feels disconnected when you make your own character some of the best story games of our time, Witcher, Red Dead, GTA feel amazing because you fall in love with the characters and connect. A good example is Far Cry 5 and how it was hard to connect with your character compared to the others, it just all depends on how you do it, like Elder Scrolls Games do it perfectly.

My theory is that Ciri is going to be in the game in a similar role as Vesemir. Teaching the new witchers and using her blood to create new witchers. I think we will play as a new character that we can design ourselves (gender, looks etc) and choose a backstory which will be integrated in the game.
that's exactly what I thought. xD.... But I think designing your own character wouldn't be that great because it ruins a lot of possible backstories. I rather want one good story instead of 2-3 normal stories. And thinking about the decrease of witchers while still a lot of monsters are there, creating new ones would tell a great story. Especially thinking about the Ciri as emperor ending to bring peace and prosperity to the new empire. There is also a lot of potential for the elves and their return and end of the racism.

I wish they'd simply make a Witcher 3 directors cut with all the cut content. E.g. Catrionaplague questline, Iorveth, some more hierarch stuff, the end fight against the wild hunt in Novigrad, Djikstra and the war having an ending that isn't completely stupid, which the theatre scene most certainly was.
I sadly do not think CDPR will make a W4 that will compare to W3.
Better than that, don’t waste time announcing witcher 4 until all the additions and new maps are added. I’m glad I didn’t waste time going through 3 until Wild hunt came through with all the additions. What a dull laborious drag to have to go through The Whole thing over and over just to see how the patch’s improved everything.
@@tropicthndr we're talking two very different things. You're talking about release practices. DLC's are normal. Games having bugs on release is also an industrywide reality. CDPR really messed that one up with Cyberpunk and it's hardly going to be better. Like you already state we already have a solution for that, and that's simply to buy it later.
I'm talking about the fact that the main questline in W3 wasn't finished properly storywise and that it's a damn shame.
@@jonesjohnson6301 I fully agree, at some parts it felt rushed and incomplete, and I also disliked said theatre scene. It was the same with BaW actually, in the latter half of the game I remember there was, all of the sudden, a huge story arc leap that almost felt like a plot hole. Take your time CDPR, I'll gladly wait 3 years longer for TW4. If I could chose, I would even prefer a new and proper (remade) TW3 over everything else.
CDPR has a lot to live up to. And I hope Geralt and Ciri not being involved won’t leave a sour taste in some peoples mouth.
I'm imagining that this new saga is going to explore the point of view of a brand new Witcher in the Era where Witchers were a very new and popular thing in society after the Conjuction of the Spheres, and a time where witchers were loved and revered by the public for their bravery, as opposed to the original Witcher trilogy where it was mainly focused on the ending of the Witcher Era, with witchers being nearly extinct and hated by society. It would open up so much more potential for everything.
Could also be a new conjunction of spheres bringing forth new monsters causing witchers to need to be made again as a necessary evil

I would love to see ciri or geralt as an easter egg, or maybe a side mission or two (which you only get if you get either empress or witcher ending). It'd be nice to see them being calm, at corvo bianco or somewhere else for example. However i find it more likely there to be an easter egg to them both.

There's a chance that this would be exactly like Cyberpunk where you create your own character with an origin pathway.
If they do go with Ciri's descendant(Which i think is the best idea mainly beacause of the possibilities the Elder Blood opens), he could be a Witcher from a new and/or more modern school wich banned the mutations(because the witchers we know find it cruel). It could even tap into different technology like basic gunpowder weapons.

Well, the best way I think this could go, is that the rest of the witchers band together as more and more monsters emerge and form a new school and you play as one of the children being trained and have the options of making your own character and more details, but I'm too lazy to write.

Whatever they do with this game, I hope it doesn't take place after The Witcher 3, timewise, because I couldn't play a game in which Geralt or any of my favorite characters don't live anymore :( So as long as the story is about something that happened before TW3 I'm happy with that :D
I am baffled at why more don't think of such scenario. In the standalone Gwent game, there has been ton of cards and background exploration of different witcher schools, events from right after the conjunction of the spheres, Alzur's experiments etc. This is the time when people are not yet dominant race on the Continent, the human mages are being taught magic by the elves. The monsters are still aplenty, there are dragons posing threat to growing settlements and witchers are just being formed as profession and they thrive in the dangerous environment. We have to remember that Geralt's times are already when witchers are a dying breed, even Geralt itself is suffering from lack of mission or sense in his life (at least in the books in the begining - later on he has Ciri)
We could also explore some Lara Dorren + Cregenan from Lod politics, or Falca timeline, plenty of other interesting locations, elvish cities at their prime, maybe more of Nilfgaard or Zerrikania just like xLetalis mentioned. I mean, this just too much of space for a new story, although lacking Geralt will be a hit in the stomach.
I would love to see the game take place on the new continent, that was mentioned in the books. I don't remember which one, but it was before the redanian king was killed and where Ciri wandered through the city next to Thaned
I would like that to happen but as a DLC like BAW. For the main story there are so many regions form the main continent to choose from.
I think the Witcher 4 could include a multitude of diffrent playable witchers throghout the game's story representing all schools - Vesemir for school of the wolf, Letho for school of the viper, characters for school of the cat/bear/griffin/manticore. I think it's best to see a fresh take on W4 - brand new main character that gives excellent writers at CD Project their freedoom on making a compelling story BUT still similar to W3 and W2 let's you import a few options based on previous playthroughs including cameos from past game's results.
Totally agree - just give us a totally new protagonist and continue to develop the universe. There's always more stories to tell
Honestly love the idea of making your own character(as a new witcher), with a new story that builds relationships the way Geralt has, and on a grand scale like getting involved with prophecy and complicated relationships (maybe with a cameo from Ciri or her descendant like you said). They could make the character creator really crazy and people can self insert or put their OCs in there. Love the idea of that. Cameos of the existing characters like Geralt would be cool, since witchers live very long lives, but at the same time I would be fine with him being mentioned/looked up to rather than appearing.
I just hope it's another great story with the same love that was put into TW3. I'll wait til 2028 if I have to. I would rather them dump 5 years of development into it rather than for it to come out in the state that 2077 did.
Also if they have a character creator that just leaves more content for modders to make, which is the best thing. Look at games like skyrim and the sims for example; modded characters are INSANE. While modded characters in TW3 are very limited since all the characters are already established.
The only new, main component in the new game that they should focus on mainly is the combat system for me. The plot is already one of the strongest in the video game verse, and the number of side quests(optional) is already a delight to veteran gamers. While I still love the idea of potions, armour, swords, crossbows, the utility is good. However, while actually playing as geralt there is only a doge and hit mechanic that is repeated very much in the game. I say doge and not parry since most of the enemies are monsters. Introducing new fighting mechanics while repeating the same versitality in the map as the witcher 3, with a solid plot like the witcher 3 can guarantee a solid game(assuming the game is finished, no bugs, wink wink). What are your thoughts on what they should change? Also plz tell me what you thought of the combat system.
I personally loved the combat in TW3, in that it's simple to learn but difficult to master (in the sense of completing a no-damage playthrough). However, I do like your suggestion of adding more mechanics to this to allow for more variety in how we may play the game.
For instance, my mind initially jumps to Elden Ring, and its feint mechanic. Not sure how exactly CDPR could implement it, but I think that would make me mix up my tactics against monsters (and even humanoids). Additionally, the backstab mechanic of other FromSoft games would, imo, be interesting here.
I honestly think TW3 combat system is the best and most fun combat system in the history of video games. I hope it stays the same just with more and more unique animations which are even changing depending what kind of sword or weapon you have. Don't even dream about no bugs. You know if you played TW3 at launch. It was....crazy....
I want to see more personalized enemies/flights that Geralt has to truly play witcher. Plus a few new monsters that throws him for a loop. Like wtf is that and how do I beat it.
By more personal I mean, say having to use the right tool for the job. Sure silver sword for monsters , steel for humans. How about adding a silver knife, or a silver coated iron chain like the witcher 1 intro video. Plus having to learn new techniques to beat a certain monster.
You give them too much credit. The plot of previous games being well done does not mean the next game will be on par with it. Especially since it won’t even be about Geralt.

I think the “obscure Witcher moves to Kovir to start the school of the cat” would kind of make sense. You can be one of the first Witchers from a brand-new school or something.
I understand your point about the 3 endings of Ciri, but man, I would love to play with her character. But I think it will probably be a character we make (and I like that idea) but story wise I don't know if it would be so... Immersive. I don't know if it allows us to care so much about the characters as I, personally, did.
Personally I'd like to see a system similar to that of the life paths in Cyberpunk. I'd love to see more info on the manticore school since we were really only teased with them in Blood and Wine.
Remember that the last thing we know about geralt is that he slayed Orianna after the events of blood and wine. Can you imagine the repercutions that the attack of the vampires on Toussaint had over nilfgard? Obviously it'd be another witch hunt, Orianna was exiled and her goods taken by the Duchess, humans working to get rid of the vampires, maybe collaborating with witchers and mages once again, etc. Perhaps there is some room for development here.
It'd be really cool if it followed Ciri as she hops from world to world before Witcher 3, and a main theme of the game is how the majority of worlds have already been taken over by the white frost, seeing different versions of that apocalypse in different world, maybe even how some rare communities have adapted to it and even thrived despite it. I think this would be good in really driving home Ciri's and Avallac'h's certainty that this world will succumb to the same fate that they both seem to have at the end of Witcher 3. Also, it'd be awesome if the (in my opinion) coolest sequence in the Witcher 3 was made into a full game, just hoping between worlds.
Maybe this concept would do better as a show, or maybe even a book honestly, but that is a story I'd definitely like to see in some form.
I'm not expecting to see Ciri, Geralt, Yennefer, Triss, etc but a new cast for the next game. It could be a dive into past history; a forgotten school or an entirely new school being formed decades after Witcher 3 when witchers fall into obscurity (yes, this means Ciri is gone as well) and become a tale.
Or it could even be a Witcher school set up in another world, it doesn't have to be Geralt's world. Perhaps inspired by a visit from Ciri. Or perhaps by someone who had visited Geralt's world and was inspired.

I think Ciri will be there in some capacity either as a Witcher or the Queen, but my theory is that we can be a custom Witcher. I think that would be pretty damn cool honestly

I know this comment is late, but I think Ciri as a main character is much more likely than any descendant of hers. I mean, lore-wise it doesn't seem likely she'd ever reproduce. That was basically what she was escaping for the entirety of the books and TW3, people trying to use her womb for their own gains.
The transition to Unreal engine and the collaboration with Epic is very good for CDPR as they are rather small studio. Proper graphics and smooth video is something they seem not be able to handle by themselves, so a little outside help can't be bad.
The witcher from "When the Cat and Wolf Play" side quest, Gaitan(?), was school of the Cat...

If Ciri is the protagonist CDPR can copy Cyberpunk 2077 life path prologue to branch from the three Ciri endings. During the bad ending Dandelion describes Ciri never to be seen again. He never said they found a body.
I'm 10 when the witcher 3 came out. i tried it for the first time in 2019, I absolutely love it, it's my favourite game of all time, I have 550hours on pc. I'm very hype to really live the launch of the new witcher game. Thank you very much for all of your videos !
I would be interested in playing a sorcerer/sorceress in witcher world - but might be OP. I think one of the real strengths of witcher 1,2,3 was having a really strong central character with so much backstory and I think story-telling in games isn't as good when players can generate their own characters

Personally i do not think i would wabt to play with the magical chosen one that ciri is (which because of reasons that were mentioned in the video and all would be really hard job to pull off properly) neither with Geralt which's story is already fantastically wrapped up. The idea of making your own character sounds most interesting to me since the other option of new specific protagonist honestly scares me. I am truly afraid this may make them either too similar if not the same to Geralt or his extreme complete opposite
Imagine this as the beginning of the game: You find a contract on a notice board, posted by a merchant. You find his shop and you walk in. It turns out to be a mirror shop and the merchant is doing something, say, cleaning a shelf, his back to you, while whistling his theme song. You greet him and the screen goes black and you hear his voice : "Greetings witcher, I've been waiting for you."
I just wish they would follow in the path that Gwent has set. they introduced all these new Witchers from the various schools and you should be able to choose a school and go from there. Plus, all of these introduced characters predated the ones in the current trilogy so it wouldn't affect the main series at all, and they would have a ton of flexibility.
The idea that the main character of the next game is Ciri's child would actually make a lot of sense if you take into account that in the hole Witcher books, the chosen one isn't actually Ciri, but her daughter and that's why people are always trying to use her for reproduction, for example: Vilgefortz with her placental blood, Emhyr that kills Pavetta and disappears just so he could be father to the chosen one and the Lodge that wants to marry her to the Koviri prince (cause in the Witcher royal blood has some unidentified special traits).
Yes I actually agree with this wasn't the sole reason in books that the emperor wanted to marry and commit insest with his daughter because the real prophecy about the child of ciri being all powerful

Man, The Witcher universe is SO big and rich that we might have a dozen of different possibilities for a new main character and/or setting, it just blows my mind. I don't even wanna think of what is better or worse and simply be waiting for what exactly they will incept for a new Witcher game with great interest. I never thought we would get another Witcher game but I couldn't be happier that we are. No matter what The Witcher 4's story is about I know it's gonna be an amazing game. Take all the time you need CDPR don't release it too early.

The medallion for Witcher 4 could still be a wolf medallion. Although the snow around it in the picture is bit a contradictory, it could be a version of a wolf medallion based on the ancient Egyptian god Anubis.
I think it's reasonable to say that the 4th game could potentially be about lambert and kiera after vesemir's death.
They do well to mention how the two will be working together in the future and we don't see any more of either character after that so it wouldn't disrupt thr game's endings.
They also lack any detail on the purpose of their travels so that gives them complete freedom to build a new story without any previous expectations or limitations.
Both of them can be dead in the 3rd game tho
I actually hope that they choose one outcome out of Witcher 3 as the canon one. There are so many different outcomes in that game with huge effects for the Northern Realms and the import safe stuff was cool, but not really that expansive from Witcher 1 and 2 to 3, like e.g. Thaler dying in Witcher 1 but he needs to be there for 3.

Nah, Ciri is waaaaay too OP. Hard to find her challenges she could struggle with with her knowledge, skill, and exceptional powers.

Wouldn't it be awesome, if Ciri turns out to be the first witcher? You know, she'll have to defeat the white frost by laying foundations of witcher schools - the Lynx school. In the game, you'd play as one of Ciri's apprentices, who start their new schools (wolf, bear etc), and if you choose the wolf school, you could get to see and train Vesimir as a child. :)
My biggest concern about the Unreal engine 5 change is that usually the PC versions of Unreal engine games are really bad... Unreal for some reason doesn't compile shaders in a decent way and that causes big stutters... (Final fantasy 7 remake, Ghostwire tokyo, Ghostrunner on launch, etc.) and I know unreal engine 5 looks amazing, but I really wish CDPR can manage to deliver an amazing PC version just as they have done in all their previous games.. I know the witcher 2, 3 and CP2077 are on consoles, but CDPR games come from PC and then to consoles, that is something that not happens a lot currently and I am always happy to see how amazing The witcher 3 has aged on ULTRA settings to this day... and what the heck even the witcher 2... that game looks a generation above when it came out, and the same can be said with TW3... thinking that game launched the same year as fallout 4 is insane... so yeah.. I really hope the change of the engine is for the better, and it will probably will: better recruitment, the don't have to worry on updating and investing money and time on the engine which leads to a better quality of life for the devs, etc. But I am really concerned by how the PC port will be and I want the game to look different from other games with unreal so idk... I hope this change will be for the better.
I have faith the next game will be good, but they need to focus more on the RPG side of things rather than visuals just as they did with cyberpunk, I like cyberpunk, it has amazing characters like judy, Jhonny, Jackie, etc. They are charming but they are not as deep as the characters from the witcher, the presentation is amazing but there are only really like 2 quest with that level of morality that the witcher game had (imo is Judy's quest line and the major being controlled), they have to focus more on how our decisions matter, because in cyberpunk you only do all the side quests and then at the end you get to choose what ending do you want.... and that was really unsatisfying to me, in the witcher 3 it was a series of decisions and with an specific combination of those decisions you get different endings, that feels more like a journey to me rather than a buffet of what do I want, were that should not be the case in such a dark setting. But yeah I really wish luck to all the devs, they are really passionate and I want CDPR to come back and do what they are good at 💛❤
The problems on those game is not the engine, it's just that they are badly optimized, Square Enix pc port are know to be bad, and most japanese developpers don't optimize pc games very well. There are so many UE 4 games that do not have those problem
I like Geralt. And would be thrilled to have another game with him as a main character. However, I would really like to see a witcher game where we could start as a blank character. Maybe get to choose what school we were taken to, (possible pros and cons of each school). We finish the training and make a name for ourselves.
I always thought about Zerrikania as a possible location for a Witcher 4 game. But the Snow in the wallpaper seems to suggest something else. The Amulett in the wallpaper looks a little bit like a dog to me (Dobermann?) ! The only hint is: "A NEW Saga begins". So will there be a new witcher school? Will new witchers will be made? Or will "normal" humans being witchers?
They have much more developers working at CDR so it should be quicker than 4 years like W3
One problem I see is the games becoming too mainstream. What I love about the Witcher Universe is its roots in slavic folklore and culture. CDPR has however moved away from its eastern european background and became more and more western. Many polish guys left the studio and many new, younger ones came in. I think that this can lead to CDPR becoming like every other big game company, whose games are almost always generic, uninspired and without meaning. The start of this development you can already see in Cyberpunk, where the original, deeply philosophical critique of capitalism became a boring "meh, mega-corps bad". I hope that The Witcher 4 is going to have an actual meaning and purpose like its predecessor.

I'd be more interested in playing a blank slate character. Geralt is definitely an interesting character and I loved playing Assassins of Kings and The Wild Hunt, but sometimes you feel wrong having Geralt make choices you know don't fit his character. Same can be said of playing Ciri, Lambert, Eskel, or young Vesimir, maybe to a lesser degree but still.
Definitely agree on not wanting to canonize any of the endings over others.

Honestly, I m thankful for whatever they will bring up. I personally would love if they keep some of the Witcher 3 characters (it would really touch the heart, nostalgia really works on people :)), but maybe explore other lands such as Kaedwen or Zerrikania.

Personally I would like a story based around Ciri as a Witcher if the game is going to have Ciri as the main protagonist. If that ends up being the case I think they would have her lose her special powers somehow vs the main antagonist and she would train with Geralt to master her Witcher skills and maybe Yennefer could teach her some things. Something like that could be cool obviously the story needs to be more interesting than that though, those are just some things I would like to see. I'm sure CDPR will come up with a great story no matter who the main protagonist is.

I wanna replay this game again for the first time...
for the simple fact that i dont see CDPR making any of the three W3 endings cannon i dont think Ciri will be the main character, maybe playable in parts but i think she will be used as a building piece, maybe like a mentor. If anything im wondering if they will implement a CAC kind of like Cyberpunk and that character moves up in reputation. It would be nice to start off and have to go through the trials as a kid and start as an unknown Witcher and build your reputation and Status. Everyone knew who Gearalt was, they knew what kind of person he was, would be nice to make those decision on who you are as a player, maybe your character does things that makes him become known as a ruthless monster slayer who is willing to sacrifice anything and anyone to get the kill, maybe he is Person who tries to cure the issues before leading to execution. and most importantly by allowing a CAC he could be a She, maybe there are two beginnings, girls are trained by Ciri since they cant go through the trials, while men are trained by Lambert or someone else. Maybe even better you create your own school, with its own traditions. also further evidence that they will most likely do a CAC who makes their own school or picks a school is that they only show a medallion, and it has features that could fit multiple schools, Cat, Lynx as mentioned, Wolf, and the bottom is buried in snow, so it could also have a bottom jaw and be a medallion of something roaring. but they show no form of the Character you play as. which at this point they would want to build some intrigue as to who it is by maybe even showing a hooded witcher with certain markings. its also possible the writers and directors still dont know who the character is, usually they build a world before worrying about specifics of the characters.
Ill be honest, I would also like a saga that goes back in time, Play as Letho or someone from the same school as him, get into the darker side of the world.
Since the lynx has pointed ears could it mean this is potentially an elf witcher school in Aen Elle or Aen Seidhe

I think if they were to allow you to play as Witcher Ciri, it would possibly be unlocked by getting that ending in the previous game and have other game ending effect characters through the story.
I think if they actually make a siri protagonist sequel they would put her in another world either when she's empress or a witcher or she doesn't actually die but she's lost in the snow world and she's trying to get back to her world. Maybe if they want a sequel that's how they can tie the endings but idk..
The thing with redengine is that only a handful of people know it. When you join CD Projekt Red you need to learn it from the basics and they can't lose any workers. Unreal Engine 5 I think is step up . They can ask epic to help them with. Epic has a lot of specialists on it so they can help CD projekt Red develop their game with less bugs and better optimization with keeping better graphics and visual effects.
I think it's worth separating the witcher plotline from that of the Elder Blood because the elder blood was essentialy a unique moment in history, or rather several, but still few and far between. There is much more lore with regards to witchers, as opposed to all powerful elfs, and there's room the expand on the magic side of things - for instance the bad blood between witchers and sorceres. They created monsters after all, and they created monster slayers. Also there's so much map!
Or, and I think that's reasonable, the first human-elfs wars. Shaerrawedd and such. I can easily imagine a choice between helping them or the kings.
The one scenario I would LOVE to see though - a new protagonist in the peak of Witcher trade. 150 years prior to the saga for instance, when you had several schools, all with their distinct colture and vibe, when the land knew witchers because they weren't 'the last of their kind'. The map would've been different, there would be other agenda's in play. The Chapter and Council would be in the hight of their power and we might get to meet NPC's like young Tissaia De Veris and the ladies who built Aretuza. I'd love to feel the witcher world for what it was before Nilfgard, before witcher became unicorns, before the old order crumbled entirely.
Yeah as nice as it would be to have Ciri be in the next Witcher project. It would cancel out Witcher 3 endings and the significance of them. So totally makes sense for her not to be involved.
Hopefully, we'll get a new saga that will be just as inviting and rewarding to play as the tale with Geralt was.
Any partnership is welcome to mitigate the abundance of glitches and bugs. I still can't get the Wolf Armor for Geralt, ya know, the White Wolf!
I'm really not worried about the future protagonist.
I was introduced to the Witcher way too late, actually right after finishing Rdr2.
So anyone who came from the Red Dead fandom knows the fan outrage that happened when Rockstar announced that the second game is actually a prequel, that will only feature John (protagonist of rdr1) as a supporting character and not the main one. Oh the hate that people threw at Rockstar games for that.
And then Rdr2 came out and we met Arthur. John who????
The game left people speechless and in love with Arthur as the new main protagonist.
So I'm not worried. As much as I love Geralt, I'm not worried about the new character that CDPR will come up with. Complete trust on that front.

So idea out of left field what if they take geralts and trisses/yenifers (depending on what your choices were if you import) kid giving us the use of a potential witcher mage main character and it starts out around the last trial. so we get to build the character as we see fit from the beginning
