Our dog gets very hot at night and spends much of the night laying in different areas which are cool. We bought a cool-mat for her but though she will lay on it when told, she immediately gets up and moves away. We have a wooden floor so its not as hot as carpet , also the windows are open so there is lots of cool air but she gets very uncomfortable. Fern is a border collie with a very thick coat. Any suggestions please?
I wish you would highlight the need to keep dogs off pavements and roads in very hot sunny weather. Dog owners seem to be oblivious of extremely hot surfaces when the tar melts and it is hot enough to burn paws!
what can you do when your dog needs to toilet during the day? it's not a problem in the cooler times - I do that e.g 4:30am in the morning and last thing at night. but my dog can't last over 12 hours so what do you do? my dog only goes outside and in a place away from the house as she wants "inspiration". I would never walk her on hot surfaces - I'll put her in a buggy and take her to the cool shade under a willow tree two minutes walk away. is that reasonable? everyone is vilified who goes outside, when to them there is no alternative.

People who take their dogs out in hot weather are bloody idiots and selfish
