    I know I'm late on this video, But I have a suggestion . I run RCs and decided to build a boat around a weed eater motor and was amazed at the complexity's of boats. If you can find a RC Boat mag check it out. About your turning having the rudder raked back a little will help and also you might try turn fins they kind of act like turning brakes on a dune buggy or tractor and sit high at a angle so the inside one only cuts the water also chines on the hull will stop water creeping up and equal speed( their just little strips use 90 degree angle piece point up)

  • @BruceLyeg
    @BruceLyeg 3 роки тому +2

    That looked like you were flying! It also looked like a ton of fun. A fixed rudder might help prevent it from sliding when you're turning

      Yeah like on a surf board or a RC speed boat
      2 angled on the side should give some stability in the turn

    Very good, but you have to put the cylinder cover on it, otherwise the engine can be damaged cause it doesnt get cooled.

    Should try doing a bark box exhaust and a tunable carby, will give the saw some more power and less bogging

    • @DktheWelder

    Could you not rig the chainsaw motor to the jet drive? I'd think the high rpm's ot has it would surely help the jet.
    I'm building a jet surfboard right now, and i'd start into a moped motor fitted out to make about 10-12hp. But i have a chainsaw engine at home, if that could work, that'd be great! Subscribed!

    • @DktheWelder
      @DktheWelder  3 роки тому

      Yeah I was going to try that but it spins the wrong way. I could correct this with chains and sprocket but I think the jet unit is not efficient enough to make the most of the power . I will try figure out a better impeller in the future but doubt it will go as well as a propeller. I think 10-12hp would work on a jet board the chainsaw motor wouldn’t be powerful enough unless it is huge

    For turning performance you need turning knives. Hydro boats use them too.

    • @DktheWelder

      Like swords on a flat bottomed sailing boat. Put them on the front of your drive pontoon, then there is sufficient distance between the steering rig and the pivot point in the water.
      On sailing boats their fitted half way the hull. On hydro boats their fitted on the back end of the forward floats. Only single sided becourse they only preform left hand turns.

    • @DktheWelder
      @DktheWelder  3 роки тому

      @@DktheWelder
      Not yet, i check it out.
      You ment your surface drive? If it goes quick you will run into the same problem. The hull is planing so there is no turning performance. Maybe for the better becourse your hull is so narrow.
      I think with turning knives at hard turning at speed the hull will enter a high speed roll becourse it is that narrow and your body is sitting very high. Be carefull water at speed is like concrete.

  • @TrevorDennis100
    @TrevorDennis100 3 роки тому

    Blimey Daniel, she goes a bit now, and I bet it feels even faster when you are on board. So is the next project making some water skis so you can drag your daughter behind the boat? Do you have any ideas about why the boat does not turn well? Could you weld some shallow chine strips to the hull to grip the water in turns? It's certainly coming along. To be honest, I didn't think you'd be seeing speeds like this when we saw the early videos of this project.

    • @DktheWelder
      @DktheWelder  3 роки тому

      The surface drive is great the fastest thing on the water maybe need hydrofoils as well haha. I think it spins out because it is only really half the prop in the water and nothing keeping it straight. Chines would help or a small rudder or I can just slow down for turns

    Good effort!! Thats cool, my only concern is the the revs not being quite upto its peak/happy 10000rpm, and not having the top cover has a massive effect on cooling, under revs ups load and heat, no cover reduces ducting. Would hate to see ya kill it this far in. 🤙👍🇬🇧👍

      It is a surface drive so if it got lifted by hydrofoils it wouldn’t drive, but I have a catamaran with a longtail motor that would always reach the water so that could be perfect so I will build on when I have time
