Yes, Misa did get Gelus' (Pronounced like Jealous) remaining life span (Halved for the eyes.) We also know that the shinigami rarely "work" aside from enough to keep themselves alive, as they don't really get any benefit from it aside from extra time. It is not confirmed at this point (or ever to my knowledge) how much time Gelus had, although we know that he at least took whatever time that the killer had left. The transfer of life with the shinigami has some interesting mechanics. The eye deal takes half the human's life so that if the shinigami would die before the human they are following, they have a way to get enough life to outlive them. The way shinigami die guarantees that the object of their love will survive, as they are extending their life, so without that added lifespan, what would happen when their time ran out?
The killer had pretty much no time left since he said he was planning on killing himself after killing Misa, so that part didn't add any time to Gelus' (and then Misa's) lifespan
That isn't 100% true.. many claim its a mistranslation. The english dub says that Gelous lengthened Misa's life beyond its normal means.. since she was supposed to die at 22 (shes like, 2 years older than light) she now has a normal lifespan. The max age for a human woman is like 82, so it could just mean he gave her those extra 60 years which the universe never accounted for, which is why Gelus had to die... so doing the eye deal with Rem means she would live to be 52 instead of 82... The other alternative is that Gelous gave Misa hundreds of years.. cut in half, she would still probably be the oldest living human ever.
Even if the "she got Gelus's remaining years" interpretation is true, I think it's just as likely that Gelus only had maybe 50 or 100 years to give. Based on how Ryuk described the Shinigami, I imagine most of them go decades between killings, keeping their life spans in the double or low triple digits, only killing someone when they get really low.
@@mattgarrett2583 Misa was supposed to die at 19. She is only 14 months older than Light. In the manga she was born Dec 25, 1984 and Light was born on Feb 28, 1986. She was attacked by the stalker on Mar 12, 2004, making her 19 years old at the time. And Light had just turned 18 about two weeks prior. For the anime they just adjusted all the dates forward three years. That might be why you think she was 22 during the attack; in the anime the attack happens in 2007. But you also have to adjust Misa's birth date, moving it forward to 1987. So she's still 19 at this point in the story.
If Gelus had say 500 years after he died, his 500 is transferred because he saved Misa out of love at the time of her predestined moment to die. Misa then halved it to get the eyes, then she’d get 250 years extra to live.
@@bernardmartins1093 yes, it does work like that. Gelus didn't have a lot of spare lfie tho, but if he did, then Misa COULD have lived for very very long.
I may be misremembering but wasnt it mentioned at some point that Shinigami are lazy and procrastinate on getting more years? Maybe in the manga? Even if Im misremembering, I could see a Shinigami seeing no point in having a 500 year buffer. Kill a guy and take 40 years and you can go back to doing nothing for decades.
My theory is that if you don't go to heaven or hell after using the Death note, you actually become a Shinigami and the way to be released from it is to love and sacrifice yourself for it. After multiple re-watches and that Shinigami so interested in Ryuk, i can only come to this conclusion.

@@CrazeeAdam Goth lolita looks innocent? For me she looks like satanist. If the cats and children were to disappear somewhere, the first suspicions would fall on her. That's why I argue that the argument for her innocence is being a woman... a girl if that changes anything.

How are you suppose to believe that two random kira's show up in the world and don't know about each other. Obviously someone else gave them that power. But maybe since there is no information on the third party, it's irrelevant to solve the case.
Theory time! Shinigamis are people that have used the death note and are stuck in Limbo. If they manage to save a life they pass the test and go to Heaven.
I disagree. One of the title-rules is that "All humans when they die go to nothingness." I think the punishment for using the death note is having to experience dying how every victim you killed died, over and over until all victims are accounted for, and then get sent into oblivion.
Can someone help me understand something , maybe I missed it L producing a message from the "real" kira to respond Misa..but it broadcasted all over Japan so in their perspective there is a real kira out there so why didn't he interfere when L's kira sent a message pretending to be him
It’s funny that you guys what to know what would happen if the deathnote fell into the hands of a kind person… because they basically explored that in the recent deathnote one off

Could you watch Vinland saga next? Season 2 is coming up later this year and season 1 is an outright masterpiece. The music, scenery, fights, characters, concept and philosophy of this anime are absolutely magnificent. + its only 24 episodes.
"season 1 is an outright masterpiece." Very overrated. The main character static throughout the show, while some characters like the prince guy go 180 out of nowhere. And that's just one of the problems.
@@Wlof25 the main characters stay static because he was stuck in the same place mentally until the very end of season 1. now he will have to grow as a person. The prince did a 180 because his surrogate father was killed. It makes perfect sense, if you actually think about it. people dont just consistently grow as people at the same rate, like a cactus or something.
@@MattMajcan And that is exactly the problem. The character needs to grow for 20 episodes and not be the same. Take Guts from Berserk. In those 25 episodes we see the character develop and we see that the world and people affect his development and that also wasn't sudden, while in this pile of overrated garbage nothing during the show affects him. He even had like two inner monologues with his dead father and that didn't change him. He saw that his action brought slaughter to the village and that he broke the heart of the woman who protected him and took care of him and nothing changed. He witnessed another slaughter of villagers and that also didn't affect him, etc and etc. Nothing affects him because he is a terrible one dimensional character. "It makes perfect sense, if you actually think about it." No....it doesn't. People don't get deeper voice or change personality like that. People don't get from being scared and timid to being all confident, composed, etc. If we saw the gradual change or if he became overly emotional or if he became even closed off....that would make sense. Growing balls and spine and going through puberty all of the sudden is just bad writing.
Many people miss the point made in this episode. Gelus died out of love, he saved Misa Misa. Whatever remaining life Gelus had was transferred to Misa. Shinigami are basically immortal. If Misa is 25, and Gelus was only a thousand years old, he has been taking life and extending his own for nearly a thousand years. If Gelus killed only one person each month during his life, Misa now has a lifespan in excess of five thousand years. Easily. Her lifespan is far beyond anything any human could hope to achieve. Shinigami eyes for half? Misa could make that deal several times and still live longer than any human.
Gelus' (Jealous) lifespan is unknown so we can only speculate about that. What we know for sure is that a shinigami's lifespan surpasses that of a normal human being. The more human names are written in their note books the more shinigamis increase their life expectancies. It could be a 1000 years for all we know in case of Gelus. So Misa has enough lifespan to surpass everybody in their lifetimes.
But most of them are pretty lazy and basically only ever need to write a name every couple of decades. He would probably have like... a human lifespan worth of years at most
@@androkguz we don't have the exact data about Gelus whether he was a lazy shinigami or an active one but from what we know passed episode 26 about Misa which we are not gonna spoil here. Let's suppose he had more than a 100 years for Misa to have.

I always thought the wording of the English dub explaining how Shinigami die was confusing. In the English dub Rem makes it sound like falling in love is the trigger and that's it. This has always caused confusion when I watch this episode with someone who's seeing the series for the first time. This is how I explain it. Falling in love is not the trigger. A Shinigami using their death note with the intention to save a human life rather than just kill someone is the trigger. But in order to do that obviously the Shinigami would have to deeply care about the human to save them. In a sense love kills them but in all actuality saving a human life is what really kills them.
A genuinely good/kind person probably wouldn't use the note after they confirmed that it worked. They might even hand it over to the police and/or turn themselves in for murder. Alternatively... There's an interesting theory out there that Light's very rapid descent into megalomaniac godhood is a coping mechanism for realizing what he did: He is, essentially, the perfect paragon of Japanese virtues. He's studious, abides by the law, honours his parents, athletic, etc. All the good virtues. And then he kills someone. An act he knows is wrong. So his psyche, in which he perceives himself as perfect, literally cannot cope. It breaks completely in a twisted attempt at reconciling his "perfect student" persona with the reality that he's killed not one, but two people. He had to, *desperately* had to, justify those murders in his own mind. He had to align them with the idea of the paragon of virtue he by all means was at that point, and thus, Kira was born. He doesn't have a tragic backstory justifying his behaviour, because the traumatizing incident that made him a zealot is *literally realizing the notebook is real and that he's killed two people.*
The life span issue is up for debate.. it could be he gave Misa like, 500 years of life (Misa is 22, Light is 20) so she dies at age 522.. having given up half of those 500 years, she lives to be 272 lets say... The realistic way to look at it is that she was supposed to die at 22, but Gelus extended her life by killing the badguy, extending her life to that of a natural human woman (80). And those extra 60 years the universe never planned on, so Gelus had to die as a result.. but the "extra" lifespan probably doesn't mean hundreds and hundreds of years... however, if it does, that's good for misa since she did the eye deal
@@Daesma999 I can't say you're right because spoilers, and I can't say you're wrong because spoilers.. but we both know if you're right or wrong here, and if I did or didn't make a mistake because of reasons.
Misa obtained an unknown number of years from Gelus but it's one of the things introduced in the story that the writer never does anything with so it's one of the few flaws in the writing. We don't know how many years she got so they could have left that out and it wouldn't change anything. I wished they also gave more context as to why Gelus fell in love with her, it felt like he was a creep like the guy following her and now Rem just decided to follow her as well with no reason given why they find her interesting and the writer never develops her to show that either.
Think of it this way. If a kind person came upon the Death Note they wouldn't use it. Someone who's not capable of killing people wouldn't just try it to see if people die. They wouldn't take the risk it would work. Only people who are willing to kill people woukd use it so the Dalli Lamas of the world wouldn't take part. Now once you start using it you've crossed a line. Not unlike a police officer who steals from a drug dealer. Once you've crossed that line you've made a self justification for breaking the law and its onky a matter of time before you set a new line to be crossed, and then another,... its not magic.

@@colinhamilton3033 That is a concept that I thought I was conveying, although on a reread it is quite possible to miss that in my comment.

Shinigamis are people that have used the death note and are stuck in Limbo. If they manage to save a life they pass the test and go to Heaven.
I disagree. One of the title-rules is that "All humans when they die go to nothingness." I think the punishment for using the death note is having to experience dying how every victim you killed died, over and over until all victims are accounted for, and then get sent into oblivion.
one thing I didn't think about the first time i watched this show is that Shinigami are basically just vampires with books instead of fangs

"season 1 is an outright masterpiece."
Very overrated. The main character static throughout the show, while some characters like the prince guy go 180 out of nowhere. And that's just one of the problems.
Yes! The girls would "my boy" Thorfinn, for sure!
"It makes perfect sense, if you actually think about it."

I gotta say, i much perfer misa's voice in the the dub over the sub
her voice, sound like a child and not the voice of a woman of 18, because if she is a model, she is at least 18.

In a sense love kills them but in all actuality saving a human life is what really kills them.
this is my favorite episode of the whole deathnote series because of gelus
A genuinely good/kind person probably wouldn't use the note after they confirmed that it worked. They might even hand it over to the police and/or turn themselves in for murder. Alternatively...
There's an interesting theory out there that Light's very rapid descent into megalomaniac godhood is a coping mechanism for realizing what he did:
He is, essentially, the perfect paragon of Japanese virtues.
And those extra 60 years the universe never planned on, so Gelus had to die as a result.. but the "extra" lifespan probably doesn't mean hundreds and hundreds of years... however, if it does, that's good for misa since she did the eye deal
...isn't Light 17 here?
@@Daesma999 I can't say you're right because spoilers, and I can't say you're wrong because spoilers.. but we both know if you're right or wrong here, and if I did or didn't make a mistake because of reasons.

edit: ...I see
the writers introduced the idea that she gained years but really didn't do anything with it at all, so it feels weird and out of place
Why they translate shinigami as Death god or reaper
shinigami means god of death
