this movie was released the day i was born! i watched it before i actually turned 13 and strived my life to be like this. thankfully, there weren’t any people like evie in my school, so my life didn’t turned out that way.

Thirteen had a huge impact on my childhood and teenage experience, and it was fascinating growing up with that movie and learning and living its life lessons, and getting to watch these beautiful and talented actresses grow up to become such inspiring women. When it came in the mail she saw it said R and hid it from me, but I stole it from her hiding spot 😆 Well, this movie taught me to stand up for myself. I stopped just taking the abuse from my step dad, and instead started doing something about it. The scene where Evan is SCREAMING at Holly, I was like wait... I can do this. I don't have to just sit here and take it. It also influenced me to make some really poor choices regarding drugs, but hey, it happens, and that was my own choice. Still one of my favorites today!
How did I miss this???? I'm so glad they reconnected and are actual friends. Though I must admit, I'm only here for Evan 🤩 Nikki is a welcoming surprise. I'm still pissed that they were robbed of a Golden globe for their performances.

You were both seriously my favorite actresses my entire teen years and it's like watching 2 of my idols be friends and talk and it's so freakin awesome and sweet! People don't realize the pressure men are raised with is what tends to make them abusive toward women, and uncaring toward people around them. One day I'll write an essay on it 😅
My friend and both our moms watched 13 together. I was like 12? We discussed it after it finished. The movie was great but there are new teen struggles that aren't in it because they didn't exist. It would definitely need an update.
The only update it would need would be social media I feel like Tracy would see evie on Instagram recognize her and text her and they would start talking or something also they would prob use vapes instead of cigs idk

We were young, and ALL in abusive households, and for me (this will sound weird, but I've always been VERY self aware of why I do the things I do, but it doesn't always help me stop doing them lol) it was the scene at the end where Holly is just holding Evan. I just wanted my mom to hold me and say she loved me. But ya know what she did when she found out I was cutting? She handed me a knife , told me to kill myself, and left. I stopped doing it soon after because I realized it wasn't going to have the effect I wanted. My mother was nothing like that character, and this was just a movie, and there was no point in doing it. So, this movie honestly had a really big effect on my life. A lot of really bad things, and a lot of really good things. It really taught me to stand up against my abusers. I was just like WAIT, I CAN SCREAM AT THEM TOO OMG! Eventually I got my step dad to stop hitting me by finally fighting back! So, good and bad. Thank you lovely ladies for such a candid discussion on this film. Love you both so so so much. Always have, always will!

As someone that also watched this film very young and with some issues around, I can relate to the impact it had on your life. I am glad that we were able to direct it into a place of healing and growing, and I am sorry that like me, you had to be your own savior and guide. I am proud of you

Love seeing them! They are both inspiring in their respective ways. Evan Rachel Wood keeping the wardrobe issmart; she can probably pass that down to her kid(s) and they can make a decent penny off of it, or just to keep it. I am glad most kids haven't seen Thirteen at 13! LOL I am not sure when I would allow my child to see that......unless they see it at a friends house. I saw it at 15 and I was one of the most "troubled" youths I knew...I actually went through a much more "wild" and intense experience than is in the film. I still think for a teen w/o proper guidance the movie is more of a beckoning to delve further into that world. I felt a need to conquer such things...especially since I HAD already been through some of that betrayal and etc. I did NOT see Tracy as being really outspoken until she joined up with Nikki's character. I related because it was a lot of "Ok mom..." just being pushed to the back-burner and trying not to make a fuss but then once inspired to be bold as a partner in crime Tracy starts to then become outspoken. But it's perhaps not even HERself coming out as much as her id. As an adult I understand more about how that happens and why...and most of my friends that were able to avoid that lifestyle had very involved parents. Not controlling, but they guided them in a wholesome way that led them to make more intelligent decisions. Some tested higher on "paper" but most did not, I actually Did test very high amongst my friend's group but I was "book" smart not street smart. My mom did what Holly's character did in the sense of totally stepping back and trying to "give me space" but in the movie I feel it was for a more loving reason and just not knowing how to handle it.
