I have a Korg Krome and I really love the realistic piano sounds and all of its capabilities. The only thing that sucks about it is the less durability on the road if you’re touring. You really need to invest in a better keyboard case because of the SD card. If that gets knocked out of place or if you need to get a brand new card you’re looking at 200 dollars just to fix the problem unless you do it yourself.

Well, I had a Roland FA07, and now I have a Yamaha MODX since 3 month. No comparison : Yamaha sounds much better, and his touchscreen make it so easier to use !
I've had my eyes set on the MODX for a while now, but I just wanted to expose myself to other keyboards similar to it to see if there was a better option for me. I think I'm still going to stick with the MODX. The FM synth engine is one of the big selling points for me.

I really like the Korg Kromes sequencer. It reminds me of the piano roll editing of Cubase. The sounds are ok, nothing special. Overall I like the krome. Yamaha sounds the best , but has lacked in the sequencer department since the ES. I loved the Motif Es sequencer. Roland is ok to, but the sequencer is not as good as Korg krome.
Just in the first set of comparisons, you can hear the pad in the FA and Krome dropping notes. I'm no fan of Yamaha, but I have to say the MODX wins here.
Even though I'm a Roland user, but for this comparison I'd say the ModX wins here in most of categories except for organ sound that Korg is oviously the best for decades. Anyway, nice comparison and your playing performance is awesome.
I like that he compares the contenders in the mid-range keyboard. However, it wasn’t fair for the Krome EX since its just the 61 key semi-weighted vs the others with 88 key hammer action, and the other 2 has sustain/damper pedals while there was none on the Korg Krome EX
The Roland Fa08 gives you knobs that lets you control the volume of your layers but the Roland Juno you can only use to sliders for layering but they both have the same sounds
Agreed. The Krome sounds just cheap. The FA, however, is still a serious competitor. It sounds good, but the MODX sounds more ‘elegant’ or HiFi-like, probably due to its high frequencies. If it only had aftertouch!
That's my exact order. The MODX is by far the most expressive (people laughed at the Super knob when Montage was released in they aren't laughing now). And Roland FA is still one of my favorite keyboards. Never liked Krome, but Kronos is excellent.
Yeah but it's unfair if it comes to competition, He should have try the kronos intead, Now, it's all about the personal preference. did you hear the brasses oh the korg versus the Yamaha?
Thanks for the comparison. They all sounds good in their own way but one thing that bugs me after all these years is why Korg still hasn't figured out how to do acoustic pianos. From Triton to now, all their APs sound so sterile and digital.
@@redmusichouse Totally agree Korg just don't do good pianos I worked in a dealership where we had a lot of different makes so got to try them all and as awesome a synth the Kronos is (it can't be that bad I have one) I still go to my Nord for piano
Nicee video... It's so soft and pleasant to the ear, and the synths and possibilities are great. I have a Kronos 2 but on the strings, Winds and many others I have noticed that the MDOXs are better.
Any time I see a comparison I wonder if they have bothered to fully edit the presets. By the way, some dont realize the FA has a full blown VA engine (along with the S+S etc) inside.
Likely not! And I always wonder about the audio connections too. May be my playing or my personal tweaking but my FA sounded better than his lol. And I've owned an Electro 6D (sold it) and now Yamaha YC73. Thinking about getting another FA.
A little discriminating using a light weight Korg versus weighted in the Yamaha and Roland, we all Know the feeling is different. But they all sound amazing.
Luca Longoni I know and understand, my comments are most directed to people comparing them as quality of sound by what we can percibe depending on devices. It’s all about personal taste. To me, Yamaha has the warm feeling, for those who love warm, Korg is more bold, and natural kind of analog, and Roland has a presence! Bright clear and well defined high sounds, ideal for Pop, And Rock, now, the real truth is... I love the three of them!
That reasoning is exactly why I sold my Electro 6D. To me, all the elements that make Nord pianos so special wash out in the settings I play in. Usually a drummer, bass, another keyboard player, guitar, etc. I Have a YC73 now. Thinking about returning it for a FA07. I used to have the 06 and I miss it dearly. The APs, EPs, strings, synth (of course) and even the organs were fine for me. Granted all were tweaked to my liking and stored on the board. And the overall features are bananas. Lot of menu diving but that it's feature packed. I missed the layering/split capabilites for sure. In the end....Yamaha outdid themselves with the original motif line. The MODX and Montage don't compare. Hence why most of the guys I see with either of those boards are still dragging around laptops and running soft synths
That’s exactly why it’s better for a pianist playing solo or just practicing at home. It’s absolutely the closest to an acoustic piano by default. The others (as are many except for Kurzweil & Kawai) are all focused on the too-treble end to cut through a band. That’s why they sound much poorer in solo presentation.
Great comparison and playing of course. I've got the Roland FA-08, which I love except for million mile an hour synth work. So I have put the Yamaha MODX6, Korg Krome 61 and cheapest of all, Roland Juno DS-61 on my shortlist. I didn't like the synth action of the Korg Krome 61 but that may have been a busted up store demo version. I like the feel, sounds and price of the Juno DS-61 but am edging (saving up) towards the MODX6 or even MODX7, what do you say UA-cam people....wait until 2019, is there really a Krome 2 on the way next year?
that's crazy just looked around and i have these 3 keyboards, even though i think the krome is the weakest out of them, I'm going to dump it for a portable organ

If 25 keyboards are sold among these three models. 12 are Yamaha, 11 are Korg and 3 are Roland.
There different scales, and brands, for different purposes. The three giants on this industry. You can try any other combination from these brands. Beyond that, what I'm totally sure is that the display is instrumental on a quicker change of sounds & settings, and that weighted keys return the true feeling of playing a piano.
Why use a 61 key Korg where you can't get as much bottoms as the other two bigger boards. Also, sounds like you're not using a sustain pedal with the Korg. Just my two cents.
0:35 What default piano do Roland use? It always sounds so much closer than the Yamaha. Don't get me wrong, Yamaha has very good pianos (CFX and whatnot) but I just prefer the "closeness" of the piano.

I m not Shure about différences : the sound Can be changed on fa08 if you add some high fréquences in the equalizer ,and kill some middle Just a question of equalization.
Definitely prefer Roland. I have the semi-weighted FA-07. Unless your a dedicated (classical) pianist, I wouldn’t bother with the 88 key FA-08. So much heavier too. I’ve a Kurzweil stage piano to satisfy my classical urges. So much better than either the Roland or Yammy for that purpose!
The Roland FA-08 lacks presence and punch. I should know...I own one! got it NEW for under a $1000. I'm still learning my way around it, but the owner's manual is really awful. The Yamaha sounds really full, and articulate! The Korg sounds good, but a bit bright for my taste. I also have a KORG M-50 that I hoped tp replace with the FA-08, as the KORG weight 20lbs more, but I played it yesterday, and I was stunned by how rich it sounded - especially Strings! I'll give the Roland some more time, and hopefully - it will prove to be worthy!
That's a MODX8? How do the Yamaha fully weighted keys compare to synth action keys? I'm learning on a Roland FP-30 digital piano. I want to get a synth but I feel like fully weighted keys would be too slow for a synth?
I own a modx8, and I must say that I am pleasantly surprised and thoroughly impressed with the keybed of the modx8, especially for the price. it truly feels high quality and is a lot faster than what one may expect for a fully weighted keybed. if you want to upgrade, I highly recommend the MODX8.
I'm not an expert i'm a guitarist that had a SY 99 I believe that Yamaha piano is king so correct me if I'm wrong. The Korg seems to have more bright clipped sound But I'm curious which one do people absolutely have to have LOL and where is the best place for me to learn how to play better? I'm still a little basic on my keyboard guitar it's been about 44 years Thanks
Great video and great performing. I have both the MODX and the Korg Krome and I prefer the Krome. I know you can store your sounds in the MODX"s user banks for quick switching but I noticed that you change sounds very quickly in the Krome. Could you please tell us how? Thanks
What are the differences between their keybeds? I'm in the process of buying a new 88 keyboard and i need a good, durable, reliable keybed, among other things. Btw, I only know how juno ds88 feels, is the fa08 with the exact same keybed as ds88?
I like the MODX, sounds deep, I'm slightly opinionated because I'm deaf in on ear and mono seems easier to handle on the Yamaha than my Korg, would like to know what you think about the 3 different mfr's and their customer service/support, forums, tutorials, etc.
Despite of yr consideration i’m impressed by the emulation of fm piano on roland, can you tell us what performance or user patch is at minute 03:02? Whitney houston song. Thks and congrat. For yr demo
Instead of buying multiple boards, just get a Kronos and you won't need anything else. But out of budget, I got an fao8 *open box to save money* because the keys feel the nicest, and the onboard sounds and sequencers work in a pinch, and the Integra content via axiom is pretty good. But if I need anything more specific, I'd just plug it into a daw. Even if you don't like the sounds that much, it still makes for an amazing midi controller.
I need multiple keyboards because I use them in different context (Fa08 at home, modx and krome for gigs) 👍 I also like Kronos very much (except for acoustic piano)
@@lucalongoni4766 good point. It is much easier to have multiple boards in many applications. They're all fantastic boards tbh. I think Roland make some of the nicest feeling keys. I'll say the only gripe I have with the Kronos is the steep learning curve. It'll probably take me a year to start using the Kronos somewhat effectively.
Known fact. Yamaha will always win on the acoustic instruments, Roland will always win on the synths, but the Korg Kronos is a full blown sampler and can hold it's on with both. I know this is a Korg Krome, but I have a Kronos, Motif xs, and Roland fa 07. Comparisons are also hard when eq and effects are different. The Roland is the easiest to sequence and program and is more Daw friendly.
Looking for a new keyboard but it's so hard to know what to buy. The Roland sounds are pleasing to my ear but hate that the device is 7+ years old technology-wise.
As far as pianos, the Yamaha and Korg are basiclly tied, (thanks to the Krome sharing the Kronos piano samples)... For everything else, the MODX beats out both the Krome and FA, thanks to it's several generations newer engine. That all said, it really doesn't matter - all 3 of these synths are "mid-range" boards, so soundwise they will never match up with the "Flagship" synths, (Kronos, Montage, ect.), but any one of them is more than good enough for the "average" player...
The MODX has the exact same sound engine as the Yamaha Flagship Montage. Meaning it sounds exactly the same. So yes It does match up strictly sound speaking. It has exactly the same presets and sounds.
@@briez1 Yes, but lots of people also complain about build quality and the keybeds on the mid-range and top of the line models so. Have to take it all into account.
@@briez1 And those assumed negatives often translate into their brains telling them that something sounds "different" than what it actually does. Years back that happened with the Korg Krome - I had conversations with a bunch of people who were positive the 88-key, with it's full hammer-action piano style keybed sounded better than the 61/73 key models, even though they were all the exact same keyboard internally.
Montage certainly has more controllers and stuff. Haven't tried the Keybed. I recently bought the MODX8 and am impressed with all it can do! Haven't tried any of the other ones. But it is cool you get Yamaha flagship sounds for less than half the price of the Yamaha flagship synth!
@@briez1 You aren't wrong though that the Montage/MODX share the same engine, but synth-players are a weird animal. I've noticed the same with the Roland D-05 Boutique and the D-50, tons of people saying the full D-50 sounds "better", even though both are the exact same synth, just in different forms. Guess appearance does matter after all, just not how it should...
Yamaha modx is the king. I'm glad I own one. The DX7 FM synthesizer in the modx is the food of the soul.
Yamaha sounds most musical and inspiring.

Just a question of equalization.
Just bought my fa 08 and soon on my way to krome 88 ❤️🙏🏽
1: Mods ( Piano - Org - Guıtar vs..)
2: Krome (Brass - Leads)
3: R Fa (?)
Brass from the synth where often use from Yamaha (fm) like SY or Roland JV serie.
Excellent Maestro ! 🙏
Modx sounds are really beautiful. Can I get this library. I have the same keyboard😊
I use Yamaha modx live and Roland fa in my studio. I like very much Roland keybed and acoustic piano sound!
Which keyboard would be the best choice !!???? Only one answer
Modx
That's a MODX8? How do the Yamaha fully weighted keys compare to synth action keys? I'm learning on a Roland FP-30 digital piano. I want to get a synth but I feel like fully weighted keys would be too slow for a synth?
I think modx8 is quite good (similar to p115) but modx6/7 have a bad keybed.
真没想到MODX音色会比KROME好这么多,KROME这么多年看来确实老了
Thanks
Hey man, would you mind sharing why you prefer krome over modx?
What are the differences between their keybeds? I'm in the process of buying a new 88 keyboard and i need a good, durable, reliable keybed, among other things. Btw, I only know how juno ds88 feels, is the fa08 with the exact same keybed as ds88?
Yes, the DS88 and FA-08 both use Roland's Ivory Feel-G action and I think it's one of the better ones in this price range.
Roland 1, 2 Yamaha, 3 korg
Krome ain’t getting a fair fight. It’s semi weighted while Mod and FA is weighted. With that weighted action, the piano comes out way better.
Yes of course. It's not a real fight, they are just my actual keyboards! 😉
For yr demo
Yamaha, no question about that ....
@@synthguy7774 I also like Fa08 keybed! 😜👍
MODX sounds the best overall.
Me encanta yamaha
Great video, man.
First off the korg volume is louder, you need to set the volume at the same level as the rest.
Not a good comparison.
Pianos & EP - Roland, Synths & pads Yamaha & Organs & Arps - Korg.
Earned a sub. +like! Thank you!
Well played, signore! 👍
Modx
Fa08
Krome
Im actually surprised at how the krome is a big drop off compared to the kronos ,normally they keep the same sounds atleast
I think krome has good synth sounds, not so good on acoustic sounds!
@@lucalongoni4766 I agree. As user of Krome and Modx, I think Modx better at acoustic instrument. And Krome is better at synth, drum and pads I think!
Great comparison.
Does anyone know the name of the first song? I want to know it.
I just played some simply chords... I don't know if there is a similar song! 😅
@@lucalongoni4766 Oh, I see.
I didn't know it was your ad-lib playing. I was listening to it, thinking it was a nice song. haha
Joseph Ballew More like known cliché...
I have the Kronos 2 but I do not like its emulation of acoustic instruments much, yamaha is better that.
Looking for a new keyboard but it's so hard to know what to buy. The Roland sounds are pleasing to my ear but hate that the device is 7+ years old technology-wise.
They just got a new upgrade to the software 2.0
