Milky Spore is best to put down when soil temp is about 70deg which in Spring is right before they surface and right before they go underground before winter. Easiest way is to set out a Japanese beetle trap, check 2x daily. As soon as you catch the first one, remove it immediately and throw away. Then put down the Milky Spore and repeat again in the fall around Oct depending on your location. Do that 2x a year for a couple years. Since it’s a bacteria it’s safe for pets kids wildlife etc.
Thank you so much for this!!! Love the diagram and explanation that the food source needs to be eradicated. I live on an extended lot size with 17 trees! The animal and pest control...not to mention the leaves here in Michigan fall...is almost equal to a 20 hour per weekly part time job.
We are in Chico, California, in a canyon just below the town of Paradise. We never had a problem until after the fire that went through. All the natural predator snakes seem to have disappeared. I used to freak out about the rattlesnakes but I think now I wouldn’t mind one or two, lol. Actually we had all kinds of snakes, gopher, king, garter, miss those guys now.
Great info, thank you. I live in Houston, Tx. Do ALL grubs come from Japanese beetles? I just wondered if these products will work on grubs in ALL regions?
Most of the comments here I see are I used Milky Spores and it didn't work. Maybe people used both but did not specify use of Repellex or similar. I live in New England and question for The Garden Guru. It's almost December. Would you recommend starting this solution right before spring hits?
Good Day, put down the milky spore product from St. Gabriel but how do I know if it worked? It's been able 4 weeks but those tunnels are still showing up on my lawn. Now it's getting cold in North Carolina so I may have missed my window of opportunity? Should I what until spring or by 12/28 - 29 it will be in the 60's - do I have another chance? Thanks
Hi Maria, sorry for the late reply! You can purchase the products in this video in-store only at this time at one of our year-round locations in Virginia Beach, VA.
Where can we get a smaller amount of Milky Spore and buy RepelX? When they cut a field close to me, the voles and moles come running. I have about 600 sq ft max that I need to treat. I could share with the neighbors too, but we don't need more than about 2500 sq ft. I'd suggest rototilling if it's a garden area, non-grass yard too. The voles and moles run and you take out their tunnels. It gets rid of empty holes and yellow jackets that use empty holes too. I think it's best to start applying around your house and structures 1st, then do a circular area around your house, garage, shop, etc. That way, you don't have any critters digging towards your house, sheds, workshops, barns, garages, etc. Do you have a recommendation on what order to apply these and a white cedar product for fleas, ticks, flies & larvae, etc.? I use a white cedar product, as my neighbor has a mulberry tree that dumps berries every year, and not only does the white cedar product work on fleas and ticks, but also flies that come around from the berries as well. I've caught a couple of voles in my yard, and I have tunnels a couple of months after the field a couple of lots over got cut. I saw a lettuce plant, a pepper and tomatoes start shaking and disappear like a cartoon. They are very destructive! I'm guessing the systemic product isn't great for vegetable gardens? I'd never seen voles until last year. Moles can actually be a beneficial think in some circumstances. I had one that ate beetle and other larve, and he/she was awesome. They aren't a problem now! Neither is the mole! S/he moved on. Is the Soil Perfector organic? Can these products be used around cats and dogs? Around chickens? Livestock? I know castor plants can be incredibly toxic to cattle, so that should probably be mentioned. For rats and mice, RatX or MouseX works extremely well, and if the cats or a dog or birds get them, they won't be poisoned. These only work on gluten processing in rat and mice guts, yet are safe for pets and other wild animals, water and food gardens. If you have a really bad problem, you can use lead-free pellet darts and get some good target practice at night! Use a strong CO2 pellet gun, use the lead-free darts, and get a 2-fer! It works, but can make for a long night! Can you use Repel-X with chickens, cats, dogs, livestock, etc.? It seems you suggested yes, but the castor oil is a bit of a concern if you have cattle, and I wonder about wells and water sources too??? We're hoping to be back on our well system if we get more rain, so I need to ask! Thanks in advance! Great video! I'm familiar with milky spore, yet not the Repel-X. Obviously I don't have cattle here, my yard is too small, but we do have community wells that feed about 7,000 households, ,and cattle nearby, so it's very important to be safe with our water & such. I don't think the tablets or the other systemics are a good idea. I wouldn't want our water tasting like hot peppers 4 or 5 months down the road! A bit of info about how this can affect water wells, both shallow wells, and deep water wells under bedrock, would be very helpful! Voles are very cute, about like hamsters with a longer tail, but they can carry nasty diseases, such as those which cause hemorrhagic fever, and can carry ticks and fleas that carry Lyme disease, so controlling voles is more than just a problem of eating your plants! They can be a very serious health problem! I'll subscribe and see if you have an answer for e. I know this is an older video, but I hope you are continuing this series! Excellent information! If you have an Amazon.com or Walmart associate link, that would be helpful, so we can order these products from you! I'm in California, yet need some help with voles this year! Since the pandemic, and resulting lockdown, we've had a lot of wildlife this year... far more than usual! Rats, mice, voles, and accompanying animals such as bobcats, mountain lions, deer, bear, foxes, coyotes, hawks, owls, etc. have all been prolific this year. It seems the woods are trying to take over with the decreased auto traffic. We had an explosion of rodents and critters that eat them this year. Thanks again! Great video!
I live in the Central San Joaquin Valley California. Gophers are prolific. They destroyed my vegetable garden for the last two years. Do you have any advice? Im starting my seeds indoors now, and because of the gophers, I have purchased 1/2 wine barrels for containers. I am limited on space though with the wine barrels. I have a HUGE backyard, and chickens. Any advice?
Hi there! Milky Spore can be applied anytime the ground isn't frozen, but freezing temps will not kill the beneficial bacteria once they're in the soil.
I have applied Milky Spore last year!! My concern is the moles are living off of the earthworms!! I have a landscaping company that applies organic fertilizers to my turf!! Question?? Do moles live in my beds!! Should I heavily treat my beds in addition to my turf!!
Hi there! Repellex is safe to use on plants. It is an organic repellent and there are different products under this brand that work well for various purposes, like repelling dear and rabbit or moles and voles sepcifically. Please see the Repellex website for further info! repellex.com/learn/faqs/#faqs2
Hi there! The tube is the Milky Spore Control Garden and Lawn Dispenser. A great tool for getting rid of those moles and voles! You can find these at both of our year-round locations in Virginia Beach, VA!
How does all these options work for shrews? They are causing tunnels in the ground and surface tunnels through the grass. I have trapped a few so I know for sure what is doing the damage.
Hi! Unfortunately, we do not have an online store at this time on mcdonaldgardencenter.com. However, if you are ever in the Virginia Beach, VA area, we'd be happy to help you with the plants and products you need.
Hi Patricia! Yes you can apply Milky Spore anytime the ground is not frozen. Spring and fall are the best times to do it! Please let us know if you have any more questions.
Hi there! All of our garden supply products in our moles and voles webinar are meant for the garden. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Can these be purchased locally ? I imagined after 4 years and no updates the price + S& H are high . Im in ZONE 5 midwest Il. This is a great video. Can't find an update yet !
We treated for grubs over and over and it did not get rid of the moles. They love earthworms. The know how to eat the head of an earthworm off so it cannot tunnel and they keep dens of these for eating. I use tunnel traps. The only way to truly get rid f what is in your yard but they will come back. It is a never ending battle.
The voles will come back looking for food, and yes, stronger. You have to repel them &/or use traps, very seriously. It works, but if the voles seem to be making more tunnels, they are looking for food. I'd get on the repellents and traps. Then you don't have the Japanese beetles nor the voles. Japanese beetles can and will take out an entire orchard within a few days. I've seen them do it! It sounds like you caught them early. Be glad, and don't back off now! Voles can carry ticks with Lyme disease, can carry some types of hemorrhagic fever, and fleas that carry it as well. They are also a serious health issue. I hope this helps! If you trap them, use gloves and treat them as if they have COVID-19! I'd dispose of them in a plastic bag in the trash as well. I hope this helps! Good luck! We have them bad this year too!
@@CarolReidCA i still have Japanese beetles grubs, planted something a few weeks ago and i seen them then. so i wasted my money, i am using caster oil and i have a trap now. thanks
Gopher 2 Homeowner 0, Round 3! Just had our resident gopher digging, and placed the "Giant Destroyer" smoke bombs in the tunnels, we will see who won this round!
Unfortunately earthworms are Staples for moles. You can kill the grubs and other pests in your lawn, but it does nothing to address a moles staple food source, the earthworm
My yard is full of snake hole holes. The yard is so lumpy I cant hardly mow it! I have a new mower now . I want t to have a better yard but my nudhey is null now. Great video. P S. I don't have mounds just snake holes .they are Voles. Please help .
Help with Voles. Holes are snake holes ; no mounds. My Yard is so lumpy you can't walk on it and my new mower just " bounces a roses the yard no matter how slow I push it . My neighbors are making sure I don't t drive then Into their yards . I just moved here . Got my new lawn mower because having it done by someone else brought back all the weeds and. Crabgrab grass had removed when I moved in. These appear like snake holes and they are all over . HELP !
One of the best videos I have seen. Moles are destroying our yard. I haven’t seen many grubs but we have a lot of earthworms.
Just planted 11 blueberry bushes. Found vile sized holes at the base of each one 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Is this safe for fruit trees?

How does all these options work for shrews? They are causing tunnels in the ground and surface tunnels through the grass. I have trapped a few so I know for sure what is doing the damage.

Are these safe for my guinea pigs?
How attack the mound of moles
Hi Cathy! If you follow the recommendations Mike has in this video, the mounds should slowly dissipate.
We treated for grubs over and over and it did not get rid of the moles. They love earthworms. but they eat worms to, so i used this last summer it was ok for about 2 weeks they came back double. i treated again it made it worse.

Will rat poison kill moles and voles

You do not have voles you have moles.
Grass grubs…? 245T gets rid of those….
Moles and Voles are as different as geese and hawks. One is a carnivore and the other is a herbivore.
Yup. He says that right at the beginning.
What about getting a cat?
Hi Tucker! Cats are great natural predators to moles and voles.
You say it’s organic. But you avoid using the comment safe in gardens vegetables.
An infomercial
Brilliant
Moles are insectivores!!!
U keep getting mo expensive! But las vegas don't have jap. beetles!? and u forgot the other guy the gopher!
He did mention gophers. Same fix as moles
