I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up listening to Bright Eyes. I remember the original felt like it voiced my pain at the time. This is a wonderful, well rounded new version of this song. Still painful and emotionally but more mature as well. Bright Eyes constantly makes me fall in love with their music with each new release.

Fevers and Mirrors is still my favorite Bright Eyes album. It's a rare kind of album that is perfect all the way through, not one weak song. It's also their most raw and emotional album and despite being depressing it is so cathartic to listen to.
No matter how happy I get bright eyes will be my favorite band of all time.
This song gave me the determination to save my own life once, back when I was a teenager. It's still my #1 favorite song on Earth. I'm profoundly grateful to hear it revisited in any capacity. Love you both
Fever and Mirrors was one of the first albums I ever heard from Bright Eyes. Over the years these songs transform with life. There is some magic in that. This re-release feels like healing.
I never thought they would re record this. To hear it this many years later, new, is amazing.

interesting take - and i envy your perspective, as mine was a big cringe at this release. Felt like a perversion of a classic quintessential bright eyes track, and raw emotional folk song of my childhood.
I'm not a purist, I was excited to hear a re-imagining of a classic but boy did this miss the mark for me. Felt super lackluster, but i suppose Ive just grown in a different direction than conor and most current fans.
@@resoundingsource6595 Tbh, didnt do it for me either. Felt less raw emotion in the song, the thing I'd always loved about it and could feel listening to the original just... wasnt there for me.

This band, this song, these lyrics…. They still mean everything to me. I’ll remember everything.
God.... When I first heard this back in 2000 at 19 years old that final line sounded so dark and full of pain and suffering and I pondered it myself many times. And now it's completely transformed and instead of the ponderous and brooding dark question which might even be dangerous to answer, it instead is no longer even really a question but instead an encouragement to hope and live
It is unreal to hear older Conor singing this. I'm in love with this song all over again.

I find this rendition staggering. The vocals are so brilliant, it took a minute to process the percussion and the instruments' excellence.
Haligh is the first song I had ever heard by Bright Eyes and was what introduced me to the world of Conor, hearing this re-recorded and with Phoebe is indescribable

This remains one of my favorite songs of all time.
This was my introduction to Phoebe Bridgers. Bright Eyes and I go way back.

when I was sure I was not only the only 14 year old girl in the world with depression, but the only one on earth, Conor came and he sang to me. and he saved me from a dangerous road of self hatred.
I have the original cd since the day it came out. I’m feelin old but still glad to be here.

I lived this pain when it happened. I used to scream this song at the top of my lungs. This lacks the raw emotion and honesty of the original. But I appreciate the effort.

Idk it's lacking the raw Emotion that was captured perfectly in the original version. It's cool that they redid it.. it's not horrible. But it's not better than the original. It's like he took all the angst out of the song and this song is one of the most angsty! It encompasses The angst that is Bright eyes! Without angst there is no Bright eyes. Sorry, Phoebe I love you you sounded great on the hook. But if it's not broken don't fix it. I love you bright eyes so much you've got me through life and I will always love you guys but this, idk.
