Mr. Shanks, thanks for your well-prepared presentation. May I ask your opinion? At Duet 6:7 parents are commanded to train their own children to love God. So why did God bless Hannah's plan to have Eli (who was not such a great father) raise Samuel? (I have an idea about this, but I'd like to know yours.)

That's a great question! Have you found an answer, and will you share it?

Tia Vee, thanks for kindly asking. At Samuel 2: 5 Hannah states "The barren has given birth to seven". The only barren woman who gave birth to seven children was Leah. (Leah was barren both per Gen 29:31 (until God intervened for her) and per Gen 29:35 "she stopped giving birth".) God ended the barrenness of Leah (the unloved wife) before He ended the barrenness of Rachel (the loved wife). As a result, the unloved older sons of unloved Leah became jealous of the loved younger son (Joseph) born to the loved Rachel and tried to murder Joseph. I think Hannah realized that the intense rivalry of Peninnah (the unloved wife) against Hannah (the loved wife) was far more serious than Rachel's rivalry had been against Leah. I think Hannah correctly reasoned that the unloved and jealous sons of Peninnah were going to hate and likely try to murder the loved and younger Samuel. So, just as God arranged to have Joseph saved from his murderous half-brothers by removing him from their family (all the way to Egypt), Hannah asked God to save Samuel by removing him from Hannah's family (and sending him to Shiloh). And God likely saw that Samuel would make a fine replacement for the bad sons of Eli. So, evidently God decided that protecting Samuel's life took precedence over the principle at Duet 6:7 of parents being commanded to train their own children. How does that sound?
