Everybody forgets that U2 played SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY in the most important ENGLISH STADIUM. They have all my respect because it's very tough for an Irish sing this song in the centre of England
I'm English and please believe me most English people know Sunday bloody Sunday was Barbaric. Innocent civilians were killed by British soldiers. It should never have happened and may it never happen again. The lyrics in this song is very clear, it's not able taking sides but calling for peace, "I won't heed the battle call, it's puts my back against the wall".
It isn't tough to sing your hits..:)
Well, it's not a separatist song. It's just about an end to the violence really. It doesn't take sides.
It’s ok,us Scots Guards were doing the Security..true..
@Paul Ritchie Scots Guards, 💂♂️ 💂♂️ 💂♂️ 💂♂️
You got my respect.
Live Aid was massive for two bands in particular..U2 and Queen. For U2 it marked the first true worldwide exposure that would propel them up to the absolute top. For Queen, it marked a comeback from a slightly stalled career, to being universally acclaimed as the best live act in the world. U2 actually thought the performance had been a disaster, as Bono, in an attempt to get closer to the crowd, jumped off the stage and stayed down at crowd level for six minutes during the second song ‘Bad’, which meant they didn’t have time to perform ‘Pride’ which was their current single. That’s why he stomps off at the end of the song..he’s so upset that he’s wrecked’ the bands big moment! Of course, to us it just looked like pure drama and showmanship and went down as one of the days most iconic images…which in turn, just blew up their live reputation even more.
I have to say while we were watching this unfold I'd have preferred they had done bad as they did.
When he jumped down and actually interacted with the girls from the crowd Wembley absolute blew up. Not many other artists on that level done as Bono did.
I've said before many many people think their Under A Blood Red Sky performance was their best live.
For many of us who love U2 this was their best ever, especially with Bad.
Absolute legend of a performance
And for Phil Collins to play with Led Zeppelin was a total blast. Especially ruining their set !
Bono saved the life of a young lady who was being crushed in the crowd. The one he dances with before returning to the stage.
Bono didn't jump down to just get closer, he jumped down to assist a woman who was being crushed in the front row. He got her over the rail and danced with her for a brief moment before returning to the stage.
Pride (in the name of love) wasn't their current single at the time... it was The unforgettable fire which went top 5 about that time
I've only just started getting into U2. This live performance is visceral as hell, such an incredible groove.
Check out the Zoo TV tours
@The Pogue Ooo thanks, Ill have to watch that tonight!
Any time is a good time to start a voyage of discovery when it comes to the music of U2. Such a brilliant band with so many good songs. Their 90's music is my favourite as it is more experimental however some of their 80's music is legendary.
@The Pogue Completely agree; ZOO TV Sydney stands comparison with any other artist; insane.
And right after this was Dire Straits and then Queen. What a time to be alive in 85’.
Do not forget that other famous and stunning bands performed on that wonderful concert day, too! Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Sting, Phil Collins, Led Zeppelin and etc....
Greetings frm Brazil.
@Vera Regina +Ozzy
I’d call it majestic venue. unforgettable.
I was born in 86, this is my kinda scene and I only wish my life began earlier
And Queen made ppl forget about every other act that day 😊🤟🏾
Que atmosfera incrível lindo ver essa platéia dos anos 80 🇧🇷🇧🇷
That performance gives me goosebumps! Such a talent!
Me too. Powerful stuff. Incredible band. Not even in their prime yet here. Goosebumps is right.
I was at this concert and after U2 finished their set I turned to a guy sitting next to me and said, "that's a pretty good band. Do you know who they are?" He looked at me like I was crazy and said, "That's U2, man!" The next day U2 was one of the biggest bands in the world.
Omg you are in the show? HOLY SHIT
I remember my high school buddy was over at my home. He decided to listen to what was on my generic "walkman". "Church music? You listen to church music? Seriously?" It was the beggining of "Where the Streets Have no Name". I answered, "That's U2!" Him: "What's U2?" Three months later we were at the biggest rock concert either had ever been to - U2 touring the Joshua Tree.
James Journalist they were already well known
@Choco Manger That is amazing. Thank you for sharing your story.
Amazing! I wish I could see them live. Thank you for sharing this awesome story.
Still one of the most powerful performances
🍀💪
I was there. That day was magical. It's been 37 years, but I remember it like it was yesterday.
@Rafael Oliveira Nunes wow what an incredible experience
Absolutely one of the greatest rock bands of all time.
🍀👍
A massive pre cursor to what is the modern CCM guitar sound. The edge was a huge influence with his use of effects and delay.
Queennnnnnnnnn
@Perry Yes Queen , Freddie
Highly debatable
Best version ever and I've seen the band live over 20 times! Still gives me goosebumps.
Saw them live once, but even I knew that. Outstanding.
There’s one performance where they’re playing live on a mountainside with fog and mist rolling in. That’s phenomenal.
@Stanetti Els red rocks/denver '83 amazing show!!!
@Bettina Hansen
That’s the one. What a setting for the show and an amazing show.
@Stanetti Els yes! must have been great to be in that crowd!
Greatest rock band ever ❤️👍🎤🎸😊
That intro riff always gives me chills
This will give you chills
Not huge on U2, but easily one of the greatest performances ever
If you knew their music better than you would be big on them. So very many great songs.
Elinor Taylor nah
That's a real push,
@viktor rogestam 40 years of quality music; one of the best bands ever.
🇧🇷😀
Queen came to party; U2 came to leave a message and remind us what this concert was all about. You can wax all you want to about Freddie but the power and raw edge of U2 outshone everyone that day. Music with balls.
This song could have been written last year, it sounds so far ahead of the 80s and yet it was a song that helped define an era. U2 have always been far ahead of their time
I was 10 years old and still remember as it was yesterday...Dire Straits and Queen....fantastic!
Led Zeppelin in Philly (even thou thy blew it)
As a 90s child, I really envy those that saw U2 live in the early 80s.
In 2017, while not as good, they were still good
Uve no idea.& b4 moble/cell phones all but destroyed live shows.yes there were more than a few shows were it goes extremely uncomfortable up front but thankfully nothing more.take a look at u2 croke park 1985 ul get my point
I saw them at a free concert in a Dublin park around '83, and my then boyfriend's band supported them at another concert, it was all very local, but there was an excitement about them, i think people could feel they were special and were going to be really big. There were hundreds of bands in Dublin then but they stood out.
Umas das melhores músicas do U2! 👏👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Uma das melhores músicas do mundo já compostas. Uma crítica à um domingo sangrento que realmente existiu
They had a confidence, determination, clearly going to the top. Different from anybody else that day. From directing the stage cameras to leaving the stage. Queen (a superb performance) were more - look what we have done - and U2 were - look what we're going to do. One of the rare days the musical time continuum met head on.
TT1221 this is spot on man. I’ve watch both performances like 100 times now
Queen represented a great past and U2 the future
Great take!
What makes them different from other bands is they stayed true to their roots. They still have the same members and they still work with the same team and they still act like normal people (albeit very wealthy and famous normal people)
Yeah, they were a band of the future and they were confident in their sound, even amidst monster bands such as Queen. That require some balls and self-steem
I don't know if y'all noticed but it's just the four of them and music is just wow. Their combination is just perfect. Just amazing.
This was their prime...One and Beautiful Day are tunes just going through the motions
@OH_I _Will They're awesome.
La canción que más motiva y emociona a Bono. Es puro sentimiento y corazón.
Olha só a platéia fervendo na maior alegria, pura energia, essa música é muito bonita, e U2 é uma banda espetacular,
U2 GAVE THE BEST PERFORMANCE IN MY OPINION THANKS TO LIVE AID
Great time to be alive many unforgettable acts that day
I was there!!! I lost my friends but still enjoyed the hell out of U2!!! Bono and the Edge were just pure magic!
this kind of raw emotion and sincerity is rare in modern bands, man, that guitar riff is insane
but hey, that Imagine Dragons sure sells a lot of Jeeps...
It's rare in U2 too.
Brilliant
check out Greta Van Fleet
@Joseph Pisacano Or u could listen to led zeppelin instead of a copy and imitation?
Com certeza uma das maiores bandas de rock de todos os tempos.
I saw U2 at their concert here in Manila last Dec 2019. I gotta say that they sound like the actual recording when they perform live. One of the greatest bands even today!
I remember being 13 that summer, watching this thing all day long on TV. I was so excited when the day progressed to U2 and they played this.
Que performance, é de arrepiar! Massa de mais.
Uma das melhores música do U 2. Bono, ícone do rock. ❤️
WHATEVER YOU SAY ABOUT U2 THEY HAVE TO BE ONE OF THE GREATEST BANDS TO GRACE THIS EARTH.WHAT A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE AS WITH ALL THE ARTISTS ON THAT GREAT DAY IN ROCK AND ROLL HISTORY.
Lol
Just a young kid singing from his heart, and it was the start of a long and successful career! Powerful performance and the vocals were strong. bless you my brother in arms.
THIS is the moment Live Aid came alive. This performance is just blistering passion. A rawness and power which was unmatched on that incredible day.
Queen did better
@Gold Brick Studios hell yes. No doubt about it
@Gold Brick Studios No, only old persons, over 30 were bowled over by Queen, young ones were done after U2 performed, they thought that it was the highlight.
I was a 14 year old kid in 1985, I remember watching Live Aid beginning to end on Canada's MTV, Much Music. The only U2 song I'd ever heard to that point was Pride ( In The Name Of Love). When I saw U2s performance that day, I knew just how amazingly HUGE this band was going to become! Theirs and Queen were the stand out performances of that day! 2 bands at the top of thir game
Nobody came close to Queen
U2 was a distant 2nd
Qué pasada! Vuelvo a ser joven! M pone los pelos de punta
Love U2. Look at that crowd... Live Aid was an amazing accomplishment, great to watch it that day and still so good today.
To me, one of the best performances of this day, right after Queen. I was already a fan, and had already seen them in concert once. The first of four times. Fantastic.
I was 14 been listening to the Lp was so giddy to see them on stage was an awesome hot sunny day ibwont forget im 52 now and still getting goosebumps ❤
One of the greatest performances in all of Rock History!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Queen had THE best in MUSIC HISTORY
Easily the best decade of music ever. Long live the 1980’s! 🌹❤️🌹
Adoro estes caras, são D +++++++
I'm Brazilian, my father watched Live Aid in 1985 through television at a store in the mall of his hometown, the only with signal to the broadcast. He said about 40 people piled up close to each other to get a glimpse of the event and it was U2 opening for Dire Straits and then Queen, and that everyone wanted to sing and dance but there wasn't enough space inside for that so they all just smiled and sung most of the songs together. I hate not being alive at the time. Such a better, slower-paced life with the absolute best musicians to ever exist. I envy everyone who witnessed the 80s
Que testemunho lindo
Eu só tinha 1 ano. 😊
I’m Canadian, and like your father watched a lot of the concert through a store window in a mall. It was almost standing room only in front of the TV. I’m a musician and my three band mates and myself were almost late for a gig at a local club. We eventually tore our selves away watching Freddy blow the crowd away. Probably one of the best concerts of all time
U2 é incrível, difícil encontrar uma música que eu não goste 🥰
I was 16 and unespectedly for me this came live on TV. I almost feel like a legend just for being young in those times.
I'm fourteen... I love these punk-classic rock musices.. I feel bad for the new songs ):
Perfeição!!!!
Incredible! Looks like U2 stole the show with emotion. Every act was so good. Any one of them would have been a top 5 concert in my life, but all of those artists in one day. Unbelievable, my mind is blown. This has to be the greatest concert of all time.
I was there for the Joshua Tree tour.. Oakland California 🎉💙🤍🙏🏾
What a song. Energized and spirited.
Meu sonho é ir num show deles!
Singing Sunday Bloody Sunday in London and getting cheered in 1985...pretty nuts.
Not really, as Bono famously said, it's NOT a rebel song.
Still wonder if they didn't have bullet proof vests on under everything. IRA kills a family member of mine in a London bombing? All bets are off.
@Michael Cress aye alright u
@456 123 True story, that was a scary time in London. It is what it is. Just context.
@Andrew Ya, but he was stupid enough to put Bloody Sunday in the title and then tried to explain that it wasn,'t a rebel song. total eejitry out of a young bould Bono 😀
Minha infância já era fã do U2 ! 🙏👏👏👏
El mejor tema de U2 en vivo !!! Q fuerza tiene !!!
It's magical to see a concert. Just a huge group of people who are there to have a good time.
Right on my bro..
I am not a big U2 fan, but I like this song. They used to play it really well live.
A maior banda do mundo a partir de então. TJT veio paraconsolidar o fogo inesquecível que o U2. ❤✌🏿🔥
Love U2 and was a fan before this beautiful event as well as all the U2 fans there. I know so many are saying the Queen was thee band of this concert but all of the bands did their best and I am grateful to all of them for giving a voice to a very important cause. Good on everyone who showed up!
Thank you for showing people how to Give 🌍 and how to Love...♥️
one of the best performances of all times. i love it
Even people who hate this genre of music RESPECT this band AND the meaning behind this song. Legendary.
Sou fã dessa banda incrível Deus abençoe a eles, acompanho U2 desde criança. Vou produzir um vídeo com uma música deles.
U2 is the greatest band ever.
pensa os grandes cantores da época todos eu amo, quase ninguem conhecia os caras, olha a força de uma banda jovem e uma letra verdadeira...
Espectacular concierto, como siempre. ARRIBA U2.
Incrível ❤️❤️❤️
2022 e cá estamos... curtindo muito U2 de 1985!
Still my favorite U2 song.
I think U2 showed the world their energy, their passion and ability at this concert....being seen by a billion people (approximately) wouldn't have hurt though!!
I was at Nou Camp in Barcelona during the 360° Tour. This song came and all of a sudden, all the attendance started singing Sunday Bloody Sunday, almost 90000 people singing along - me included, of course -. Bono wasn’t singing, the crowd did it all. I still remember it with goosebumps down my spine as one of the best experiences I’ve been through in a live performance.
Sem palavras entre as melhores
Thanks to all Artists and people behind the scene/ curtain to make this happen in 1985 - especially Bob Geldorf. Thanks for all organizing and getting in the boat such great Artists. This is a milestone of my youth
Great song ! Always thought the vocals were stellar. Only singers like Teddy Pendergrass, Daryl Hall or Samuel T. Herring from Future Islands could pull this off.
Espectacular ❤😍😍👏👏👏
This performance was so Amazing
I was really stunned by this performance and I was already a big fan... This performance seemed so genuine and full of goodness..
QUE QUE É ISSO MEU DEUS...ANOS 80 QUE NUNCA ACABOU E NEM VAI ACABAR SENSACIONAL
As a boy growing up Devon, far away from anything like this! Not interested in politics at all, this is a great live version! Under A Blood Red Sky was the ultimate U2 album in my opinion!
Que show, Bono cantava de mais nessa época
U2 WAS SOOO AHEAD thier time here. By far best performance of this festival. This performance was a sneak peak at early-mid 90s
Absolutely fantastic live band these boys were only mid 20s doing this when you look at it like that they stole this day by a million miles no other band in the world could touch them at that age
absolutely brilliant
The day before U2 really became famous. The band had some bite, they seemed to sense that what they were about to do, Joshua tree album, major sales worldwide, stadiums tours, were just around the corner. Yes, they had a few hits before this performance, but nothing compared to what came after. Realising that they stood at that moment in time just before their world erupted.
Plus Bono had a mullet :)
CHIQUE NO GRAU. SHOW DE BOLA!!!
En mis 80 buscando en la Radio Música Irlandesa y la gravo en una caset y descubro U2 cómo suena , quienes son, desde entonces los mejores✌️
A melhor música de todos os tempos!!!
NADA SUPERA OS ANOS 80 E OS ANOS 90 NADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Love this song! Take me back to 1985! It dont get better then this!
✌💖🌍🇩🇰🥰🙏🙏
This concert changed my life. I didn't leave my tv set for eight hours.
Да!!! Была классная группа!!!! Есть что вспомнить!!!! 👍💯🎹🎼🎸
I can only imagine the thrill and energy in the whole stadium
Holy crap, the sheer energy on this guy! The song is a banger, but Bono knew how to hype the audience!
God used him😍
Best of the best, best voice ever and the song is so magnetic , majestic!!
The day U2 became international rockstars.
Nope... That would be the Live at Red Rocks Concert.
in New Zealand Live Aid put U2 on the map. And Greg Carroll was their roadie from Whanganui....
One Tree Hill
Yep
@Duke Togo Duke Togo There were only a few hundred people at Red Rocks. U2 were still a relative unknown when Live Aid happened.
Speechless. After all these years. Tears running down my eyes. I could really say that I walked with giants.
Une grande performance avec une chanson à texte bravo U2 🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️
U2 was a force of nature in the 80’s
What a wonderful masterpiece 💙♥️
Legendary concert. Viva U2!
Bons tempos do U2...
My favorite band ever. Oh to be there. I would have loved every second of it.
👍👌🙏💖🇮🇪🎸🎹
Timeless classic. Bono & the edge walk into a bar, bartender says not U2 again..
Through a combination of zealous righteousness and post-punk experimentalism, U2 became one of the most popular rock & roll bands in the world.🙏
Awesome 👏🏻. Watched it as a 14yr old .. love it
U2 and Queen were blown everyone away that particular day.
Outside of Queen's performance that day, this is the best performance of Live Aid!
U2 was way better
@margus kiis no fucking way. Crowd went wild for queen
Elton John ans David Bowie we’re also pretty good
@steve ferry Even wilder for U2. Queen made their ordinary show. Queen was always good live band, so Live Aid wasn`t nothing exceptional. U2 made extraordinary one.
@steve ferry remember U2 were a young up and coming band after this performance they were the biggest band in the world, it's close but U2 stole the day for me.
