  • "In future conflict scenarios against strategic competitors, the ability to cost-effectively deliver long-range standoff weapons en masse from non-traditional platforms expands warfighting flexibility and introduces new deterrence options," said Dr. Dean Evans, Rapid Dragon program manager.
Recently, U.S. Air Force special operators and other U.S. and foreign military personnel completed a live fire of a Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile-Extended Range, or JASSM-ER, long-range cruise missile on a pallet from a cargo plane over Norway in early November in the first-of-its-kind test in Europe.

Name another plane that has gotten in and done so many close shaves its an expert at saving bacon. It was hilarious when they needed an example of a mass of soldiers being accidentally wiped out by friendly fire from the A-10 at congressional hearings because the military doesn't want to keep repairing them after fighting up close (let that sink in, they would rather have soldiers die than spend a few extra million repairing A-10s that get shot up getting close and mean, apparently they don't think about the long-term costs of wounded vets where A10s would pay for themselves either), anyway disregarding the stray inevitable shrapnel and ricochets they could only find one case where an entire couple platoons got wiped out because the pilot of the A10 strafed the wrong location and that was done because of miscommunication not improperly having a visual ID. Warthogs are usually close enough to the line they can tell if the troops have brushed their teeth. Long may pigs flyl

Why would I not have a target for a live fire exercise?

It’s Polish with a long “O” not a short “O” although the Poles do shine in operation.

We, as a country, want to show the world our toys, and for our enemies to sweat bullets and throw a flag. A white flag. . .

So they converted a cargo plane into a bomber plane

This just seems a bit pointless or last resorty. Why do this unless you've lost the air supremacy battle...Countering my argument a bit I suppose but if you do have the wonder 6G fighters that can do everything then maybe these might be useful but I'm not convinced.

This will be very effective in Europe where NATO will be having to use most if not all it's fighter jets at the start of a war with Russia in the air defense role and the ability to launch hundreds of JASSMs and JASSM-ERs by cargo jet is a force multiplier big time.

logistics is a big one honestly....instead of sending a plane, unloading it, arming multiple planes etc, in certain situations, this could be used just as well as the other planes would be and then you're not doing all the extra supply line crap.

24 cruise missles per cargo plane and you load a couple hundred planes with missles that can pick targets it’s a big deal. You turn cargo planes into bombers and they got longer range.
