Great review, I got this guy yesterday and he is easily one of my favourite Ultramarines yet from Joytoy. The removable cape with a working strap is a nice touch, kinda like a MOTU vest xD.. I decided to get him over Calgar as he is such an important character I have the feeling they're bound to revisit him at some point. Hopefully on a body type similar to this figure with the toe bend and a head that's not constantly screaming? Articulated power fist fingers would be sweet, or alt hands at least for a second version of Calgar since his are unique to him.
I like the new gravis captain - really big badass! No idea why he is so large compared to other battle-breathrens - a design choice? An error? Can't say. For sure he puts to shame all other Spaces Marines but Arjac! I will consider him an exceptional giant across my blue guys, like Arjac or consider him for a solitary display against some huge 1/12 monsters :D But quality-wise it has all that I wanted: great face, great paint job with highlights, epic gravis armor, decently robust joints, and even reasonable pricing. Can't ask for more! BTW JT seems to be screwing the height of many figures, like the new bladeguards being taller than custodes - my old 1.0 bladeguards look like kids compared to them! I can only imagine that there is some variation among the space marines, and these figures reflect that ... Ps: I also don't like those brass casing coming out from powerfist (similar to Calgar), they should make them removable, at least!
I'll be doing the same Mario! He'll be the one huge space marine in my UM army. Like Rockfist but not as tall. No idea why he's so large. I know Joytoy have been scale creeping, but this is quite the leap! I can't help but love this figure, and I'm so glad that joytoy made him more playable. I know you share my love for the flawed first gravis captain, this one was definitely a must-have for me for that reason. The original BG were so thing tiny, but I do like the variation of height with my figures. I wouldn't mind an even larger Calgar now!
The upscale is a little annoying, but then again 40 K size is irrelevant. Wonderful work as always… I always look forward to your videos. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

He's a Chapter Master in bigger armor and he's Primaris, he should be huge now, at least as big as this guy.

I like this early version of the Gravis armor with the insect torso and rope belt much more than the redesigned version. It’s much more imposing and different. I have no idea why GW redesigned it to look almost identical to the MK10 armor.
Yeah agreed. The insect torso design definitely sets it apart. I think this mini came after the redesign, so hopefully it means GW will just go with this moving forward. I could be wrong though
When I saw the real thing in YM Studio in Hong Kong, I was also surprised by its size. It is as big as the Terminator. Is the size actually correct? And why Joytoy increases the size of captain one by one?... I wonder if the 4th one will be bigger again...LOL.
AC! There's been an overall scale creep by Joytoy. This, however, is more of a scale leap! I didn't think there were any of the other UM space marines bigger than Calgar or Terminators, but I may be wrong. If anything, I thought Gravis were supposed to be at most on par with Termies. I'll just consider this one unique, somewhat like Arjac Rockfist for the Wolves but not as huge lol.
The scale is actually accurate to how big the model of the more recent (I believe) Captain in Gravis armour is compared to the other miniatures GW have made. I think even people that have the miniature comment on his size next to Terminators and the like. XD
yeah they know they made a huge mistake so v2 heavy intercessor and aggressors (or all wearing gravis armor) predictable sad they can made same as girliman removable fingers powerfist but joytoy groin piece is now v3 also the legs color it red, use the death company head and sold
I respect mine too, so I added this awesome action figure to it :) Also he's the same size as this in the line of miniatures so Joytoy isn't really "upscaling" they're simply going off of GW's preexisting scale, making a larger character.

Everyone and Joytoy themselves know the space marines have been upscaled now! My Captain with relic shield who is really just a Bladeguard is as tall as my Calgar who is in Gravis. He makes my other mark x guys look short. I am considering my Space marine collection complete after i receive Azrael, they can be my tall guys but no more... and certainly not that giant Gravis capt. Great if you can make it work in your collection. I'm done with space marines and am happy with what i have but am still here for the other factions, SOB, Chaos, Xenos, Inquisition etc.
@@jemdog900 Lmao no I don't, I just did some research and took a look at the scale of the gravis captain from GW's miniatures next to Terminators and it's exactly the same as what this figure is based off of specifically. Also he's nowhere near as tall as Arjac, quite a bit shorter actually. Plus you do realise he's wearing a suit of armour right? 😂 They made Calgar too short imo, I personally passed on him and am waiting for a V2 later down the line. Hopefully with some more unique looking armour like the eagle collar one of his designs have. But hey, because I like the figure and find it to be scaled just fine must mean I work for the company or something....lol, kay I must blindly agree with every critical statement made against them, gotcha. 👍
I am so glad they actually fixed and updated the sculpt, it's so much better than the original.
Yeah, it was worth the redux. As flawed as the other was, I really liked it. This new one makes up for those flaws!

Agreed, that's why I passed on Calgar myself. Glad I got the Captain in Gravis armour instead, hopefully they'll give us one as large as this guy.

Removable power fist is a great idea. I like this size, but he is a bit out of place. He's gonna be an anomaly in size in my UM army
