  • Decided to quit screwing around and finally get comfortable doing autorotations and overspeeds today! I know it's probably easier with a 700 but it felt less nerve wreaking with a 550 😁

Nice work Rob. Looks like your helis will survive the real deal to me.

These are some very nice and different done auto rotations! I think my nerves would be totally destroyed after so many attempts one after another! My heart would beat as fast as in a 400 meter sprint from the moment I hit throttle hold with my heli almost out of side because of the altitude. Great flight in the beginning!!

They are definitely scary at first when you're still trying to figure out how to maintain and bring the headspeed back up!

Very nice! I ordered a Nexus yesterday, I'll be using my spare XL 550 airframe as the test subject. I may pick your brain soon about settings since it's half-Nimbus. ;) I also contemplated the ELRS receiver, but decided to just use one of the TD MX receivers I was using with the Ikon. Hopefully that wasn't an error.

Yeah that will work fine. The only complication with the TD MX is if you want it to report servo bus voltage, you need to have it connected to the SBUS port (which can be adjusted to run FPort), but then you need to run a Y or something to plug in a buffer pack or BEC capacitor.

@@RobertBurrow87 I don't think I'll care about monitoring servo bus voltage, that's what my XGuard backup is there for. LOL

@@JustPlaneChris Yeah, I just feel like I should monitor it but I never actually look at it lol

I love my Nimbus 550, I have mine set up as a 650 right now with the RT Ultimate 610s. Just got it rebuilt after blowing up my HW 150. It suffered a pretty serious crash because of it and I ended up replacing a good portion of the heli. I went with the new Scorpion 160 and it seems like a solid ESC for this setup. How do you like your Nimbus 550 and which motor/ESC combo are you running?

I have a Scorpion Trib 3 110A and an Xnova Lightning 4020-1200kv. I like it light and I like lower headspeed so it works nicely for me 😁

@RobertBurrow87 Nice man, love your flying style. Which batteries are you running? I have the Xnova 4025 1120KV. It makes good power for being a 6S setup. I'm thinking about building a Tron Gemini and going for a more lightweight setup. I imagine you're probably running the mini servos as well? When flying at low RPM how much pitch are you running with the Nimbus?

@@Lance57H Thank you! I've been running some Hyperion 6s 5000s that I got dirt cheap. They're not the best batteries, but no complaints for what they cost. They were on clearance from a shop closing down. And yeah all Torq mini brushless servos, even yaw. Torq sells a carbon fiber full size to mini adapter plate at Helidirect which is how I made the mini servo fit for yaw. I actually weighed the heli the other day and it was 3066g with battery. Been considering picking up a Scorpion HK5 4015 and seeing how that does because that would bring it under 3kg RTF 👀

I picked up my first serious heli around this time in 2021. I live very close to an RC field so I fly a lot 😀

@@RobertBurrow87 wow! you must fly alot alot :P There are guys at my club that have flown for more than 10years and cant fly liike you do in this vid. I've only been flying for about a year now seriously and was just wondering how long it would take to fly like you. I guess it's all down to stick time.
