Yo whoever uploaded this very helpful lecture to the Hip Hop community I thank you! I always learn something new and it rejuvenates my spirit in these isolated fucked up times we're in! The Teacher KRS ONE REAL HIP HOP!
I know u felt bad about the phone running out of space, but thank you for even capturing what u did! To have held ur phone up for the amount of time that you did is still gold :)
So great its a shame no one else was recording. So much knowledge, I for one wont be forgetting any of this anytime soon. He was there to talk about hip hop but actually taught more important and useful things than teachers and professors in a conversational and brainstorming manner and it didn't cost u nothing but a little time.
This is the truth. Thank you for filming this. KRS One is the best statesman for hip hop and rap we have. I've learnt a lot about the history and the reason for the behaviours that are in the scene.
Those of us who remember the "early days of hip hop" (highlighted by the release of "Rapper's Delight") remember it used to be about "enjoying yourself" and "sharing your experiences," period. In short, KRS One is basically saying that "Hip-Hop" was the "inspiration that preceded the action." This is what Hip Hop "used to be" and was treated. Look back at all the "true" pioneers (Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Stetsasonic, Juice Crew, Boogie Down Productions, MC Shan, DJ Scott LaRock, Audio Two, MC Lyte, Kool Mo Dee, Salt 'N Pepa, Whodini, The Treacherous Three, etc...) and you'll see they all expressed their experiences and ideals of hip hop by just "interpreting their surroundings" with a little "song & rhyme." Hip hop used to be a "party atmosphere with no drama, troubles, or violence. The tragedy we call hip hop today was ushered in around 1987 when NWA, King Sun, and other West Coast Gang-Banging rap crews started getting record deals. Fyi, Dr Dre (a.k.a "Beats Audio") will forever be the pioneering architect of this "gangster trash," misogynistic," "ruff yo azz up" subculture that's both "foolishly" glamorized and decimated the true meaning of Hip Hop. Don't let Dre fool you; he was "nothing about gang banging" when he was with his first group (1984) named "World Class Wrecking Crew:" ua-cam.com/video/VfKLB6dw9YEA/v-deo.htmllthough Although west coast crews were rapping about their experiences, the emphasis was put moreso on the violence, although there were good lyrics as well. Shortly after that, "everybody" was a "thug;" even Tupac said in a 1994 interview that if "thuggin' was going to make the money, then a thug is what he needed to be. KRS One is just trying to "right the ship" because what is known as hip hop today is "way off course..."
krs is crazy to say the civil war was not about slavery he does not know African American history he just disrespected African American history because the civil war was about slavery and power.
tipman2000 Its a shame you couldn't record it all but don't be sorry. Thanks for putting this on you tube. This is just what I needed to hear today. So I thank-you sincerely . Knowledge is power and KRS1 is one powerful guy. Wishing you all the best of health wealth and happiness :0)
So much Respect, Thank you for sharing this with us. Mind blowing information!!!!! I have my daughters sitting with me listening to you. So that they too will know the truth. We desperately need a Hip Hop University and academies for K-12. So our kids will know the Truth.
even doe im watching dis on utube do u noe how grateful ill be if i were in attendance there i learned so much in da past hour and some change now its time 2 spread da word......thank u krs 1 and thank u 2 da dude dat uploaded dis video
i knew i was rite, ive been having this feeling in my gut and in my heart for the longest, that WE ARE ALL GODS AND GODESS, we are so beautiful and extremely powerful and here we are buying into fear, killing each other for materials, we're depending on technology way to much its disconnecting from mother earth.it just makes me happy to see that there are people out there that feel the same way as i do.On that note much Love&Respect to the teacher amongst the other teachers(Buddah,Krishna etc) KRS1
We are not gods and godesses. There is but one tru God and that is Jehovah. KRS-One has been trying to hijack hip hop and use it to spread the satanic and false teachings that he has been decieved by. He and groups like zulu nation have made up a bunch of crap based on false religions.
Thank you KRS-One for all the knowledge and insight you have shared with us in this video so great and inspiring ive learnt shitloads more about hiphop in this 1:24:55 than i ever have in my entire life lol i loved every minute of it JAH BLESS Oh and Thank you tipman2000 for shooting and posting You Rock too :D
This IS history... If you don't mind I would like to back this up in our archive to preserve it for future generations. Matter of fact everyone of you should do this! Peace and much respect from Switzerland! IGI B. / Temple of Hip Hop Templist / Swiss Hip Hop Ambassador for the Temple of Hip Hop
nice!!!,... no, not nice.... this is so well explained of a speech about the origins of the greatest music slash life slash hiphop it should be mandatorally watched on public television. shout outs to youtube. big up the movement. hiphop aint dead. lata
I have to agree with you on that Madison. Just bits of the actual Truth coming out is remarkable to hear for a change instead of some zombified crap. Knowledge and wisdom bring about everything else.
Everyone should watch this video and let it soak the mind. Then interpret it in your ways of understanding. Once you've achieved that you can truly express yourself to the world. You then can bring change for the better of everyone, including yourself. KRS-1 is a man of knowledge and understanding. He should be celebrated, but not copied. Even though he is great, you should strive to be even greater. I will achieve this position in life. I am not the next KRS-1, I am the first Mentalkalmplex!!!
As sublime said I know because of krs one... My brother was born same day n year hip hop was born.n he a killer singer... I think how James Brown is hip hop.. James Brown n reggae an Afro pop all on that backbeat
He is trying to educate these kids, and he's so knowledgeable, but he could be so much more effective if he used a lesson plan which would help him to plan out the presentation of the subject. As a teacher myself, I notice him jumping around from tangent to tangent. Some tips for KRS: 1) prepare an outline of the subject. Give students the outline either on paper or as a download. The outline should include all relevant REFERENCE MATERIALS ie, titles/authors of books (as 1 example) 2) names/dates of all historical events/people/places 3) VOCABULARY LIST-terms you refer to in your lecture 4) bring a turntable/LPs to show them how scratch n drop works 5) find someone to sponsor paying for students to be given your book. These are just a few ideas. One more idea...have one person, not a student recording your lecture instead of allowing 10 different students to record it. Students should be listening without the distraction of having to record. As you read from the books, students should have what you are reading to them on paper, given to them prior to the lecture, so they can follow along. I hope this is of some use to you @KRS. It's advice given with love from an open hip-hop heart. You are very very knowledgeable, just need a bit of organization. Much love, peace, blessings!
this only has 67k views? this is one of the wisest hip hop artists alive and motherfucking shit, industry artists, get more views. for shame america. for shame
+Tyson Thein You said it best; KRS is a philosopher, extremely intelligent, articulate and wise, it baffles my mind as to how people support garbage rappers who don't care to edify them and shun folks with wisdom, especially in this the good US of A. This should have no less than 1 million views. Watch any other hip hop video with people denigrating women and talking about murdering this and that and driving this car and wearing this, they have 10s of millions of views. Sad state of affairs.
I got everything he said. I've done alot of previous research on the subject. But it do question if, regular spectators understand. for me thats really important, To be able to skim the surface but still go deep.
@tipman2000 hey thanks love the quick reply. you gotta tell me this.. did he tell you guys while he was doing this lecture what he's trying to accomplish?? is he just trying to spread the word of hip hop or is there something more deep about all this?? i'm just curious what he's doing.. did he say anything about future events, lectures and stuff like that.. also were you a fan of krs one before this or did you just decide to come along and try something new?? thanks for reply! ;)
What makes you think that someone didn't speak about becoming a lawyer after KRS One? It's not like the school can only get someone to speak about something once every 100 years and they chose it to be about hiphop. They invite different people to give speeches about different topics to broaden the students' minds.
Herc threw a party for his sister. Now, everything released never misses a slant on either killing a girl's identity by the labels people tag on them. it doesn't stop there, rappers miss a whole lot of hiphop's beginnings. Everyone would blame DefJam if Russell Simmons wasn't heading it.
