David Salisbury It still does sound overproduced but to fully soak it all in, you need the "slow" version IHMO. And I think large parts of indie pop/rock made today still deliberately seek that simple sound of the 60s and 70s. As deliberately as I have no doubt the overproduced sound of this song is, given it was made for Shrek with all its satirical take on the culture of the 2000s.
