Proxmox doesn't require a license at all, all the license does is basically give you customer support, but you can just not have one, and enable the non enterprise repo to get updates, but all features are available including HA
Heck yeah, we used the internal SD card ports for ESXi all the time, in fact PowerEdge has a DUAL SD card port options too, for that additional redundancy. HP is a pain with "unsupported" hardware, I try to stick with Dell when possible ...or Nutanix, but that's a whole OTHER Pandora box there 🖖
While not flushed with cache, the 8core16t e5-2640v3's are a capable POUW processors when using two or three gpus IMO. Same base clock as the e5-2690v3 with 40w less consumption.
You have to get a 220v 3000w ups soon for sure. Seems too high, but you need to think about duty cycle. 50 percent loaded run a long time (endurance not battery)
Red Panda Mining on the server giving you an issue, why not switch back to AHA mode and install on one drive that EXSi supports? also I would use port 1 and 2 and the first onboard port on the motherboard, also they type/brand of drive you are using is important to HP.
You know sd cards aren't recommended anymore by vmware? I had a lot of issues with sd cards. Starting from 7.0u2 upgraded to 8.0 still issues and switched to an SSD working a lot better.
I do have a motherboard that they would fit in, I was just going to order processors from china. Do you want to trade something? Love the server content. ❤😊
I have nothing meaningful to add, however, my suite case has a USB port so it’s basically a server!

Big up been looking forward to this setup, wanna learn
Always use the flash card for esxi. That way you can claim all storage for vms. Hp makes flash cards that are recommended for use in this case.
Esxi 8 support for x520-DA series is close or at eol. I would recommend spending the extra 35.00 to go with x540-DA series
You tried to update the bios? Might be running an old one?
16:20 Possibly you will need vRealize Ops for monitoring and graceful shutdown. Ill let you know after my training in the fall. :)
Sorry your having problems with the server. I ran it with 3.5" drives and a SSD in the slimline bay, but I ran a software raid with LVM.
ESXi has a free standalone license, but if you want clustering (i.e. vCenter) it's going to cost a lot.

Also HP has a few different Gen 9 builds, the one on the bottom is the original version.
Also I got two better 1U servers for the LT Lite .. let me know!
2690 v4’s mirror raid already setup .. ready to go!

Did you try to erase the raid config before switching to the other sas port?
