It's unrelated, but there's some fascinating reading about cockneys, their speech inflections, with a brief history of cockney dialect in the book, 'Call the midwife', & although it's completely different, the same thing has happened to the changing speech of Australians, particularly for me, Sydneysiders, the way people used to speak in working class areas, in a broad flat tone, has virtually all but gone, except for a small lingering section of older folks.
