Getting 3 nucs tomorrow in Wisconsin. It will be raining with snow overnight for the next three days..... hope there is a break in the rain so I can get them in hives.
Picking up 2 nucs out of Great Falls MT in the morning ... delivering here to Kalispell where our temps are finally going to be warming into the 70s this upcoming week - they'll have a good start for sure as things will be popping open around here.
Fighting honey bound colonies in Southern Illinois right now. Spring is well ahead of schedule here. Full time job and weather kept us from getting supers on when we should have. But we will get them straightened out.
This is very nice thank you for the informative video! Bruce informed me of this video! He was correct a nice video of what i should be seeing when i buy my nuc!
Hey. Fred Dunn sent me a message to say hi when I picked up my nucs from you April 22.. he sent the message too late.. your nucs are fantastically strong! I’ve put one in a long lang, one in a flow hive, and two in some 10 frame SBM wooden hives. First inspection this weekend! They’re working the blackberries this week..
Thank you again. I’ve used EZ Nucs for years, but never thought of venting with the top slot. On that note, do you guys use the Jester feeders to build them up? We only produce a few, and the feeders are great, but we’re not using them currently as they are in the same yard with 4-deep hives (can’t feed the little and not feed the big). I can’t thank you guys enough. While we’ll always be a backyard operation, the encouragement to make queens was a game changer, and I encourage even queen customers to make their own. Thanks so much! 👍🐝😃
Hey Kamon, great video. Do you find issues with the EZ Nuc boxes and water? I find after I've moved the frames over and I go do dump the remainder of the bees in that rainwater can come out of the flutes of the EZ Nuc and dump all in my hive. I've learned to slowly turn it over and let the water pour out on the ground before the dump. Or just tip the nuc box on it's side at the hive's entrance and let the stragglers walk in. I've also noticed too much space at the top. A heavy comb building colony will make bur comb between the top bars and the lit. I still really like them for making nucs for sale. Plus they are great for dumping a swarm in and really good for transport.
Thanks for the great info! I’m getting my first nucs this month! I saved some honey comb from my first hives to put into the hive with them incase the flow stops. I learned it from you brother man! Thank you for being awesome!
Kamon, If it wasn’t illegal to bring comb into AL from another state I would have bought nucs from you years ago. I always thought I would get a couple of your Queens but I guess that’s never going to happen.
I had a really strong hive last year and they went into winter with 2 full deeps just packed out. Then I think it was in early February we had an extremely cold snap for around a week a negative 40 plus. I didn't think much about it because the cold one we had in December was a couple weeks and I checked on them right after and they were still going strong. So when it finally started warming up I took off all the protection wrap and opened up, they were all dead in across 5 frames. They still had frames full of honey that they were on, I think they just couldn't handle that second cold snap. So I'll just have to keep it clean and wait until next spring to get some more bee's ordered. They gave me 10 gallons of honey and they still had more than enough for the winter months. But I'm going to build a building for them to be stored in the winter months next time. I already have small heaters coming in for them so I can keep the Temps to around 10 to 15 degrees in there for them if not just a little bit higher. Hope you have a fantastic summer with your bee's this year.
I just checked him out. Gave me a few more ideas on what I plan on doing for my next year's startup again. If it works out the way I want, I'll let you know. I'll probably post it on my page and probably on TT page. Thanks.
No mites. Like I said they were clustered over 5 deep frame's and just froze in place. That second deep freeze done them in. It was cold. I didn't even Want to get up and going in that cold just to get to work. And then deal with trying to get our trucks started and keep running in it.
@@kamonreynolds I’m going to walk down to Coach Saban’s house and tell him Mr. Kamon is queen hoarding, and the the reason why he got stung from a pissy hive haha.

My nuc had two cups, they weren’t drawn out. I’m glad you mentioned that!
That is one awesome looking nuc. Thank you for all that Laurel and you do for our great community of beekeepers.

I agree that the JAYZEE coraplast nuc boxes need weep holes so the water can leak out.
Yes and yes. The definitely aren't perfect, but they are the best I have found! Going to try to have them at a bulk price at HL this coming year!
I just found your channel and your videos are so thorough and educational; please keep making them!
Good stuff Kamon. Great tips and guidance.
looks like some good bees, gentle.

Thank you for the kind comment! Happy Beekeeping Karen!
Good looking nucs!!!
Nice video Kamon 👍
Thats like the nucs I sell.3 - 4 frames of brood.

Thanks for the video &info 😀
This is a topic.I was literally just going to request!
Another great video. Very informative.
Thanks Gene!
Awesome as ever😊
Well said
Would I need to feed sugar water if I have honey frames from a dead out?
Hi Maggie! I would use the honey frames first and then after that if they burn thru it feed
@@kamonreynolds thank you

Thanks for the video. What’s a reasonable price for a nuc
We sell ours for 195 in the early season unless a lot are purchased. Many are starting to sell them for 215 around here.

I would suggest you go for insulated hives, check out bee barns.
Wow that is cold! Check out Etienne Tardif youtube channel! He keeps bees alive in the Yukon with lots of insulation
