I'm currently in the Canadian Navy and I don't know what line of this I can't relate to. It reminds me of all the divorces and breakups caused due being gone all the time. Some of us do decide to be alone, and a lot of the time we're much better off for it. Whenever we're sailing and it's nice out I'll bring my guitar up on to the flight deck and belt this song out myself regardless of who knows it or not.
I was actually at this show, Dan convinced me to move to Vancouver instead of Victoria. For this, I am eternally grateful. This song pulled me out of a lot as well. Thank you Dan!
You decide to be alone And hell it's cold enough to hibernate So let her drift into the snow It's where she chooses how to operate It might be time to pack her in Set the sails and just get all the way Maybe east or something The west was overrated anyway And the storms coming down These old walls are wearing thin There's an ache to this town And something's gotta give in When digging for gold, and coming Out dry Just a matter of time Just a matter of time So you decide to be alone And sometimes loneliness Can be your friend So let me drift into the snow It's where I'm tempted most to make amend We can wash our hands of all of this And we can hide behind shit eating grins It's probably something I missed I wasn't listening when I should have been And the storm's coming down And these old walls are wearing thin There's an ache to this town And something's gotta give in When digging for gold And coming out dry Just a matter of time Just a matter of time
I'm fairly certain this song saved my life.
Just absolutely fantastic. What a voice!
I love the second verse! Bit of a shame it's not on the album version but I'm glad this video exists :)

You decide to be alone
And hell it's cold enough to hibernate
So let her drift into the snow
It's where she chooses how to operate
It might be time to pack her in
Set the sails and just get all the way
Maybe east or something
The west was overrated anyway
And the storms coming down
These old walls are wearing thin
There's an ache to this town
And something's gotta give in
When digging for gold, and coming
Out dry
Just a matter of time
Just a matter of time
So you decide to be alone
And sometimes loneliness
Can be your friend
So let me drift into the snow
It's where I'm tempted most to make amend
We can wash our hands of all of this
And we can hide behind shit eating grins
It's probably something I missed
I wasn't listening when I should have been
And the storm's coming down
And these old walls are wearing thin
There's an ache to this town
And something's gotta give in
When digging for gold
And coming out dry
Just a matter of time
Just a matter of time
