- Web extra: As a young man Steve Buscemi became a New York City fireman, before finding success as an actor. He talked to correspondent Tracy Smith about the similarities between the two professions.
One of the actors, who, when I see is in a movie, I instantly want to see it. Respected but underrated.
Finally, someone says it like it is.
A Real Stand up guy As American's would say !
This man has been this hardest working man in Hollywood for decades. Just Google all of his work
Finally a time where the word "underrated" is actually appropriate, I liked Steve Buscemi after The Death Of Stalin, love him since I saw tons of clips from Broadwalk Empire, plus his the clips from this very interview where he talks about the show
steve buscemi on 9/12 went down to the trade center and spent 12hr days digging through rubble with E55 looking for firefighters. That's what I call a stand up guy !
He was there for several days later aswell working for most of the day searching for survivors
He chose to do so. He could have simply went about his business and no one would have thought about it. He's a seriously stand up guy-and a great actor as well!
Erik Hafer 12 hours a day for an entire week at that. Extraordinary
Man I wonder if he has health issues because of it now.
He's an awesome guy
Steve Buscemi is a TRUE man of action!
He played villains in movies and plays the ultimate role of a hero in real life.
And true villains playing hero's
Well said
I'll never forget Steve going back to his old firehouse to look for survivors after 9/11. He refused all interviews and photographs. Wasn't there for publicity. He was there to do the job. Amazing actor, even more amazing man.
He's kinda funny lookin
on 9/11 "when some people did something" he put the uniform on and went to work with his old house.....good guy
idiot.
Bababooey 680 he’s an idiot virtue signaling to other idiots and some racists and neofascists
One of Americas elected officials said 9/11 was "something some people did" because they were her people

LA LA LA LA LA LA
My son is a firefigher. saw what he went through just to get there, that academy isn't for sissies. mad respect for those that charge the flames and collapsing buildings to save strangers.
joe m God Bless You and Your Son!
You are a Great Dad!
@De St Which one are you?
@De St Sissies has more than one colloquial definition. For many it has nothing to do with gender or orientation.
There was a three story wooden building engulfed in flames one night next to my place in SF...seeing firefighters in full gear going across ladder that was more horizontal than vertical extending to the top floor was the most badass thing I have ever seen!
I’ve been retired for 87 days after 32 years in the fire service..... it was badass 🚒
I can guess where he practised juggling. I had no idea this man had served, or competed .RESPECT. A close friend of mine won a silver 🪓 for best cadet. Learning all the Temperatures/ materials etc was hard.
This man is a hero. A legendary actor/director plus a real life hero.
Major respect for this dude. He mostly plays weird, villainous, or flaky characters but he has balls of steel in real life. Not many actors are/were heroes in their past lives.
It's the guys like these that turn around to surprise you
(FactsBe)!!!..
You gotta love someone who runs into a building when everyone else is running out
He seems like such a spare guy, and yet he was both a wrestler and a firefighter!? He must be tougher than a nuclear bloody nail.
kingleech16 nuclear nail?
They're tough!
Just don't put him near a wood chipper
Spare?
@Subversive Control In what way?
Had no idea this guy was a FDNY, kudos brother from another firefighter with 28 years of experience.
He worked the engine company in Little Italy.

@@azul8811 what?
I imagine Steve Buscemi working at Ground Zero after 9/11 and far off to the side is John Goodman shouting "ALRIGHT!!! WAY TO GO DONNY!!!!!"
TEXAStooTAL L Steve Buscemi did work at Ground Zero.
John Doe I know dude. I only found out a year ago okay.
YOU'RE OUT IF YOUR ELEMENT
SB, you’re always a part of our Brotherhood, Retired 30 year career 🚒 Arson investigator
Thank you for your service !
Retired firefighter of 12 yrs on my end. It was definitely an experience I'll always remember. Maybe one day Ill do it again.
This guy is one of my favorite actors. Very humble. I think the actors who experience real life jobs or hard times befor they became famous are likely are the ones who are more grateful with what they have and still treat regular people with the same level of respect as they would want.
steve buscemi is the man
Steve 🚌cemi
This my friends is a REAL man! You rock!
The 28 thumbs down were from people who didn't lift a thumb or finger when Steve Buscemi was helping people at ground zero...
He is legitimately awesome...he wasn't helping out during the 9/11 attack for anything else but helping. Steve buscemi is a great example of a human being.
What an amazing human. Making the world better in a direct, vital, helpful way as a firefighter, and in a transcendent, cultural, "there's more to life" way as an outstanding actor. Give this man all the respect.
I have a family member who was FDNY. He has always been a fitness buff, always running or lifting weights since he was a young teenager. He served honorably in Vietnam and came home with a ton of ribbons and medals. He told me that the physical test for the fire department, although he passed, was incredibly tough - WAY harder than he thought it would be. Gotta hand it to skinny Steve that he made it. KUDOS !!! American hero !!!
Just the kind of guy you’d like to spend the day with doing whatever.
I'd probably mostly listen.
Such a cool guy, as a former firefighter I'm impressed. Learned something new about a awesome actor and brother firefighter. Not many people can say they danced with the Red Devil. Have a blessed day and to all brother first responders stay safe and thank you for your service
There's a real man! For me he's also a brother!
Along with hundres of thousands of other fire fighters.
Steve is so humble. I have a lot of respect for him ❤
He is SUCH a great guy in so many ways!!
I think he is one of the classiest individuals in entertainment.
Great actor! Love Boardwalk Empire he was great in that! Plus he was a firefighter! Wow! Keep up the great work Steve! Always been a fan of yours!
He is just the best
one my favourite actors and a very down to earth person.
He went back to firefighter duty on 911 for a few weeks.
Steve! I'm sure your a blessing to your old station.. and a blessing to all you helped Thank You Sir!!
Genuine Hero.
I love Steve Buscemi ♡ Such a brave man
What a lovely guy, comes across as very calm and intelligent.
who's the one jack wagon who gave this video a thumbs down? firefighting is a noble profession
Ryan Wolfram Somebody in a fire pressed the wrong thumb beacuse of all the smoke.
Yes it is a profession but more importantly it's a calling.
JACKWAGON!!!!!!
Ryan Wolfram your right my dad was a firefighter in the navy he love it and had great memories of the fire house in yokuska Japan with all his navy buds
Everyone knows uncle sams canoe club is the best!
Steve, you are AMAZING! A TRUE hero! Thank you!!!
Okay quick question, what are his pants made out of?As they can't be normal simply because they got to hold the balls of this man. He wrestled, was a fire fighter. He quit fire fighting and went into acting. Was retired for over a decade. Then he's at ground zero to help search for other fire fighters. He was arrested for protesting against the closing of fire houses some time later. Yet he's so humble and never tried to take any credit. This man is a true badass and a class act.
God Bless
Steve You are an
American Hero!
Steve Buscemi has been an actor I've enjoyed watching since Fargo.
I thought he looked familiar LoL he was funny in Fargo.
LOVE Steve!
I was on my local volunteer Fire Department for about 5 years. when he talks about just being in the moment and you react as you're trained, I know EXACTLY what he means. every call was like that. you didn't think, you just acted or reacted. and yeah, I've always liked watching this guy on the big screen (or small) because he brings everything to the task at hand; he really is that good, and that underrated.
When you see Steve riding the nuclear warhead in Armageddon, that when you know he’s crazy enough to be a firefighter.
Or Steve being a former Firefighter, is why he had the right stuff to ride a nuclear warhead in Armageddon.
This is a great man..
Okay not to sound mean, but does anyone else think the woman-with-obvious-plastic-surgery is hundreds of times creepier than Steve Buscemi?
On a serious note, I have so much respect for this guy, doing all that on 9/11 and all while keeping the publicity out of it. And I really adore his eyes and voice. Thanks for posting!
***** But he is just as adorable as his characters
testament to his abilities as an actor.
Love this Italian actor ❤️ I always see him with Adam Sandler, I thought for a moment that he was jewish 😊
He kind of looks like Marc Anthony 😍
I wouldn't even describe him as creepy anyway. Just ugly
Good guy.
Love this guy. He radiates heroism and honour!!!
How do yo do fellow UA-camrs?
What a humble great guy! A true hero
Played a great part in Lonesome Dove
What an amazing and brave guy.
0:47 reporter looks like she’s not comprehending what he’s saying and/or thinking of her next question
THANK YOU to the brave men and women firefighters who sacrifice their lives for this county! Thank you!
Great character actor. What a career.
Great guy, amazing person and fantastic actor ❗
My favourite actor
Me 2, he just comes across so real and believable to me.
Wonderful man! Dropped everything to help out! I truly respect this man! Stupid comment, "it SEEMS so different from movies." Duh!
He's actually got a ton of guts. Great video.
One of my favorite character actors
when i see him conair comes to my mind
lol great advice to aspiring stand up comedians at the end Steve!
This guy is a hero he went back to being a firefighter for 9/11
I love him. I really do.
From firefighter to actor to a internet meme Steve is a legend
Well done Steve, well done!!
Tony Parrish....Cochise County AZ
Steve Buscemi is an American treasure
Thats ah Real man right there people!
Great person and actor. A real man
Fargo! Never get tired of it! Brilliant!
I’m proud to say I’m a firefighter, Iv been at it since 2007. I had no idea Steve was one, I have no idea he helped during 911. I watch allot of movies he’s in and he always makes me laugh. Him and Adam Sandler are a great team.
My Dad fought fires in da bronx ladder 44 without protection None available at time and Firemen were expendable and underpaid at time. Due to no protection he died of massive lymphatic failure. In short Firemen who charge into burning buildings knowing that they might not come out are Hero’s. God bless them along with teachers, Police , Nurses and Drs. God Bless America
🌟Hero!!
(I fought a house fire, but not before I first ran away.. then I turned back.)
The fire is hot, temperamental, windy, whirling, crackling, loud, with whisping ropes of flame that snap like a whip! I respect all Firemen!!
My character's idol
What an awesome guy.
Great actor, 👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️. Best movies he is in it!
An amazing human being, true hero .
Yes, it's all about the adrenalin rush. Never fear but always pumped to do the job. The job isn't always clearly defined. While enroute you will get instructions from first arriving units or, you will be the first unit to arrive. It then becomes your first duty to give a report on the type of fire. Every response is different and every tactical manuever is different. It requires quick thinking and always putting a priority on exposures and rescue. It is hard to explain in a limited amount of time but when firefighters aren't in emergency response, they are training and running drills. Always working to be ready for anything. I will always remember my experiences in both urban firefighting and wildland firefighting. It was a the best part of my life. The men and women I worked along side were very special people who were dedicated to the fire service and the people we served.
Great man .👍
Big fan. Loved him in FARGO and his character in SOPRANOS
Much respect to Steve.
Such a great character.
Thank you for service respect
He’s really one of my favorite actors, he played Khrushchev in “The Death of Stalin” which is my favorite role he’s ever played, and I don’t think there could’ve been another actor to play the part as well as he did
One of my all time movie actors.
If they ever do a film on the Rustle Williams case he should definitely play the part of the world’s greatest police interrogator, Jim Smyth.
good actor, brave man
Great guy.
Respect.
Wait...is that really Steve Buscemi? Who graduated from Knibb High School in 1984?
Knibb High football rules!
He graduated way before 1984 he would of graduated in 1975 since he was born in 57.
He was a 4th degree red shirt senior.
I would have never ever imagined this was his history prior to acting lol.
Its not a job.......its a calling and a lifestyle .....its a family ......its more than can ever be described to someone who hasnt lived it. Its the greatest "job" in the world.!
Imagine Steve (donny) coming at you in the ring man 😂😂
A villain in movies and a hero in real life.
1:41 what is this question?
A solid human being from the screen ho real life
good man, Steve.
What a stud
Steve Buscemi should have been in the cast of Chicago Fire. He would have been great in the show.
I love Steve Buscemi so much, without a doubt one of my favorite actors of all time.
Not gay btw, just fanboy in his 35 years of age fanboying him.l
It's official stand up is more difficult than being a firefighter
Steve seems like a grounded man with his head on his shoulders. He gives it his all in his career, but at the end of the day just sees it as a job he has to complete, that he enjoys of course. He's mentioned being refered to as a celebrity, really doesn't mean much to him. His wife is a lucky woman.
He's starting to look like John Waters.
