I’ve just graduated the Bluewater School looking to get into the steward department to bring some island flavor.. just waiting on my MMC out of Jacksonville Florida
I've been in the industry for over 20. For you to have done 60 days and have 60 more to go with the attitude. You have, you will make it very far in this industry? Keep up the good work. Stay safe out there
Yeah I think this is a lifestyle changing career field. That’s the biggest reason among many that I’m going into it. I’ve seen mariner UA-camrs who hate everything but the money and all their complaints besides the occasional racism sounds like pluses to me. I feel like I could deploy for a year at a time n be happy lol but I’ll find out for myself soon. This UA-camr n I have similar vibes n she’s been smiling since piney point 🤣
@@chrishenderson7601 My exact same sentiments bro. That’s why I’m going to SIU. I’m going to the apprenticeship school this July. I can’t wait to start the journey. Hopefully we cross paths fam. This career for me personally will give me the time, money, flexibility, to do what I need to do. I’m in my late 20’s approaching 30 soon lol. If I knew of this career path since High School I would have gone in immediately
@@DapperDonzX I be saying the same shit I had I known about this I would’ve started at 19 instead of 29 lol. Yeah I’m start the SIU app soon I just gotta go to the dentist first I don’t wanna scramble to do anything once the process start. I got everything else.
@@chrishenderson7601 Hindsight is 20/20 fam. Good thing is it’s never too late so we started off the right path. Word of advice. If you get to the coast guard physical part. If they ask you if you have any medical issues (allergies, disabilities, etc) just say no. If you say yes- They will make you jump through hoops to get documentation from your doctor or other specialist doctors. It will take month or more to get the wavier or other forms you need. I also heard that classes are booked from July of this year until February 2025. If you get started with the process there might be a chance someone drop out the program for you to take the slot. Definitely hope to cross paths you with G lol.

Hey I'm really enjoying the videos you're dropping. I am in maritime academy right now about to get my AB endorsement in June. I have not yet picked a company for my internship that's coming up. I really want to go deep sea but can't decide if I want to go to UNOLS/NOAA or the SIU route. How do you like go from ship to ship so far? Getting new crew members every time/learning a new ship every time etc...
Well according to some of the engineers on my ship they say with noaa you get to do a lot of fun stuff but the living conditions and money aren’t really that great and I’m bias im gonna say siu every time but you could also try meba i think that’s how it’s spelled lol but once you become a licensed member you can go there or Amo
And as far as going from ship to ship and getting to know the crew it’s ok it’s nothing special to be honest once you start to get into maybe your second week everything starts to go a little more smoothly

Lol you good and I make 7500 a month with 12hrs of penalty a week and 4 hours of ot everyday on top of weekend ot and I been out here for almost 3 in a half months I’m bout to get off tho next month
Honestly I was flat broke lol I had a job before I went to the program i was working at McDonald’s/ Amazon I saved up enough to get all my stuff once I got to the program tho I had to rely on my fam and the 40 dollars every 2 weeks they give you but since your fresh out of high school tho you shouldn’t have to many bills after you do your 4 months tho you should be good my best advice is when you get on your phase 2 ship don’t splurge save it until you get on you phase 4 ship then you can splurge

You guys get any people a bit older coming into the apprenticeship? I'm in my 30s looking for a new career but not sure if this is more a young person's game only.
It is most definitely a lot of fresh out of high school kids there but there are also a lot of older ppl the oldest person I met there was like 60 but it really ranges from 18-35 is the majority
Hey you guys if you stayed until the end of the video I did a little mini tour of my ship (the gym, laundry room, and the mess where we eat )
What department is better engineering or deck? Am trying to decide
