It’s very frustrating to me as a South African that “feeding the starving kids in Africa” is a marketing ploy but then we can’t even buy these products because it’s sold through Sephora who doesn’t sell to us. Please don’t use us for your marketing
As a South African also, I think that's a really damaging perspective to have. "Don't help people who need help because I, a South African who doesn't need assistance, doesn't need help and won't benefit from that help". You do know there are actually starving children in Africa so why would you be apposed to them receiving help, regardless of how it's gotten... It's really self centred.
@@PHlophe hmmm, let me contemplate that proposal for a moment... Nah, the answer is still no. Also, great use of the Nazi thing considering my last name. Whatta zinger. You should take that stand up performance on the road, where it belongs.

Exactly re: donating directly to charities. I won’t buy and have little or no interest in H. I think his line is also everything but selfless. It speaks volumes of his hubris.
Because donating directly is too inconvenient and a hurdle and only a fraction of the population does that or works voluntary. Donating indirectly by buying product you‘d get either way is easier. Psychology 😉
Or just didn’t exist we don’t need more skincare brands At least if the products were like super super innovative why not but it’s not the case If he really cared that much about the earth he could just have raised money to help it rather than creating a skincare brand that no matter how ethical it is it’s going to create waste and pollution…
Instead of giving to charities (although admirable) I would be more interested in a brand that is quantifiably carbon neutral or has zero non-biodegradable waste/ or zero packaging waste altogether.
as a poc, i don’t think i will spend my money on this brand. the promotional video and marketing of this brand give off white saviour vibes. it feels like the missionaries who visit to manipulate the natives of a country and since hyram is ex-mormon he should have known better. also, the way they used the clips of people in africa as a marketing tactic didn’t sit well me.
Same... it's humiliating imo. Why do they always have to portray Africans like they're some sort of cute endangered animal? They're people like you and me and they don't need some rich white guy's fake sympathy.
This company made me unsubscribe from Hyram because of the PR. The green washing, white saviorism, and use of using third world counties as images to make people feel good about buying this while at the same time not making the products available in countries in Africa made me lose all respect for hyram
Yeah and Triple the price of Everything else on the Inkey List website smh This Crap is over priced and he's definitely green washing, plus how much of a percentage is being donated to the 2 foundations?? I don't think he said..... I wonder why smh
Bingo! Most of his fans are too young to be financially stable, or even have jobs. I still wish him well, but this is obviously a hypocritical, poorly thought out money grab.
Rich parents - my middle class parents got me one Neutrogena soap and a visit to my GP for acne when I was in high school. Anything else I had to save for, and forget a dermatologist! They said I'd grow out of it. I finally did.
True.. No offense.. But tbh.. If you have a large company.. You can just directly donate some of your revenue to charities without using marketing tactics for you to obtain money
That's not exactly how tax deductions work. Usually donating part of the profits is simply marketing. You either get more people to buy the products or they'll be willing to pay more for the product and this will increase your profit by a higher amount than the donations are. You might give away 10% of profits but if this increases profits by e.g. 30% you're still making a net profit
To be honest, I’ve unsubscribe hyram after he launched his brand. No doubt there a great message behind this brand but because I remember how he used to bash the other brands for having over priced product for simple formula and then he shows up his own brand with the pretty same motive.
He also made a rant video about humanitarian and white saviorism but then make a promotional video about black children's poverty to build his brand's image and boost sale, didn't sit well with me😕
@@bleu9396 the whole thing was one disgusting manipulative tactic after the other. Unfortunately he has a younger audience and just like the James Charles stans, they don’t care one bit if he’s using them or not. They will defend him to the end.
It's funny how Hyram went from bashing brands for not having the advertised active on top of the incilist to doing the exact same in his products 👀 Was so turned off by the promo and the green washing of these products that i ended up unsubscribing. How do you go from promoting budget friendly brands to making your own brand which is so expensive when your audience is literally teens to young adults. The irony 😭
At those prices… might as well get the really nice Korean skincare products he raves about. Korean skincare really is on top of the game (although I’m still loving Paula’s Choice BHA soooooooo much).
I've never been able to watch more than two minutes of his adverts, as I just find them so pretentious and self-serving and cliche, but I've heard plenty of people talk about the whole "white savior" complex. Sorry, but sending a few pennies (if they even do that, they haven't stated a set amount they'll donate, only a "we aspire to hit X amount") from a $200 purchase isn't going to save starving African children. More feel-good jargon trying to be a hit with young children.
I can donate to a charity without Hyram keeping a portion as a middle man. Using donations as a major marketing point, calling it selfless, going against their own skincare principles... is repulsive.
Here's the thing tho. Im assuming you buy skin care products and will continue to do so. I'd rather buy a product that takes some of the profit and donates it
@@michRobalino yeah but why not just buy a skincare product and donate yourself? he's only donating 10% which if you do the maths is not even 0.50$ on a 30$ product and you're basically paying his taxes as well (bc in that way he's avoiding taxes) if you want to donate just donate yourself and you'll know that the money will go there instead of just trusting someone on the internet lol
That’s a completely valid point, I once saw a story about how when you donate to charities promotions through corporations (example when grocery stores do charity drives at the register) you’re just helping financing their tax write off … and it hit me, holy crap this person is absolutely right.
@@michRobalino you could buy cheaper products like cerave and just donate to a charity that way the money is directly going to the charity and not hyrams bank
You can do both. I think it's geared more towards the audience of people who don't donate regularly. If hyram was saying stop donating to ur fave charities and rely on these products alone, that would be fcked up. And yes they all benefit from avoiding taxes but at the end of the day, the small donation of each product adds up with the huge amount of sales.. and *people who don't care about donating and will probably never donate in their lives won't even know they're contributing a few cents to a donation* Idk about u but I think that's worth it. I think about it as extra donations those charities probably weren't going to have
Honestly, Paula's choice and Korean products pack a better punch than SBH. I would continue to use the skin care products that already work for me and then donate to charity.
@Lynn Taylor Would you mind sharing the alternatives to Paula's Choice? I have been looking for alternatives to PC products, ever since Unilever acquired it. If the prices go up and the brand is no longer cruelty free, I wouldn't use PC again.

as a pharmacist/toxicologist/safety assessor I am not a fan of this brand for many reasons, first they changed the formula on the website without telling why (i have sereen shot proof) and i even asked in comments and in Dm on Instagram (still no answer), second i know hyram is a big advocate for no fragrances but in some of his product he used Benzyl alcohol which is considered a fragrance, and the product is marketed fragrance free, then the first product that contains "rainbow algae" according to his phenoxyethanol trick anything comes after phenoxyethanol is lower than 1% and his star ingredient the "rainbow algae" is under 1% and to be effective according to the supplier study it should be above 1.5%, plus he did the same as the inkeylist with succinic acid labeled as the active but not, rainbow algae extract won't be the ingredient that brightening the skin but actually tranexamic acid that exist but didn't have the spotlight, all of this is so shady in my opinion. One more thing, if you are so cautious about environment in my opinion it's better not to lunch a skincare brand.
He's a bit misleading he will say he uses 3% Centella Asiatica but it is a complex and the actual amount is much lower. And with the Rainbow Algae his website states 1.5% Rainbow Algae Complex (0.15% Rainbow Algae extract):

Regardless of the great message behind this line, the fact that the product is overpriced (even if half goes towards donation), most people will probably buy it as a one time purchase to support him but I don’t think sales will sustain in the long run. The market is already saturated with great products that are good, cheaper and also green friendly.
@@tinasung3814 the fact that they hiked up all the prices instead of being willing to absorb any of the costs of more sustainable materials is really telling imo. Absolutely not selfless in the slightest
Lol. Half. The figure quoted is 10% and that is not even garunteed. They cleverly use terms like "we are determined to give...." Also, when talking about the donations they talk about projects that will deliver 60 community water projects that will provide clean water for 50 years, but Hyrams brand isn't doing that, that's the charities pledge, he will simply donate a sum *towards* it. It makes it sound as if Selfless will be providing those 60 water projects instead of just helping with a donation. Their donation may only be enough to pay 1 out of 60 of the water projects, or half of one!
They only said they had the "ambition" to donate 10%. They didn't actually commit to a set % So no, we don't even know how much, if anything, is going to the "charity partners".
I checked to see how much is it on sephora and I would never pay that much for half less moisturiser and cleanser I already use which are even a few bucks cheaper
I unfollowed Hyram awhile ago. I couldn't put up with his misinformation, undisclosed sponsorships, and his haughty overdramatic attitude. Though I did still admire his views on sustainability and humanitarian work. But now I don't even think he's being truthful about that. It all seems like a marketing ploy to me.

I dont know anything aboit formulations, so I can't comment on that. HOWEVER, the recyclability claims turned me off from using these products, I work in the resource recovery industry and claiming that 'bio based' plastics are recyclable is quite misleading and goes against all the efforts that waste educators do, when consumers find out this type of packaging is not getting recycled, we are the ones who need to clean up the mess and re-educate them on the reasons why and how it doesn't apply to all packaging. I really hope I'm wrong and that the company consulted with the waste industry and performed tests for collection, sorting and re-processing in the places where these products are being sold that backs up those claims.
The name of the brand itself is just cringey to me. “Selfless”, and using it as something to “spark social change”. If Hyram really intends to make a difference in at least one person’s life, he would do what Pewds do, donate from the earnings of his streams and not make an ad out of it and use Africa as the backdrop.
@@rosefamilia3169 Agreed. You can easily tell someone who purely has good intentions versus someone who’s trying to act like one. @Scarlet Baxter True. The intro on his ad “I don’t want to create a skincare line unless it sparks a social change.” but only 10% goes to charities (the 10% is not even guaranteed). As if his skincare line was born out of the necessity to make a difference in the world.

Most big companies donate to charities, its a good tax break, he's doing no different but making it part of his whole brand image to drive sales. You could make your own 4 step regime from other existing derm recommended products containing higher levels of actives, give $20 a month to charity and *still* save yourself $40 or so a month. I also think the name is awful. Putting his initial in the selfless name as well as 'by Hyram' makes it all about him, which is fine, its his collab, butit's just not in line with the idea of selflessness! The shots of smiling black kids whose lives he's going to improve, (with your money,) is also a bit iffy after his whole rant about white saviorism.
You just said everything I was thinking. The name is simply embarrassing, and the green washing and white saviourism of it all made me finally unsubscribe from his channel.
Cetaphil, LRP, Vaseline, CeraVe, etc., if you’re watching, I would buy your cleansers and moisturizers (sunscreens too if possible?) in my own containers from tubs at the drug store as a zero-waste option. No need for gimmicky charitable donations etc. I just want basic zero-packaging, carbon neutral products.
I have bought from a company called Au natural from NZ. You can buy a recyclable aluminium bottle full with product and then you get bio degradable pouches with the products to refill. Or you can just buy the refill pouches. It's a great idea and the few products I've used are lovely for the skin. 🌻
I want more "normal" products with low waste options in general. Aluminum anti perspirant, normal lotion, fluoride toothpaste, etc. Waiting for big companies to catch on.
Not going to purchase this for a few reasons, specifically Hyram’s ongoing issue with fragrance and essential oils as he rips brands for adding them in their products yet he added them in his. The whole selfless theme gives me creepy vibes simply because he is speaking as if he is giving so much to charity yet it is only 10% and the Ad that is provided for this brand have a theme of white savior. In addition, he complains so much about over pricing and small packaging, yet he is doing the same. I would respect him more if he was not so much of a hypocrite. I saw his other UA-cam Friends rave about his products and never mention these flaws. I am glad you at lease attempt to provide an honest review.
Not sure where you are getting your info re: fragrance and essential oils in his products. There definitely aren’t any. I actually purchased the whole line to try, and have studied the ingredients list, and the products are definitely essential oil and fragrance free. There are moisturizing oils, but no fragrant oils.
@@queencoIumbina That makes sense, but that is very different. Using effective ingredients that happen to be mildly natural fragrant is definitely not the same as adding fragrance or essential oils. I am extremely sensitive to scent or fragrance and his products don't bother me at all.
Genuine question: what percentage did you expect to be donated? I mean there are plenty of employees behind his products that have to get their salary so I‘m wondering what would‘ve been okay in this case- also to be taken into consideration: his products are not that pricey imo when taking into account that he donates a percentage to two causes and considering that his products are easy to recycle and have good ingredients- wishing you a great day!
Fun fact, he used the channel he said it was going to be used for charity and other stuff I can't remember. He used that channel to promote those products... Kinda shady
I am soooo relieved to see these comments. I tried commenting on one of Hyram’s video because I felt like the comment section there was just blindly in love with everything and saying that they’d buy every product just because it’s Hyram. I love all of you!
Out of all the hypocrisy in this brand, calling it "selfless" is probably the most irritating. If he were being selfless, he would use his influence to campaign for already existing, larger brands to become more sustainable. He'd advocate for people to use simple, affordable products and donate the money they save to these kinds of causes. Instead he gets a tax break on unnecessarily expensive products, and gets praise for doing things other brands have been doing for years. One more brand donating 10% of their profits (IF they follow through on that "ambition") and using sugar cane plastic is not going to change the industry. But he sure looks good for making such a big deal out of it.
I think the ethical sourcing is good though. Living in a 3rd world country, it makes me happy when brands try to make sure the raw materials they use are being sourced without child labour and exploitation

FINALLY an honest review that actually addressed some of the problems with the brand. One cannot simply review the products and ignore the numerous issues surrounding. They are inextricably linked. Nor can one reasonably claim to have seen significant improvements in a week. One of my favorite SkinTubers claimed the retinol made his skin better in under a week. That’s not even possible. He also failed to comment on even a single problem with the brand. It was so disheartening. I almost unsubscribe. I respect this review from you. if this is targeted to beginners in their teens and early twenties who don't know a lot about skincare and the science behind it, the problem still is the high price point that fails to target this audience. Especially if people don't know a lot about certain ingredients, they won't be willing to pay 20 to 30$ for just one product. Let alone people in this age range don't have that money to spend freely.
This is what Hyram has been working towards for years. It was never about being honest or helping people, it was about obtaining an audience and creating his own line to make as much money as possible. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, but I cannot stand when influencers pretend to care about the environment or others when all they really care about are the numbers in their bank account. Don’t get me started on the name. Are you kidding me? What is Selfless about this? Are you giving up all of your profits to help others? No. Are you giving the product away for free to people who need it? No. It’s not selfless. It’s the opposite.
If he really wants to use selfless name so bad it would have been wayy better if he instead created some kind of product/bundles and named it selfless edition where 100% of the profit went to charity. That way there is no bullshit and less complicated. I feel like the way SBM brand is the way it is now bc it's complicated to manage a brand AND trying to make it sustainable human and nature resources (which is why many brands just don't do that). They had to cut a lot of corner and the result is well, a mess. Hyram is a good person, I believe he is still, but too ambitious and by the end he forgot what he was originally aiming for.
But his fans actually ask him to make a line too. So both sides honestly. Like buying to support him, yes. But to pay that much for his name, no. 😂 me stick with TO and IKList. If I have more money, I could invest in Skinceutical or something like that. Not a brand from influencers.

The criticism that I have read and wholly agree with is saying this whole thing is very much white knighting. Even the name, I have some feelings about. Hyram, who already is a white person living in Hawaii, made some very interesting (uncomfortable) choices with the b role in his ad videos. Additionally, from what I know, recycling bioplastics is *incredibly* difficult and rare, often you need to send it to a very specific facilty. Maybe he found some bioplastic I don't know, but yeah. It would have been nice to see literally any certifications behind this - certified zero waste facilty, b corp, certified fair trade, ANYTHING to back up his very, very big claims. 😕 even just being part of 1% for the planet! That would automatically provide transparency with actual proof, as opposed to all of his big claims of donating to 'save the planet'. Overall, I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't from Hyram, therefore, I am not buying it. Also, the inkey list has horrible transparency and no info on sustainability that I can find anywhere. He could have partnered with a truly sustainable company, like Plaine products. But did this instead, and I am not impressed sadly.

I'm from Romania and even though I was extremely grateful that Hyram's skincare line was available to us so early through Sephora, it is so expensive that buying his entire skincare is almost equivalent to our minimum wage. I was so excited to buy his products and I expected them to be as affordable as Cerave, which is very cheap even in Romania, only to find out I have to save money for a month to be able to buy one of his products.
I really wish he had started his own e-commerce site instead of yet another skin care line. I’m sure that is t where the big money is but I would have loved a one stop shop for hyram approved products.
This would have been a perfect idea and he would have still made loads of money. I ran a skincare forum that was sponsored (they paid for the forum software/maintenance) by a skincare reseller. Depending on the brand, the mark up was on average 50-75%. That is just the wholesale to retail mark-up. The manufacturer/formulator/etc. are still making more that that. It is mind boggling how cheap it actually is to produce most skincare products.
They could make profit and still donate the money with less pricing that is what i am most disappointed with . I have been following Hyram literally from the day 1 and I am sad that he did the exact same thing he used to criticize.

Nobody knows because Hyram refuses to be transparent and the website is very inconsistent. I'm certain $0.5 from some products goes to the thirst project but other than that we don't really have numbers. They're claimed their "ambition" is to donate 10% of their profits but that's textbook corporate speech for "we want to hike up our prices and benefit from green marketing without sacrificing any of our yacht money". If they actually had an intention of donating that much, they'd have said they *will*.
It's manipulative marketing. He harps on about how you're supporting X social cause by buying his products. If I wanted to support a cause, I'd donate my time or money directly to that, not some product. He's appealing to pathos of people wanting to be virtuous/generous by telling them they can only do that by using his expensive products.
@@meganz020 ok, but which one? For how long? How they are going help? For instance, they say that they want to help with water treatment, but, until foreign companies decided to do a lobby and buy the public ones (not to mention a lot of money from corruption), we had water in good condition (the problem was with distribution), better than USA for exemple. But they got sold, and the price sky rocket, and now people can't pay. So are they helping us taking back our water, or are they financial helping the people who steal from us? Just saying that they're helping without saying how is suspicious (and if they never ending helping, they can say that it was the intention, but, you know, crises of some kind).
So in a nutshell, another hyped skinfluencer came out with his own skin line that does the same basic thing every other skin care line does....just smaller. These youtubers need to stop.
Thank you for the honest review! I am really happy for Hyram, but these products are not for me. That being said, I think it is a bit of a copout to say "well this isn't perfect but nothing is perfect!" It really seems most concerns stem from a lot of these things being contrary to statements Hyram has made in the past. I doubt anyone expects it to be perfect, but I do worry about fans blindly going all in for these products, and I worry about the image created for these products.
I dont like this product but it is his first try u cant expect the best. In terms of ingredients there are not bad but in the industry noone is thoughtful much when it comes to disabilities.
Cassandra, thank you for a thorough and honest review. I've been reading about and watching content about Hyram's new line and from all I've seen and learned, it's a hard pass for me. It seems like he had good intentions, but the execution has been less than impressive. You, on the other hand, remain awesome. Thank you!!
in my opinion Hyram really missed one huge problem in the beauty industry- testing on animals. he fights for the eco system but unlike cassandra he doesnt mention the cruelty at all. The way humans treat animals is a major issue in climate change as well. I would be soo happy if at least one of his products would focus on this issue and would donate to charities that fight for animal rights.
I think that he has passed the cost of the donations onto the consumer, hence the price of the products. Which is disappointing and defeats the purpose of supporting the brand. I already donate to charities and buy lots of my products locally so don't see how purchasing a product from the other side of the world is helping the environment.. it would be more revolutionary if he and the company bared the cost of the donations and kept the consumer cost minimal. In my opinion anyway
This brand is a good candidate for a video “The truth nobody will tell you about Selfless by Hyram”. And join the legends of the series like Drunk Elephant, Sunday Riley, Mario Badescu, etc. Greenwashing, selfishness, tax exemptions disguised as donations to charities...
I disagree with your comments that lack of transparency is due to trade secrets. That is not an excuse. Sustainability without transparency is greenwashing. Especially not disclosing the donation amounts. If your advertisements are going to use a heavy amount of little black faces you need to be real specific what your products are actually doing to help those people.
I'm the odd one out, but I've never thought hyrem was amazing, in fact calling himself a skin specialist annoys me... He is a sales person for a brand. That doesn't give you the knowledge to be an expert. This being so lack lustre really doesn't surprise me.
Now we see why he tirelessly is promoting the inkey list.😒 Although I would use any of the inkey lists products over these overpriced items. But this has me questioning why did the inkey list do this? As a quick cash grab with how popular hyram is as a face to sell product but also using the whole gen z cares about the environment so let's market the sustainable aspect towards them as well. Total irony and contradictory to what hyrams always preaching about on his channel🙄 I'm done with his channel completely.
@@yasdnil_ right now every brand is taking advantage of the new generations it started with millennials. I have fallen for it too. And im realizing the past 5 years ive expended so much money without realizing it. Even the government in my country used the LGBT community to promote our city as gay friendly. Its actually friendly towards the community and made posters including all the community but it was only done because they realized lgbt community brings money to the city. It has its pros and cons.
Same here! I watched one or two of his videos and haven't been able to stand him since. His personality was so off putting to me, and his advice really wasn't anything groundbreaking.
It's only green washing if it's not actually helping the environment as is claimed. He's said the impact is fully traceable so we'll be able to analyse in full how much this has helped in about a year. We'll see if it lives up to the claim
"If it's made for everyone, is it really for anyone?" Thank you so much for putting this into words. This was my main worry while watching all the launch videos. I'm glad to hear your perspective about this point.
the same old question, why sustainability has to be 100% more expensive compare to The Inkey list product, in Australia the cheapest product is $33 (cleanser), the highest is $48 (retinol), if this is for his audience then it's 4 white kids who got money.
@@aleksap5459 unfortunately 0.2% retinol is soooo mild that i highly doubt it will work. Not to mention that its encapsulated and the amt which is converted is likely even more negligibles
@@llamaliammm Yeah exactly, I'd rather pay more for an actual potent concentration. Encapsulated retinol in this serum will be so useless lmao, not impressed with Hyram over this tbh
In Australia I can get a tube of differin gel with no prescription for $27, that gives me enough left iver to buy a nice soothing or brightening serum to use alongside it for the price of just his retinol serum.
Thanks for the review! I won’t purchase though, I dislike the white savior complex Hyram seems to be demonstrating, what rubbed me the wrong way was the use of “Maracuja” like it’s going to be empowering, it’s pretty much passion fruit, as a Latin American I’ve noticed American companies rarely ever empower our communities, but they market they do. And they benefit from using our languages to market things as exotic and interesting. The irony of using “selfless” as a brand name only highlights his arrogance. I also dislike the packaging, it’s definitely boring and very similar to the Coola packaging. The price point is too expensive for his audience as well, specially for such small products. I don’t like the fact that he has built his platform by criticising people, particularly women, a shadiness for using something that he dislikes, that I don’t enjoy. His Cerave secretive sponsorship, the fact that he rarely ever shows himself using the products he recommends. I won’t support Hyram. Thank you Cassandra for being honest with us.
I don’t understand everyone hopping on the bandwagon saying “white saviour” if he were to do nothing at all people would be mad, but when he tries to make change it’s an issue? What are people supposed to do when nothing ever good enough?
@@David-zj1ji it’s the way he goes about it, the stock images of Africa in his commercials, the “ambition” to donate, the selfless title for the brand. One person’s intuition and analysis could be wrong but hundreds of people have similar thoughts about the brand and Hyram. So if you feel his efforts are good enough for you that’s okay, not everyone will think the same.
Thank you for giving an honest review and discussing how the products worked on your skin (I’ve seen so many vague overviews where it wasn’t even clear if the person had used the product for a period!) and not being intimidated by his fan base. @@pokemontas8025 I suffer from tremors and reduced motor function on my hands and would be unable to use these products. It’s a real problem that real people have to deal with. It’s not a matter of being “mean.” It’s about regular everyday people being able to use it.
@@pokemontas8025 for a brand that claims to be soooooo socially conscious, and claims to be “made for everyone”, it seems like a pretty ableist oversight. Even for someone like me who’s mainly physically able, there’d be days where I couldn’t squeeze those tubes if my tendonitis was acting up. I hate to think how hard it would be to handle for someone with arthritis, or any disorder that affects grip strength or motor stability. Also, for that price, you’d think they’d consider a more effective dosing system.
The definition "affordable" should always be coupled with the amount of product you get. Aaaaaanddddd Selfless is NOT affordable. It's in the medium to high price range. The cleanser is 20€ for 150ml, I can get the Soon Jung 5.5 cleanser, which is REALLY good and is 150ml as well, for 6€. So yeah, the intentions are good and all, but together with donating to charities and help the environment, the brand should allow almost everyone to purchase its products if it's branded as "affordable" by being a byproduct of The Inkey List.
Yes! I love the Soon Jung cleanser too. I live here in the Philippines, and sellers who get their products directly from South Korea would often sell lower than $6 on monthly online sales.
The prices of SBH seem similar to or a even bit cheaper than First Aid Beauty and Paula's Choice, neither of which people seem to have problems with. I think the issue here is that Hyram always emphasized that good skin care can be very affordable and his skin care line does not reflect that value.
I honestly have never really followed him since he started calling himself a “specialist” when he has no qualifications or experience in skin care. Only dermatologists are “specialists” for skin. This is what happens when someone who uses google to get their research and form opinions tries to create a skincare line and the ingredients contradict him because he doesn’t understand formulations and compounding I guess lol.
Why is no one talking about the audio, there's this horrible static hiss. I'm 90 seconds in, listening with headphones, and I don't think I can watch the rest. Which is disappointing, cause it sounded like this was gonna be a legit honest review.

Love Hyram but this isn’t it and calling the line “selfless” sounds pretentious and self absorbed. I feel bad for feeling this way but I have to be honest 😢 will still support his content.(edit: I don’t like the packaging 😢)
Maracujá in Portuguese, Maracuyá in Spanish, it's just passion fruit. The website says the maracuyá is sourced from my country (Peru) but they won't sell the products here. Anyway, my derm told me that maracuyá seed oil is very good for hyperpigmentation so I have a litre bottle that costs one tenth of Hyram's cream and is also sustainably sourced from my country people of the Amazon 🙂
I mean yeah use your money to build a brand but don't sell it by saying it's not for your pocket and just for the benefit of the world. Business is a business, and its primary goal is profit. There's nothing selfless about a business.
Cass, you are first true review I ever saw. First I saw Dr. Doctorly then Welsh now you. I was wondering if Hyram would have send you and Dr. Dray samples like he did for Doctorly and Welsh. I trust YOU and Dr. Dray. ❤️❤️🙏 I am staying with my basic skincare and sunscreen.
I had the exact same experience with Hyrams products. I am sad. I broke out in a red rash all over my cheeks. I had to return the products. I am not alone. Thanks Cassandra for this honest review.
Personally I have the most problem with the name and the fact that a lot of his critisism of other brands could be applied to his own which makes him seem hypocritical. I think because of the critisism he has sent other brands' way people also hold his brand to a higher standard compared to non-influencer brands, which I think is fair. And honestly if anyone should be able to take critisism it should be him since he has no problem doing it to other brands. Anyway, I appreciate your review it seemed very genuine!
Maracujá is literally passion fruit in Brazilian Portuguese (indigenous brazillian word, tupi-guarani) The pronunciation of the "j" is not like in Spanish...
Right!? Like ugh that bothered me so much it’s literally just passion fruit but he’s sticking with the foreign name to make it sound interesting and exotic. So opportunistic.
Passion fruit (lat. forma edulis) and maracuja (lat. forma flavicarpa) are not the same thing. They come from the same botanical family but are different fruits.

@Scarlet Baxter True. The intro on his ad “I don’t want to create a skincare line unless it sparks a social change.” but only 10% goes to charities (the 10% is not even guaranteed). As if his skincare line was born out of the necessity to make a difference in the world.

Not sure where you are getting your info re: fragrance and essential oils in his products. There definitely aren’t any. But he sure looks good for making such a big deal out of it.

if this is targeted to beginners in their teens and early twenties who don't know a lot about skincare and the science behind it, the problem still is the high price point that fails to target this audience.

Hey you're not missing out on anything... His line is shady and ineffective...so you'd be better off not wasting your time and money on his line!
I really wish he had started his own e-commerce site instead of yet another skin care line. I’m sure that is t where the big money is but I would have loved a one stop shop for hyram approved products.
That would've been a good idea actual!

How is this line going to help fight climate change? Apart from the donations that are being made to those NPOs?
Edit: I added "fight".
It's not. It's a marketing tactic.
It explains it on their website - they’re donating to certain organizations that help fight these social issues.

It seems like he had good intentions, but the execution has been less than impressive. You, on the other hand, remain awesome. Thank you!!
Hyram is really out there acting like starting a new skincare brand is selfless and sustainable 🙄🤢
in my opinion Hyram really missed one huge problem in the beauty industry- testing on animals. he fights for the eco system but unlike cassandra he doesnt mention the cruelty at all.
Omg yes
I disagree with your comments that lack of transparency is due to trade secrets. That is not an excuse. Sustainability without transparency is greenwashing. Especially not disclosing the donation amounts. If your advertisements are going to use a heavy amount of little black faces you need to be real specific what your products are actually doing to help those people.
Sooooo long story short, it is an overpriced product that an influencer slapped his name on. Good to know.
No, you’re not the only one. I didn’t click with his videos from the get go
@@yasdnil_ right now every brand is taking advantage of the new generations it started with millennials.
Same, never thought he really knew all that much about skincare
Same here! I watched one or two of his videos and haven't been able to stand him since. His personality was so off putting to me, and his advice really wasn't anything groundbreaking.
It is very expensive for what it is and the green washing is incredible
It's only green washing if it's not actually helping the environment as is claimed. He's said the impact is fully traceable so we'll be able to analyse in full how much this has helped in about a year. We'll see if it lives up to the claim
half of the products have salicylic acid and niacinamide. It is literally better to buy a serum of those ingredients.
"If it's made for everyone, is it really for anyone?"
Thank you so much for putting this into words.
Exactly, skincare in Aus prices are so expensive. That being said I’d rather pay an extra $30 for a retinol product that actually works lol
Wow that’s expensive! 😥
How about the ordinary? Do you guys get it there? And if yes are they expensive as well?
As your acne big sister (I'm in my 40s) I appreciate your honest review!
Hyram gives off major “if people have to tell you constantly how great they are, they’re probably not that great”
Thanks for the review!
This is written so well - completely agree. Thanks for sharing 😊
I understand being frustrated that no matter what ones does we can never please everyone, but many many people are upset about this. One person’s intuition and analysis could be wrong but hundreds of people have similar thoughts about the brand and Hyram. So if you feel his efforts are good enough for you that’s okay, not everyone will think the same.
@@meganm7973 thank you so much!
thank you for your full honesty, Cassandra!! We know that we can trust you so it’s good to hear your thoughts on this
Thank you for giving an honest review and discussing how the products worked on your skin (I’ve seen so many vague overviews where it wasn’t even clear if the person had used the product for a period!) and not being intimidated by his fan base. I think you were perfectly fair and I hope no one jumps down your throat for not just mindlessly gushing!
That packaging is really inaccessible to people who struggle with grip strength or general motor skills in their hands.
........really.......🙄🙄🙄
the colours of the products are really mean to people who are sensitive to those colours....hey look I found something to be offended about too!
Thanks for pointing this out. My brother (with special needs) will stop using it first day.
@@pokemontas8025 The way YOU got offended by someone just stating a fact. Lol!!
While I know Cassandra is close to Hyram, I know she will be honest with her opinions unlike some of Hyram's good friends so I watch!
His job title is skincare specialist lol
Why is no one talking about the audio, there's this horrible static hiss. I'm 90 seconds in, listening with headphones, and I don't think I can watch the rest. Which is disappointing, cause it sounded like this was gonna be a legit honest review.
Omg Yes!! I seriously thought there was something wrong with my headphones.
Lol didn't notice it til you pointed it out
I swear! It is so hard to watch this video!
Thanks noticed it right away too
This review is gold. Straight to point and so informative.
does everyone hear that annoying buzz/static in the back of the video? MY EARSSSS and head, ugh.......clicked as soon as i saw this, though, lmao, was like "let's see how brutal it really is"...i have yet to watch james' video, but i don't expect anything but love from him (note: i don't hate james, lolol, in fact he's my favorite "skinfluencer" and the only one whose videos i watch on a regular basis/every upload; it was the same with beauty within, but i've been lazy in regards to bothering with a bunch of different things lately, so i'm behind on their vids, still like them though!), just cuz he's friends or whatever with hyram, so...somewhat understandable, but i'll find out once i watch it, i suppose
Yep, I got the buzzing noise too! Made it through to the end but the noise was terrible
@@quantumwombat I'm soldier-ing through out of genuine interest to see how brutal she gets, but it definitely sucks 🥲 gonna pop an advil or 2 in a bit, lmfao

@@melissaoliver9072 WORSE!! cicadas are annoying, but this is just PAINFUL (I LITERALLY have a headache now...9 min left in the video)
Same! A few of her uploads the couple of weeks have had it.
shocking that the guy who talked about regretting his ~humanitarian~ white savior work appealed to white savior heart strings to market his product
i’ve been looking for this comment… unfortunately i don’t think many people have seen that video of his
Who would've thunk!
Cassandra, I don’t understand the science you’re explaining bc I’m dumb but I could sit here and watch HOURS of you talk about skincare and the science behind it because you’re just that great
I won't be purchasing anything from this line, he contradicts himself so much that I can't trust him.
I feel like that is what happens when your channel grows too fast, his opinions and approaches didn't have a chance to develop with time and it ends up being messy, contradictory and rushed.
So true! That’s why I stopped watching and unsubscribed from his channel.
The face wash seemed promising
I get upset when a product is 1oz and more than $20. I would buy these products if they had more to them.
Love Hyram but this isn’t it and calling the line “selfless” sounds pretentious and self absorbed. I really wanted to try the skincare line when he announced it but after seeing it I’m not as excited. I feel bad for feeling this way but I have to be honest 😢 will still support his content.(edit: I don’t like the packaging 😢)
I feel the exact same way!
@@starlight1818 I feel bad but it’s like come on Hyram
There's nothing selfless about a business.
i like the inkey list, i dont care for hyram its basically an influencer cash grab
Cass, you are first true review I ever saw. First I saw Dr. Doctorly then Welsh now you. I was wondering if Hyram would have send you and Dr. Dray samples like he did for Doctorly and Welsh.
I trust YOU and Dr. Dray. ❤️❤️🙏
I am staying with my basic skincare and sunscreen.
He did
I had the exact same experience with Hyrams products.
Maracujá is literally passion fruit in Brazilian Portuguese (indigenous brazillian word, tupi-guarani)
The pronunciation of the "j" is not like in Spanish...
In Spanish we say Maracuyá so we don’t say the jota (j) but the softer sound instead
Right!? Like ugh that bothered me so much it’s literally just passion fruit but he’s sticking with the foreign name to make it sound interesting and exotic. So opportunistic.
@@danielaaguilar8897 it's not that deep
Passion fruit (lat. forma edulis) and maracuja (lat. forma flavicarpa) are not the same thing. They come from the same botanical family but are different fruits.
