These fish were awesome to catch! This is some of the best fishing video I've captured... visually. Sorry about the poor audio. When I sat down to edit this I was very disappointed in the sound quality due to the massive water flows over the dam. I currently use GoPro Hero 7 silvers that do not accept external microphones. After this episode I'll be shopping for some new action cameras. Overall still a fun watch! Cheers fellow anglers!
Thanks! I am so glad I had that one little jig in my bag, I usually keep one for panfish or something small. I would have been so frustrated watching these schools of fish all around me and not having anything to catch them with. Cheers Sean!
Thanks Dug and totally improvised, just happened to be at the right place and time and also had a bait to catch them. I'll definitely be keeping a selection of smaller baits with me no matter what I am targeting because who knows what will show! Cheers
They can be good eating fish for sure. I was targeting walleye this day and I did keep those to eat. I wasn't expecting the whitefish to be there so I had no plans to keep any. They were simply a fun bonus catch this day. Cheers
Oh yeah I've caught them on these jigs before. They have a pretty tough mouth. These fish get big eating tiny insects so I have a better shot at them taking a tiny tungsten than a jig or spoon. Cheers
Man those was some big white fish man Especially that 25" inches one you caught. I can't believe how small that bait was that was catching those white fish man. That was awesome to see. You said that you can eat white fish but do you know how it Taste? Man i like your PDL kayak man. I like how clean & Simple you have it setup. That's how i am too clean & simple. I want a PDL kayak so bad but I can't get one because I have big very very Extremely wide feet 🦶 sz15 6E wide ( which is very very extremely wide feet 🦶 ) with very chubby fat wide toes that are Evenly straight across making my foot very very Extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe & the pedal are to narrow for my feet 🦶 & my feet 🦶 keep falling off the pedal when trying to pedal it. I also like how you kayak barefooted 👣 man cuz that is how I have to kayak is barefooted 👣 because of how extremely wide my feet 🦶. It's just awesome to see someone doing the same thing that you do too. Good video buddy thanks you for sharing it & Happy new year to you and your family.
Happy New Year! I hope you get a pedal drive yak that suits your big feet! Whitefish meat is high quality. It is one of the fish species commercially fished in parts of Canada. Yeah, they can take a small bait. They eat a lot of small insects. But they will also eat small fish. Cheers
That was an amazing video, so cool to watch very lucky to have the one jig! What Dam is that looks familiar? Close to Ati ? Big boat access or just kayak or small skiff ? Thanks again for posting.
I was super nervous that a pike was going to steal my one and only tiny jig but didn't happen. This is the dam where Calm Lake dumps into Seine River. Not the Crilly dam but the upstream one. The access is rough, I had to put the truck in 4x4 and crawl down to the water. I always see people fishing off the bedrock right at the dam though so there must be a walking trail there further up the road.
Nah, they are closer related to herring. They are just bigger and have a funny mouth designed mostly for eating insects. They are from the same family as our lake herring (aka cisco).

Nice job improvising on the lure. Some great catches.

Some fantastic catches! Great job and good video 👍
Thanks Adrian! It was a pleasant surprise to see them for sure and glad I was able to get a few.
I had no idea they breached like that. So cool! Great catches!
They were grabbing bugs in the foam. I've seen them do this before on the surface of flat waters when the caddis and may flies have hatched.
@differentfins good to know. I've only caught them through ice when they are mid column or on bottom.
Amazing catches! One alone would have been impressive but you pulled in tank after tank. Congrats, bud, that looked fun!

Man, I didn't know whitefish got that big!! Awesome catches. I hear they are good to eat, too?? Thanks for sharing!

Man they fight hard eh!? I caught a nice one last week that was my best fight of 2023
When they decide to go it's hard to stop them
what? that tiny thing caught a giant like that? I was surprised that the hook got him or stayed on. very lucky and well done!

Hi bud, are they a carp fish?
