YH!!!!! and she got bumped at the hand over, I was like daaaaamnnn look at her go lol big up to east africa, it's good to see Kenya going for the short distances...wait till South Sudan invests in athletics, they're sleeping giants, wait till they put up kids in 400-10,000m
I don't really understand why. It would have been great if she could keep that pace up but it's not like she just beat out everyone. The fact is that a bunch of the women were close together so she simply passed those then when it was time to beat the number 2 she slowed down a lot and so she stayed in 3rd.
Right! He said "but they paid for it ". Lol, no they didn't, she held on until she passed the baton. She's the entire reason why they finished strong in 3rd
Why would they? She passed a couple women who were only a little ahead of her, then she seemed to hurt herself or something as she ran weird and couldn't make up any extra distance after that.
The USA simply has an endless conveyer belt of great athletes, just when you think a great one is retiring or injured, a dangerous substitute fits the bill perfectly.
That Kenyan third leg girl, Syombua is her name, has been called the "saviour" of her relay team by her coaches every time she has been included. She's on the flight to Tokyo this summer Olympics!
We're twins and we've watched this video many times. But we always come back to it because its so exciting to watch and Kenya's 3rd leg just so impressive!
Am a Kenyan... I used to be the best in primary and secondary coming to this... But because of being poor, I didn't achieve my dream... I wish to get in touch with this people so that I can join them
ok so I understand relays are strategic and you wanna put the right person at the right leg....but at the same time, I always think...if they’re capable or running a certain time, does the order matter that much? if the 4 legs run say 44, 50, 49, 43.... wouldn’t it pretty much be 3:06 regardless?
The thing is...and this is my guess...they could run the same numbers but if u start off with a time of let's say 50 and everyone else started with a 45 the person that comes after you will have to make up that five seconds to catch up to every other racer and not only that but run even faster to get in the lead....the problem with that is you can't predict if the person after you will be able to pull through and get those 5 seconds back so it's best to out a runner that can run 45 or 40 and get you the lead in the begining and the ending making a fast sandwich
For the most part this is the case. The overall time is just the sum of individual splits. However, teams can lose time on change overs if done poorly. Another consideration is the mental exercise of pacing yourself when you're either chasing a leader or trying to maintain or extend a lead.
Example, Hellen Syombua (Kenya 3rd Leg) bumped into another runner on the change over at 7:04 which would hamper her acceleration yet she still managed to carry Kenya back from 7th to 3rd, she ran an incredible split.
yeah I definitely understand how change overs come into play, the mental game of being the leader/chaser, and everything in between. i’m just looking at it as a straight numbers thing. if one team has men that only run 45 and women that only run 51….the team with 43 second men and 49 second women are gonna win no matter the order (if the baton pass is good).
I think it can be made more exciting by allowing teams to choose a man and woman runner for 2 of the 4 legs, while the runners for the other two legs will be decided by a computer.
Kenya third leg was a beast! She got them back into the race to medal.
INDEED!

Unfortunate how the commentators didn’t give the Kenyan 3rd leg the credit she deserved. What an amazing leg. From 7th to 3rd!🔥🔥
In general they didn't give the Kenyan team much attention
Right! He said "but they paid for it ". Lol, no they didn't, she held on until she passed the baton. She's the entire reason why they finished strong in 3rd
