Yeah sry i don't get people,Road was the same when owl was going and he is some what ok against reaper if he has hook up so Winston on b seems kinda ridiculous to me.
But again high ranked players and pros doing a list means shit i learned from 10years of playing Dota2 after every patch people say x and y is broken or nerfed to hard and it turns out always always differently.
So take it with a grain of salt.

From what I’ve been getting in diamond games with my friends and I’m IGL Winston
We run
Winston
Pharah/Genji and/or Tracer
Moira/Ana
Mercy
We wait for the hog to overextend or get distracted by our gengi or pharah
Mercy, Moira and I dive the back line and wipe em out asap with dmg boost and dps Moira
Then take cart while the dps are entirely just distractions, but still retain value as dps when the enemy team solely focus me while I’m being pocketed and pumped with heals
Personally, it works for me but I’d like to get thoughts on it cuz I wipe the supports with our Moira in 2 seconds and then move onto killing the dps or play objective
The only times I’ve had a hard time is the map variable
I always get confused about tier lists for overwatch. I get that some characters do the same thing but better, but for the most part every character fulfills a different job. Winston can disrupt teams or snipers.
yeah but if he has more counters then it doesnt matter cuz the enemy team will most likely have 2 or more heroes to catch you out
The tier lists show what's good in the current meta. Every hero has their own job they fulfill but not every meta needs that job fulfilled. Winston can very easily dive the backlines but it's not dive meta.

Winston is great is the other team doesn't have a mercy even with a road because you can dive the support, pop a shield and dance in and out to avoid cc and dmg long enough to get a kill.
Unless the road plays like an actual tank is stays on top of their support
But den the monkey just gets shredded by sojourn unless he gets a direct kiriko pocket, which only delays it for a solid 3 seconds.

As a Winston player I actually find it fun to fight a soljorn they're usually fairly easy.
Moira is a menace now thanks to her being able to orb from the backline and get charge for it

Winton has always been a little situational where it becomes apparent if the map and location you're on will allow you to play as well as you hope. He is rather good with a brawler designed team but gets shut down pretty easy if the enemies arent one trick ponies. Moral of the story: learn to play flex so you arent a gddm disappointment

I recently got back into overwatch and picked up Winston. It makes me sad that such a fun dive character is almost useless now. He needs a rework or a small buff honestly. He still good at chasing Squishies but to many get away especially people like sojourn, Lucio, reaper, people like that.
He don't need buff or rework. Meta just is not good for monke. Maybe when hog gets nerfed he will be better
