This is a great video; thank you.
I would recommend that you look at the admissions acceptance rate for the class of 2026 and possibly modify your video, as the admission percentages have dropped dramatically for some of the most competitive majors. The three that come to mind are Grainger (Engineering) which is about 25%, Gies (Business) which is about 27%, and CS which is in the single digits.
Good luck, future Illini!
Hi Mary! Thanks for the comment.
We typically go with the published acceptance rates so that students have a starting point across majors, but we completely agree that these rates are affected by a student's intended major. Unfortunately, this isn't unique to UIUC either; many universities have much lower acceptance rates for the majors you mentioned above. Maybe it's time for a new video on competitive majors and how that affects acceptance rates!
I’m a freshman, with a 3.5 uw and 3.65 weighted gpa with 1 sport and am in a gifted school with having taken 2 ap’s(ap us gov, and copo), I’m just wondering if I am kind of on the track. I should have 4 ap’s next year.
I have a 3.5 Gpa and plan on pursuing a biology major
Hello, I am a rising Junior with a GPA of 3.98 (unweighted) and the same weighted. I anticipate getting nothing less than a 3.8 and potentially rising my gpa to a 4.0. I am studying to get a SAT score of 1450 and nothing under 1400. My extracurriculars so far are 3 different orchestra clubs, I have been concertmaster in my 9th and 10th grade orchestra + extracurricular orchestras 12 times already. I am in State and come from a bigger High school. My awards so far consist of getting Honorary Mention in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition in State. My other extracurriculars consist of NEHS (national English honor society) and I have been the main graphic designer for two different clubs. My interests for what I want to make out of my education in UIUC is finding a way to bring visual art and Computer science together. I plan on majoring in Computer Science only. I also would like to mention I did Girls Who Code in the summer of 2024, and 2025, I also am going to do the girls who code club in both my junior and senior year. Lastly I plan on giving teens and kids from ages 15 and under the opportunity to be a part of a program I am making (for this July and next year (2025 June) to expose them to the world of animation and teach them basic coding for animation with scratch. What do my chances of getting into UIUC computer science look like? I would also like to mention one negative outlier in my transcript, all of my grades are A’s only with 2 B’s (semester) and sadly one D for one semester of a Honors Math class I took in 10th grade, I wouldn’t have gotten the D if I had time to study for the class, I didn’t have time because family from India had come over and my brother had broken his leg so I had to help my parents a lot of the time after school, in the 1st semester of the year I was in the normal level of that math class and got an A.
I'm a IL resident and a junior in hs.
My unweighted gpa is a 3.78 and weighted it's 4.34.
I haven't taken the sat or act, but for the psat I've got 1160 (didnt take it very seriously).
I've taken several honors classes and 7 ap courses (so far, ap euro, ap econ, ap phys, ap calc ab, ap lang, and apush) and got all 4s on the first two.
I've taken several classes aligned to business and technology
I've done debate (research captain), tennis, model un (president + "revived" the club), winter drumline, nhs, link crew (helping incoming students), scholastic bowl, and fbla. (the school doesnt have tech related clubs)
I'm planning to major in Information Systems at the Gies College of Business, what are my chances?
Hi, i recently was accepted to UIUC Grainger for neural engineering and have friends in other majors and believe you'd have a good chance! I say dont worry about the SAT too much unless youre set on doing well (i didnt submit my SAT bc i also didnt take it seriously lol) and definitely make sure to end the year with good grades and good AP scores. Essays are huge too, so if you start brainstorming unique topics rn that could help. If you really wanna go further, you could try strting a club since you said there arent any tech clubs at your school. Good luck!
Hello! My gpa is a 3.8 and SAT score of 1250. I am in interested in Veterinary Medicine there, but I have to major in biology first I believe. What are my chances??
Thanks for reaching out! Your GPA is good for UIUC, but your SAT score is below average for the school. A lot will depend on whether your extracurricular are a match for what the school is looking for.
Mexican/ American (resident of Illinois), 3.7 really good essay, recreation sport and tourism, no sat and good curriculum is rst hard to get into?
Your GPA is below average, which will make your application more challenging, as will the lack of an SAT or ACT. Being an IL resident might give you the bump you need.
Hi! I have an unweighted GPA of 3.68, ACT score 33, and I'm out of state. I really want to major in civil engineering at UIUC, what do my chances look like?
UIUC has said that it's going to drop the number of OOS students it will accept this year. Given that the engineering majors are some of it's top programs, I think you'll find it a challenging application.
How many honors and AP classes should I take in order to have a good chance of getting in to this university?
You'll want to take the honors and AP classes that align well with your major, rather than focusing on an absolute number.
hi, majoring in acting what are my chances?
I graduated from high school in 2022
International student (Brazilian)
my GPA is 3.5
I was always the best in the math club
I've been doing intuitive Olympic gymnastics since I was 10 (I'm currently 18)
I participate in some voluntary work
I study theater and acting
How much do you think I need to score on the SAT and TOEFL to be accepted on a full ride scholarship?
Do I need to have another major before applying?
thank you very much if you answer me!!
Regarding scholarships, it's hard for international students to get full rides at US schools, and UIUC is no exception. I'd encourage you to take a look at UIUC scholarships for students at the College of Fine and Applied Arts here: secure.osfa.illinois.edu/scholarship-database/index.aspx
Many of them are limited to graduate students, so you'd need to get your Bachelor's degree elsewhere before being eligible for them.
Illinois resident, Latino, 3.95 gpa, 27 cumulative act. I got a 31 on math and 23 in English. What are my chances of getting in to computer engineering?
A 27 on the ACT is on the lower bound of UIUC's average range. Being an IL resident will help, but computer engineering is a hard major to get into.
Hi! I’m a junior in high school but haven’t taken any foreign language due to only 2 being available at my school which is French and Spanish, but I’m already very fluent in Spanish. Do you believe I still have a chance of getting accepted? I’m also going to be a first generation college student with a 4.0 gpa on a 4.0 scale, I’m also going to be taking 3 AP classes next year. I wasn’t advised that I needed to take foreign language classes since my parents are immigrants and have no clue how college works and my counselors at school are horrible. Please and thank you!!
Also live in Illinois.
I would email UIUC's admission's office and ask. :) Here is the webpage where you can find their contact information: www.admissions.illinois.edu/contact
3.76 UW GPA
32 ACT (35 on math)
Illinois resident
4 years football
4 years student ambassador
3 years tennis
2 year’s investment club
NHS 2 years
Lifeguard
Scorekeeper at local gym
Majoring in accounting what are my chances?
You've got a below average GPA and an average ACT score. However, given that you're a resident of IL, you have an okay shot at accounting. If you want to make that better, you should try to join more math activities and consider dropping some of the sports.
Permanent Resident of US, live in Illinois GPA of 3.26 completed 9,10,11 grade in india currently completely grade 12 in illinois school. what are my chances
Depends what major you're applying to, but it's not good with a 3.26 GPA. :(
Hey, I would really love to know what you think about my chances
I have a 3.8 GPA
I will go test optional (won’t submit any scores)
I believe I have a great essay that is unique
I have the seal of biliteracy for Spanish
I am an IHSA State finalist for eSports (7th place)
4 years in cross country with 2 of them in varsity
Other 3 sports seasons apart from cross country
Spanish club eBoars member for one year
2 AP honors classes (Spanish and Computer science)
Currently taking a PLTW Engineering class
First generation
I am Mexican, I immigrated to the US 3 years ago and I am a resident of Illinois
Forgot to mention I am applying early action
I appreciate the details! You didn't tell me what major you're interested in, which would help a lot, but for the sake of argument I'm going to presume you're interested in CS. You've got elements that will help your application, such as being a resident of IL, applying EA, and AP CS. However, your GPA is a little on the low side, and taking AP Spanish isn't impressive given your history.
I'm a junior and i have a 3.8 unweighted gpa and a 5.0 weighted gpa (6 pt scale)
I've take 6 ap classes so far (human geo, us gov, comp science principles, comp science A, apush, and enviormental science)
I'm planning on taking ap calc bc, ap biology, and ap physics next year
I'm a manager at the radio station at my high school, I started ukrainian club at my high school, and I play track and cross country
Also I'm applying to nhs too
SAT is probably going to be a 1400ish havent taken one yet though
What are my chances of getting into enviormental engineering at uiuc
I'm also an illinois resident
Great video thank you
I'd need you to convert both GPAs to the standard 4pt scale for me. :)
3.81 Weighted GPA, no SAT score. CS major, took a comp sci class in high school. What are my chances since I really want to go here? Great Extracurricular list. Good essay too.
Are you a resident of IL?
@@jasonpatel13 Yes
Probably a little under average, given that GPA. Being an IL resident will help
Did you apply yet?
@@lauren7006 yes
I'm Illinois-an by birth, with a 3.62 GPA on the 4.00 scale, and a 1400 on the SAT. I've taken AP Language and Honors Math. I've also taken part in a wide range of intramural sports, as well as four years of student government and two years of Future Farmers of America, and speak both English and Finnish. In excess of these, I have, what my language teacher describes as, "a stellar essay." What would you say of my odds of getting into the Grainger College of Engineering, the College of Fine & Applied Arts, or the College of Veterinary Medicine. I thank you for your consideration, and this informative presentation.
Does your family currently reside in IL?
@@jasonpatel13 Yes
P.S(By the end of my next semester my gpa should be about 3.73)
Being a current IL resident will definitely help, but I wouldn't recommend the Grainger College of Engineering; you have a middling SAT score and a below-average GPA, even if you get up to a 3.73. You'll have a better chance at the College of Fine and Applied Arts than at the College of Applied Health Sciences, though they're pretty close.
@@jasonpatel13 Thank you for the response
Indian, a 1530 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, and a good enough essay but no exceptional extracurriculars. What are my chances of getting in with CS as a major?
Recently, UIUC said it was going to refocus towards accepting more students from Illinois. It also looks like it's acceptance rate is set to drop significantly next year, perhaps to as low as 30 or 35%. Given that CS is a popular major at UIUC, I would make it at least a High Target school from what I know about you.
Hi...I have gpa 3.6/4 and 1430....International student.....and fairly good essay....
How are my chances?
To be admitted in comp science. Major
that's an extremely competitive major their most competitive major I believe you should definitely apply but I don't think your chances look amazing depending on your class rank I would apply to other schools as safeties. Good Luck!
UIUC is very well known for CS, so it's hard to get into that program as an international student. As such, you should be aiming for scores that are above 75% of admitted students, which would be a GPA > 3.95 and an SAT > 1510. Good luck!
