I bought 10 of those raised beds this winter, I’m really excited about switching part of my garden over to raised beds. My goal is to eventually change about half of it to raised beds and the rest will be for in ground stuff that requires a larger planting area.
Hi Travis, I use small electric hedge clippers to cut back high vegetation and drop it. Works great in monkey grass and weeds around our pond (so hubby doesn’t get the Zero turn stuck)! Easy pleasy!
I cut and turned over Kodiac Brown mustard in one of my 4x8 feet raised beds on Tuesday. Unfortunately the bed has root knot nematodes. Gardening is my favorite exercise!
Travis, Where do you buy your rapeseed, Alaskan Brown mustard, and other cover crops from? Thank you very much! Love your videos and seeing that beautiful family of yours, working on the farm! John McHatton
You could put 2 or 3 hens in that raised bed put some t post around the outside use some heavy 5' tall netting you get at Tractor Supply add 3ft piece up top with dollar store clips shouldn't take long to do. I do that all the time with my chickens i section off few areas when ready netting helps alot.
I love the idea of cover crops in a raised bed....I would love it if you would package and sell cool season cover crop seed... you know, for those of us that aren't up to speed on the where and what...
I get all my cover crop seed from Green Cover Seed online. Their website is a wealth of information. Sometimes I buy their mixes, other times I make my own mixes.
I would love to get raised beds but they would be way too expensive to fill. I dont have a large property with sticks and branches that I could use to fill up the bottom half
Hello. I just cleaned out my Blue Lake green pole bean bed that did not produce not one green bean for the last 2 years. The bed is full of fire ants. Any idea why I can only grow fire ants in my raised beds?
This is what chickens like to do, it is great for them!

I love the pellets idea. Bribery! Chickens like to scratch around. Hide & seek. Go find the yummy treat. 😎😆

I would love to see your worm farm set up under the pecan tree!

You could use a KAKURI Grass Sickle, Kana style sickle. Works great for terminating cover crops.
Interesting, I am definitely going to try that.
I live in zone 10a what cover crops should I use for summer in my raised beds. Thanks a million

I get most of my stuff from Green Cover Seed online.
Any suggestions on where to get a raised bed mix like that around Athens, GA?
Not sure. But I would start by calling some of the plant nurseries to see where they get their stuff from.

Hi Travis, just wondering how long you leave the raised bed before planting? Thanks Jacqui
Should be ready in just a couple weeks after doing this.
@@LazyDogFarm Thank you Travis for getting back to me.
Cairo = Kay-ro........you're legit ;)
Hey, do you have any of the okra that you had last year that grows long without getting hard?
We do. Right here: lazydogfarm.com/products/dwarf-cowhorn-okra-seed
Could you tarp the bed for a couple weeks to terminate it?
Yes
@@LazyDogFarm appreciate the reply!

Maybe try a more shallow bed! You could also be working on generating some compost in the meantime . Good luck!
How long will you need to wait before you can plant seeds (or transplants) in the raised bed after the cover crop has been terminated?
A couple weeks.
Did you use to be with hoss tools
I did used to work there.

Try working the soil more, even if it's just scratching the top. Fire ants typically don't like disturbance and will move.
