This line is metaphysical And on the one side And on the one side The bad half live in wickedness And on the other side And on the other side The good half live in arrogance And there's a steep slope With a short rope This line is metaphysical And there's a steady flow Moving to and fro Oh look you earned your wings Are you an angel now Or a vulture? Constantly hovering over Waiting for a big mistake Oh my God, what have I done? Wouldn't you love to be On the cover of a magazine? Healthy skin and perfect teeth Designed to hide what lies beneath And I feel the darkness growing stronger As you cram light down my throat And how does that work out for you In your holy quest to be above reproach? Wouldn't you love to be On the cover of a magazine? Healthy skin and perfect teeth Designed to hide what lies beneath What lies beneath
He tends to change it up relatively often, but generally sticks with Fender/Fender-style boutique combos live, from blues jrs to deluxe reverbs. Supposedly he's recently started using Bensons, but in general an 'American'-style circuit on the verge of breakup with a nice pedal (AFAIK he's partial to the ProCo Rat but also has a highly-sought-after Klon Centaur) to push it when needed will get you there. The key in my experience is to let the tubes do most of the work, and only dial in a relatively transparent boost on whichever dirt-box you're using, hence his tendency to use lower-wattage combos. (well, that and they're much easier on the back!)
this song gives me chills every time...i love the drums so much
What magazine would that be?
why doesn't this video have more views. david bazan is the greatest.
Solid drumming
David Bazan is one of the greatest songwriters of the last 30 years/this generation/however you want to phrase it. He’s up there.
My god, that guitar tone. Eargasm.
David's guitar is gorgeous and I love watching that drummer. Great band.
This needs millions of views. What an incredible performance - and so wonderfully produced video-wise. 👏
Dude on the ground with his hand on his head, wasn’t ready for the deep lyrics of David bazan!

Seriously, who would give this a thumbs down? Wait... maybe a jilted lover....
Heck Yes!
Drums should sound heavier, including snare, but still great.
Can someone tell me which amp head do David use?

Thank you for such in depth answer. Cheers!
If you tweet at him asking he'll tell you. He's done that for me before!
What is that pedal he uses to get to get feedback?
Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy - with an added expression pedal.
any delay pedal that allow you to control the feedback with an external expression pedal will do the trick, but in this case is an EHX Memory Boy
