I think his intent of this song wasn’t to diss. He’s not saying these things are bad, he’s saying I’m not this, I’m not that, I am Tom Macdonald. He’s basically saying that a one size fits all style label won’t work for him.

I don’t necessarily think he doesn’t “like” those styles of rap-hip/hop, because if you go back into his catalog & listen to “Number 7” at the beginning of the song before he starts Rapping he literally says
“you can take the boy out the country, but can’t take the country out the boy.”He has done songs with Upchurch & Struggle Jennings. He toured Europe with Struggle a few years back also. So I don’t think he would disrespect those artists Main style of rapping.
So I personally think that this song is just only saying he’s not a specific type of artist bc he’s very versatile between different styles himself. Like he’s even done a Boom Bap track & done a video of that track as well. So I don’t think he was trying to say he doesn’t like those styles whenever he’s been involved with a few of those styles.

You have to keep in mind, you’re watching the videos “out of order.” In order, this was really the first time he showed out about his money. Then for a few videos/songs he was showing off the Gucci/Louis/etc. He caught some heat from a few fans saying he was changing and “selling out” which ended up with the song Sellout. Since the he’s stepped back from showing off again.

I have hated rap and hip hop for 20 years outside of Emenien. I'm from the 80s era. So I get where he is coming from
was born in 81 and after 50 Cent rap took a massive dive! but now that there's so many ppl doing their own shit Hip Hop is doing a great comeback... the latest to join is Ez Mil with Panalo, IDK, Freeze and 24 Bars! he's blowing up like crazy right now and he doing it all on his own like Tom MacD, Adam Calhoun, Ryan Upchurch, Hopsin and all the other out there like them!
Not a fan of em but I also grew up in hip hop in the 80s I stopped listen to artist I liked when I was running the streets tom is the only artist I listen to besides 80s stuff

His music evolves over time. As he grows his music changes. If you go way back in his music you can find songs about drinking and girls and blah blah blah but he grew as an artist and found his lane. Part of why I believe he is a great artist. He’s like a walking history book. ( for his life and events happening around him) you can watch him develop.

This is really not a diss on all of those types of rappers, Tom is just saying he’s not any of them, he is his own lane.
The only thing he really hates is the direction hip hop has taken with the promotion of drugs, violence and objectification of women. It’s covered in the hook, that’s what he hates about hip hop.
As for all the rest, he’s just like, “Don’t expect a specific genre from me.” Tom’s done boom bap but he’s not a boom bap rapper. Tom’s done songs that were 100% auto tuned “I Got Bad News” but he’s not ‘lil rapper’, “... auto tuning every song”.
I’m gonna correct myself here: Tom’s not just in his own lane, he plowed, graded, prepped and paved his own highway.

I'm pretty sure that he wasn't taking shots at all the different types of rap, just more or less just saying that he's not that type of rapper. Basically just saying that he's his own style and just like upchurch they both created their own lane. As for the I hate hip hop is Basically say that he hate what's going on in hip hop now compared to the shit we grew up listening to.

I can give you the run down on Tom and why he says what he does if you want. He is very deliberate in every word he uses and it serves a purpose. I totally get what you're saying but like someone else said it's hard when you listen to his songs out of order because he is constantly referring back to or linking lines from previous songs and some of what he says is in response to some bullshit hate that he's gotten, thus this song. This is kind of like Cancelled in a way if that makes sense. Like I told you, you can't compare Tom to anybody, Tom Is Tom. LOL This was the 1st song I heard of his and took me reading comments, going on his Facebook, watching old live streams, and listening to every song he had on UA-cam for me to really appreciate him and love his music. Now I am obsessed! If you notice Tom calls himself a rapper not a hip hop artist and all the OGs refer to hip hop as the culture around rap so its 2 different things really. Tom doesn't like the hip hop culture because of the gang thug wannabes, sexualizing women, promoting drugs, etc. FYI I'm sure eventually you will notice he talks about the brand labels and chains. All the Louie and Gucci is 2nd hand he bought for videos but doesn't really wear it and his jewelry is fake. He's has given away and resold a lot of it after the videos. The reason he talks about it is because he got so much hate and so many people accusing him of being a sellout or that he had changed. This is the song that brought me back to hip hop. Grew up on Wu-Tang, Nas, etc. Jeezy was the last rapper I got into. Felt the message in this song. I hate what hip hop has turned into nowadays. Miss lyrics and meanings. Tim showed there still some real MCs out there. Just gotta search for them cause they're not on a record label nowadays.

Tbh i think he is throwing shade at being pigeonholed into one type of genre. Because he has done a lot of these styles, but not exclusively. He has his own style and its not generic, I think is the whole thing to it, without tearing anyone else down in the process
