    Except for the battery life, i heard nothing that would motivate me to pay almost 2x more for the A6600 over the A6500...the latter is $798 @ B&H.

    The sunny weather brightness issue on the a6500 was also apparent in 4k. Actually, even when not in sunny weather, the a6500 would dim when shooting 4k. The a6600 stays bright bright bright through all of it!

    Seems great except that at the price of the A6600, you can pretty much get an A7 III.
    So then the question becomes, elite aps-c or entry level full frame?

    • @gelisob
      @gelisob 5 років тому +6

      For many camera owners, the body is not where most of the investment lies. So the choice of full frame is not really on the table, if you have full lineup of crop sensor lenses. Tiny difference in body prices but huge one to replace all the lenses to take advantage of that bigger sensor.

    • @TerraThink
      @TerraThink 5 років тому +2

      @@gelisob Very true. I guess I was thinking from the perspective of someone without any previous lenses (or someone who's changing brands and doesn't want to use adapters).
      But even so, full frame lenses tend to be much more expensive as well.
      Picking the A7 III would in the end indeed be more expensive due to the lenses.

    • @Philipppppppp
      @Philipppppppp 4 роки тому

      I would choose the elite APS-C.

    • @JashDoshi
      @JashDoshi 4 роки тому

      Apsc lens are way cheaper than full frame ones

    • @TerraThink
      @TerraThink 4 роки тому +1

      @@JashDoshi It depends actually. Compare Sigma 35mm f1.4 for Sony full frame for $700 vs Fujifilm 23mm f1.4 for $900.
      There you get a faster (Fuji crop sensor 23mm f1.4 = full frame 35mm f2.1) full frame lens for less money.
      EDIT: The Sigma is larger, heavier and a non-native lens but that Fujifilm 23mm f1.4 should be compared with full frame f1.8 or f2.0 lenses. In that case we can look at Canon RF 35mm f1.8.
      It weighs about the same as the Fuji and is slightly faster for a much cheaper price ($500).

    i'm definitely going to go with the a6600. I had planned on getting the a6500 until i heard about the screen dimming issues and whatnot. Looks like the a6600 will be worth spending the extra money.

    Thanks for the review. As a 6500 owner I understand there have been some improvements, as there should be; however, from the mass of reviews on the cameras I am hearing mostly about video improvements and that for long segment videos and even a report that the color settings were slightly less than the older 6500. The battery life is appealing but then it goes back to time interval use- I do not have issues with that personally. The autofocus speed really has me skeptical. When the 6500 was first out, the big deal was its super autofocus speed. Hmm.

    2:55 you accidently answered a question that many people would like to know. Which camera has the best image quality out of the Sony line up. The answer is in practice they are close enough for most of us not to worry about it. As you say here you couldn't figure out which was which. We all know there is a difference but what you have confirmed here is without pixel peeping most of us and certainly not the audience will notice a difference.

    Quick question, can you use custom color profiles in video? I've got a 6500 and indeed, the flip screen doesn't do enough. Also, on the entire line of these cameras, the microphone port needs to be select-able from mic to line level in the menu settings. My Fuji X-S10 is and I use "line level" and send audio from an external Zoom recorder and microphone using that microphone pre-amp and compression instead of the camera's pre-amp and my audio sounds amazing.

The flip up screen on the 6600 is huge for people who vlog and those same people will benefit from IBIS vs the 6400... if you can afford it, I’d go A7iii, unless you’re a vlogger.

    • @TaylorMoore4K
      @TaylorMoore4K  5 років тому

      Yeah but those two or 3 tweaks are fairly substantial! IBIS is a really big deal. Some people like APSC sensors better than full frame for whatever reason, and the jump in price to the A7III isn’t trivial. The A7III also doesn’t have the 180 screen which, for some who might appreciate this camera, is a big deal.

    Sony a6600 = epic fail. We were waiting 3 years after the release of a6500 to get almost EXACTLY the same camera as 3 years before. NO Sony. This camera doesn't worth the 1500$ .

    • @TaylorMoore4K
      @TaylorMoore4K  5 років тому

      I understand the frustration but until you’ve held it and used it, it’s tough to see how much of a strong incremental improvement it is. Now does it compare to canon’s 1DX Mark iii announcement? Not in the slightest. To your point, they took a HUGE step forward and Sony should be looking to do the same.

    • @georges8408

      @@TaylorMoore4K A camera like a6600 that implements the same 5 years old sensor as a6500 and its electronics are by 80% the same as a6500 CAN NOT be so much batter than a6500. It is just mathematics... What you see as improvements are mainly becouse of the bit faster LSI processor and the most mature firmware-software process (which by the way can run at a6500 as well).

    • @TaylorMoore4K
      @TaylorMoore4K  5 років тому +2

      George S the screen has nothing to do with the processor, the bigger batteries have nothing to do with the processor, audio monitoring has nothing to do with the processor, HLG addition has nothing to do with the processor... not sure where you’re getting that conclusion bud =/

      @georges8408 5 років тому

      @@TaylorMoore4K if nothing has to do with the processor (which is the only new thing in a6600 along with the new battery) then ALL these things you are talking about could be implemented in a6500 as well... this is what we are talking about . a6600 is just a refurbished a6500 ... same old technology. That doesn't means that it is not a good camera. It is a good camera like a6500 is. BUT not a new camera.

    • @TaylorMoore4K
      @TaylorMoore4K  5 років тому

      I agree that many of these things could have been on the A6500. The screen and battery surely. The AF... tough to say. That bit came new with the A6400 and I think is really new tech for them. The hinge on the screen is something new for them as well. My ultimate point is they took the things that were my biggest sticking points with the A6500 and made them much better. So for anyone just looking to dive in now, they’ll be at a better place with the 66 than I was with the 65.
