Both those looked really good to me. The one time I tried the spicy sauce, it roasted my tongue off, but you like hot stuff way more than me, so it might not seem as hot to you.
Happy New Year friend !! The Chinese meals, have limited sides, however, plenty of rice. You would be very full after the meal, for sure. No fruit ,or, pickled vegetables in this meal. Odd? Granted, the portion sizes are so small, it wouldn't much difference anyway. I enjoyed your meal and review friend. Now that I am back on first shift, I will try to see more of your live streams. Peace, John.
Nicole Tovar I tried to fluff it up to look as good as possible. Not much to this ration but the mains are huge. It was more than me and my 17 year old son even could eat.
@@Oldsmokey1 I think there was a huge bump of the availability of frontline meal supplying since 2015 for the PLA. They are even delivering hot fresh prepared meals by drones in the standoff area on the China-India border. Plus I think the pla is the only military spending huge bucks on converting different platforms of ground and amphibious vehicles into mobil kitchens, in order to cook fresh in the front line. So that leaves the new MREs an awkward position -- to only supply calories when there's nothing else to eat in contrast of the previous 09 version which has only one entree, but with energy bars, sweet bakeries (in some menus to substitute the energy bar), candies, canned fruits and pickled veges.
The Chinese are experts at jumping on the bandwagon of the next hot thing. MREs are in vogue today, and these are more than likely geared towards civilian consumers and tourists, and that hole is just for hanging them on a hook.
+Wilfred Caraballo The type 13 self heating is one of the most used rations by the Chinese but I do feel like the make surplus for retail but I'm not sure about that part. I'll say though the hole placement doesn't make much sense for shelf hanging imho. It would make more sense to put the hole at top through both pieces for more support near the seam.
When Steve had this one the pork was hella green. He wouldn't even try it. An he tries everything so it must have been horrible. Good to see that it was probably a fluke and not all of them are garbage.
So this is in some way different than the Chinese MREs where they get little egg roll meat things and pickled radish? The ones I’ve seen reviewed always seemed to contain a little packet of pickled radish and some seaweed flake spice mix. This looks entirely different and that spicy sauce almost looked chutney like it’s so thick.
What an interesting little ration, the Chinese definitely do have one of the most powerful FRH’s across the world, although I believe the JSDF FRH beats it, that one means serious business lol. I think I’d be with you and like the one with pork and corn in it the best lol.
I've wondered about the holes in the outer bag myself. No idea of the "official" reasoning, but my theories are the same as yours. Great review as always Smokey. Happy New Year!
Ha! I suppose it's good to still have a few mysteries in the world of rations. Seems like everyone knows everything these days, so it's kind of comforting to have at least a couple things out there that nobody has the answer for!
Great review Smokey! I have had those mains in the Type 09 rations and thought they were pretty good. I also think there is 2 types of spicy sauce since i have had both a thick and thin version. Hope you had a great New Year and thanks for sharing!
So sorry didnt stay for your live stream. I went out to dinner and a movie with inlaws. I didnt sleep well the night before so by the end of the night i was tired. I saw the stream starting. I stopped in to say a quick hi. Now that the Holidays are slowing down i look forward to getting back in. I hope everyone had a Happy New Years and on to a better yr:)
I'm supposing that the spicy sauce isn't too overly spicy in efforts to keep the Soldiers from getting the "rrhea"... P.s., they took my notification bell away AGAIN! This is like the 5th time now that they've done that! With?!?!
oh man, once you opened that flameless heater, that heating chemicals would eventually oxide out even you dont touch it, then it cant output any heat when you want to
Thanks for the review ! These rations look "poor" at the first sight. The mains don't contain a looot of meat or vegs, but... I agree that they are very decent in terms of taste and you will not be certainly hungry after the meal.
From comments I read in the past, I think it was used to hang on metal hooks to sell in surplus stores. A bit strange, but seems to make a bit of sense.
Happy New Years everyone.....be safe.

Oldsmokey Happy New Year OldSmokey! To you and your family and pets.

is hole made by customs when it's shipped into the usa so china doesn't send some NBC stuff your way?
Both those looked really good to me. The one time I tried the spicy sauce, it roasted my tongue off, but you like hot stuff way more than me, so it might not seem as hot to you.
I thought mine was pierced so they could squash it into a smaller bag for shipping. Not sure of the real reason though.
+DEAN WATERS
They all have that hole. It's odd. Surely there's a legitimate reason.
Here's a direct link to foreignmre.com.

Old Smokey I believe the small hole is to tie a string through the ration for portability purposes.
Wandering Marine Veteran
That's interesting if that is the case. It's weird they don't want to keep air out of the bags.
Wandering Marine Veteran now that makes some sense but also ruins the waterproofing of the outer container
@@AKayfabe Agreed, but it is often unnecassary, or little effect.

You put a shoestring through your belt loop breakfast lunch and dinner and you hook it to your belt loop three MREs
Wow. I never would have thought of this but I bet that would be handy as fuck. Leave more room in your backpack also.
These dishes look legit better than some I’ve actually ordered from a restaurant.

Pretty interesting, next time snort the rice pls
Considering it's an import this could have been something U.S. customs agents did to check the contents to ensure there weren't drugs inside.
Good review man, those Chinese heaters never disappoint
Great Review. I had the very same menu too before and I really liked it a great deal.
Just found your channel through Steve. I like it! Keep up the good work.
Thats not a hole thats a sight for blowing up hunger
Maybe it has a hole to tie it on to a belt or a bag for easy grasping if in case the soldier is in a hurry ?

China is crazy mountainous, it'd make good sense that they'd have a hole so the thing wouldn't blow up like a balloon when they're up a mountain.

That's definitely a possible explanation.

Yeah I think his frh also malfunctioned on the video. Definitely had a compromised MRE

Probably the decommission theory since water could get into that hole and possibly ruin it.
Awesome review as always. Will be sharing

Thank you Jenny.
Happy New Year... I wonder: do you eat the complete portion each time? I surely would do that lol ;)
I believe that the spicy sauce is chili paste

Agreed, Chinese ate big on the Red chilli paste. They use it by the bucket fulls.

Awesome review! Happy New Year my friend
What spyderco is that?
Another nice one
Happy New Year to you, Sir!

Great review Smokey
does salt water work better for the heaters?
Usually. The salt makes the iron filings in the heater oxidize faster, so it will put out maximum heat in a shorter period.
The meal packaging looks like fake Louis Vuitton knock offs
Why do you use salt water?
I believe it will heat up faster or it gets more hot (or both)
Great review interesting ration
+James Derynck
Idk if I'd buy another but a good one time experience.
I'm sure that it gives you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of lead and chemicals.
