- Speeding or Near Miss? Box Trucks Flips Over. Our job isn't to determine how accidents happen, just to recover them. But it's safe to say speed was a big factor here as is almost always the cause. No other vehicles were involved, but the driver told the officer that he had to swerve to avoid another car which caused him to flip over.
Luckily no injuries for the driver and no other damage involved. The call originally came in as a loaded tractor trailer over turned blocking the intersection. I took off in Hulk, my 50ton rotator, followed by Alex in Big Flipper, our 75ton rotator, to quickly clear the scene. Upon arrival we saw it was only a box truck, and began to work immediately to open up the street.
We used Big Flipper to focus on the box while I used Hulk to spike the front and control the front so it comes over smoothly. Far too often I see videos of companies destroying these boxes and ripping them as they come over, or having them violently slam over the other way without catch lines. Really no need for that style of cowboy recoveries with the modern equipment we have.
Once upright, Hulk prepped the unit for tow and it went back to my base. The owner came not even an hour later to pick up the unit.

Not only does disconnecting the drive shaft save the transmission, it makes double sure someone doesn't jump in the cab and drive off without paying😁

That statement about the drive shaft is so truck. I had one that was only held on by 1 U Bolt. The Breakdown Clown at the company I drove for tried to tell me that bumpy shake was more likely my leveler on the back of tractor. 12 years later and a different company and I lost one but truck didn't have no shake. I just know I lost all my air and was trying to get over 3 lanes to shoulder. I thought my airbags blew. Didn't know it was the drive shaft until Road Service wanted me to pull forward to disconnect trailer so he can get under truck and was NOT able to and that's when we all found out it was the drive shaft. So I sat 2 hours for a heavy duty tow truck. That's also the first time I ever drove a tow truck. Grant it was only 1000 feet but he had to make sure my back wheels would roll.

No it's mainly because the rotators are very busy, so it would be down time for it to be towing, so most of the time it's more productive to get a wrecker to do it as that's what there built for.😊

You have to be driving like a nut to roll a truck on city streets, the excuse of avoiding a car is BS. If you're running a fleet of trucks. Put in a high quality monitored camera system like Lytx, etc. These accidents will stop or you will know who to fire or retrain before an accident happens.
