With a 1.5 litre Naturally Aspirated engine with such less power figures it cannot be a good off roader. So no competition with Thar and Gurkha which are safer also than Jimmy.
I would take the Gurkha over the Thar. The reasons are: 1. The Thars auto rear lockers only activates after it detects wheel spin. So the rear wheels has to loose traction first for it to activate, and sometimes it fails to lock as well. The Gurkha has manually operated lockers, that you can engage. With this you have more control, and can go over the worst Terrains smoothly without any wheel spins. 2. It has front lockers. The only other vehicles that have front lockers are the Jeep Wrangler and the Mercedes G wagon. Although you would rarely need it, I would prefer to have it. 3. Rear seats are better, and the visibility out of those huge windows would come in handy in a safari where your want to take pictures from the safety of your vehicle. 4. Thar seems to offer better usability in the city, but it's still far from ideal. I would just get a hatchback for City commute, then the Gurkha for some serious off-road or during the monsoons where our roads turn into rivers. That factory fitted snorkel looks promising. Only thing I am not so keen about Gurkha is the after sales service. Although force motors claims low maintenance, only long term ownership can determine this.

I feel Thar interiors are superior to Gurkha however the rear seats of Gurkha would be more comfortable. Overall Gurkha is a better off roader than Thar.
But the Thars approach angle (41.8 degrees) and departure angle (36.8 degrees) and breakeover angle (27 degrees) is more than Gurkhas (37 degrees, 33 degrees, 25 degrees).
I dont know if they are lieing, the same engine comes with our force cruiser and traveller 21 seator, and for the traveller even with ful 21 capacity, some 1000 kg of luggage, the vehicle right away without any problem!!
You get oodles of torque, yes. But without any significant changing to gear ratios, its not going to cruise as comfortably as the thar. The Gurkha's rpm limiter is at around 3300.
Thar is for those who want capable suv and Gurkha is for those who want hardcore suv. I am using Thar as my daily use only thing which bothers me is its headlights.

This person has been planted by Mahindra for appreciating more about Thar over Gurkha. The BHP of Thar which 140 is only on papers. When comes to reality in implementing, Gurkha has a edge over it as it holds a Mercedes-Benz engine.
No one is planted by Mahindra here. Gurkha is a full-blown offroader while the Thar can be used for both. Thar produces 150 BHP and yes Gurkha has an advantage over Thar due to manual lockers but that old Merc engine is really going to be a problem due to such low power figures. The biggest flaw that I see with the Rear Seat Access via the Rear Third Door in Gurkha is that if the luggage space is filled with luggage's especially Big ones, then the rear passenger can jump only if the one of the front passenger get down, removes the luggage and provides space for the rear passengers to get out. Or the rear passengers have to figure out a way to make way with luggage's still in place. In Ingress, egress, and regress is not well designed.
Thar comparatively is modern with its new engine and chasis but, the Force Gurkha is more off road focused with front and rear differential lockers. The only downside to Gurkha with the 2.6 liter 91 bhp 200+ NM torque engine is quite out dated and slow mile muncher as on road driving dynamics and three digit crusing speeds are questionable......still its a personal perspective of buyer.....I so wished that Gurkha offered its 2.2 liter 138 bhp engine.....that would have made Gurkha more appeable and road worthy.

If gurkha improves their interior quality ,automatic transmission, petrol engine they would give a tuff fight
I loved the rugged car with its considerable improvements..i didnt like the grin on the fat hosts face when hes talking abt the Gurkha..its a superb car
Gurkha would be ny choice as I travel with a large dog which is impossible to do so in the thar. Also gurkha is more raw feel; more connection with the vehicle.
Looks wise Thar is the best
Force Gurkha is OSM 💥💥
3:48 legend
I love gurkha ,thar ander se dekho, sari tare ,(wire )dikh rhi hai aur dhol lgti hai gurkha achi hai tuff
Bro Gurkha is a proper off-road vehicle
. Thar is now a family SUV
With some seats😂😂😂
Gurkha is easily killing Thar... Old generation thar was best, new generation one just has looks....
Thar always ❤️
I saw the modified gurkha in the 2020 expo. trust me, if you see that one, you won't even think once about that or jimmy
Gurkha is true offroader it's a car for a man of adventure. Well Thar is stylish suv with a little offroading capacity
At -20 degree Celsius temperature Gurkha engine will turn on ignition without any problem. Not sure about Thar. This one is built for those Himalayan ranges where snow falls are common
Gurkha sirf off road typ lagti hai aur thar off roadr + normal use dono me achi lagti hai 😆
any time gorkha is our choice ..
Gurkha is not a lifestyle vehicle ... it's an offroader
9:57 Lol! He's saying "Because the peak torque comes at 1400 rpm, turbo lag isn't felt a lot" when reviewing a naturally aspirated engine!
yes, even after having a 2.6 litre engine it isnt well powered. do you know why?
I was also wondering the same 😂
I was waiting for this review only .btw big fan from 5yrs
thar has no comparison bro ❤...gurka Looks Like tata sumo
Even I feel the same bro.
Yes ❤️
Are either of these vehicles going to be available in New Zealand please?
Less Gadgets less headache
Less Electronics items less tensaion
Less wiring. Lot of pocket money saving in future
Just those front and rear diff locks got me at HELLO
MAHINDRA THAR IS MORE ACCEPTABLE 🖤
🖤
Finally waiting over
Thar is just....wove....🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
For hardcore off-road i will go for Gurkha and for daily drive Thar. New thar doesn’t offer much for offering.
I think the force gurkha should have come with a om601 turbo which gives more mileage , power and more smoother and easily repairable
Thar❤️
This is actually what you call an offroader....
Thar is daily driver practical. And backed by the service centres and spares availability across India. It is just more liveable with. Force Gurkha is wonderful as a pure utility off roader if one lives in a farm or estate or mountainous region with no roads.
