i really really mean that! You are a guy with heart and passion , it can be felt by everybody here watching your content. Man, with these huge videos, have you ever considered streaming on twitch ? That would be amazing ! You could than upload everything to youtube afterwards.
i mean... this would be like an effortless endeavor in the chain recording procedure, and it would not hurt at all ;D If anything you would gain some followers and be distracted by the chat !
I wondered when you would get to this. I've been bashing away at this for a couple of months and am slowly making progress with it. Not sure if that makes me some kind of masochist, but I am having fun with it. Balanced? impossible to say, I haven't yet made it through a full game. There are now living rules on BGG as well as errata and clarifications which smooth out the worst of the rules issues.
I like this author as well. He did a pc game called great invasions a long time ago (see matrix games) which works very similarly to this i.e. a mix between Britannia, small world(ie decline status), and a lot of chrome. But I wish he would streamline some ideas because playing with 10000 exceptions (ie chrome) does not lead to a fluid game. Everyone would be constantly reading the rules, losing any kind of possible immersion. One could find a balance between near historical complex simulation without railroading, a manageable and fun playability, and a reasonable level of balance (See WIF, EIA).
Fascinating game. I'm curious to follow your exploration of this one. But what you say about the rules mess means i'll probably skip it or only pick it up at the cheap. My tolerance for garbled messes tends to be low. Still seems fun to tackle during cold winter nights! Comfy longterm game.
@@calandale I play strategy games on PC, Europa Universalis, Talisman (digital version)... I've done just a tad of tabletop wargamming (Warhammer) 20 years ago... I sometimes look at BGG just cuz it interests me. It's the kind of thing I wish I was into, but probably never will be. :-)
@@calandale Your videos are calming and familiar to me, in the sense that I used to be into pen&paper role playing games and I'm kind of a rules nerd, I like the complexity of it. You're like a nerd's ASMR kinda video channel :-)
Never bought/played Hispania but EU and LGG are in my library. I never got far in EU as the book keeping was too much for me. LGG though is amazing. I will get back to it after I complete Fatal Alliances.
So glad you do the playthrough of invasions! This is the best channel and you are the best game player hands down on the whole internet.

Heh - first time I've played one of his games that was a computer game first.

Pfft...I wouldn't touch it unless you absolutely know you want it so you can design a game for it.
Thanks man! Always enjoy your videos... I'm not a board game player, but I enjoy you anyway.
Wow...how did you find the channel if you're not a boardgamer?

Now if you were into digital games you could help me along and guide me into the hobby, but... alas, you do not...
Neat - didn't know there was a digital Talisman. Anyway, glad to have you watching.
This game flew completely under my radar. Maybe a good thing though as I would've bought it, but now I get to see your playtthrough before deciding.
It is self-abuse. If you enjoy (somehow?) Hispania though, this is worth hunting down.

Hispania is not on the same level at all - nor is this. See my rant at the end of part 2 of the intro (loading).
Looking forward to it. I think.
There is a Living rule book on BGG, the living rules are way more clear than RAW. boardgamegeek.com/filepage/204272/living-rules
Interestingly, just today a new game on this topic showed up on BGG called
Barbarian Kingdoms (2023).
I got my copy yesterday. :D
@@calandale Wow, pretty fast for a 2023 game! Pre-published review copy I presume?
No. I preordered it. Must have been released early?
Oops - my error. I'm thinking Barbarians at the Gates. And read your post that your copy had just showed up.
I should learn to read.
@@calandale Interesting that so many games on this topic seem to be appearing now.
The Armenians had awesome flags back in this time (look up Kingdom of Armenia in antiquity on wikipedia)
Say, ever play Barbarian, Kingdom & Empire?
Not yet. It's on my wishlist...but not a real burning need.
@@calandale Feel like it too may have been an influence here.

still waiting for you to do some play throughs
