    Ah, the ever so pleasant 10th street boat ramp. I have launched many times our Windrider 17 from there to the dismay of power boaters.

    Hey Tomas, great video! About your bowsprit - on the ocean it should not be deployed without a halyard holding up the tip. I saw in the video a bit with the screacher down on deck and the sprit deployed, with the little line from the sprit to the pulpit. If the sprit punches in to waves, the water force can bend your pulpit down! I learned that lesson the hard way on F27 217 Origami. Sneaky waves :)

      Good to know! I never thought of that. I was wondering why my pulpit was bent downward... I got the boat (#224) like this. I thought it was due to the mast weight when on the trailer over time, but now that you tell me this, it certainly looks exactly like what you describe.
      This clip was taken south of Key West on my way to Cuba and I was getting ready for the long night. The rolled up screacher was balancing at every wave, and for some reason, I though it was annoying, so I lowered it.
      Thank you so much for the info, I will make sure this does not happen!

      Awesome to meet you at Hemingway! I continued to Mexico and the boat is now at Isla Mujeres. I plan to sail back to Florida next week. That will be a long sail, just waiting for the perfect weather window. Will certainly post a new video after that.

      Nice our friend Faho is in Isla Mujeres also! I'm sure you two have talked. Looking forward to the next one. How many days do you think it will take?

    • @tomaskryan
      @tomaskryan  7 років тому

      I am planning between 4 to 6 days depending on the wind of course. I will first aim for Dry Tortugas and then Sarasota if the weather cooperates nicely.

    I think it was just common sense to be hooked on. One misstep, weird wave, and the next thing you know you are swimming home....with some shark escorts. And just to be clear, he wasn't hooked on the whole time. Look closer, haters. He was bundled up cause it was windy and choppy in sections of his trip and that's when he wore his lifeline....

    This is awesome didn't realize people were doing passages on these trailer-sailor Corsairs .. Epic ! How long did it take you ? Max Speed ? Avg Speed ?

    • @tomaskryan
      @tomaskryan  7 років тому +4

      It took about three days from Sarasota to Cuba. I stayed a few nights in Key West before the crossing to Havana which took about 20 hours. In general, I calculate 6 knots average, but sometimes I can sustain 8-10 knots over a long period of time. The max speed at saw on my GPS was 13.1 knots, that make a bumpy ride!

    Im thinking about buying a Corsair for a new home in Saint James City Fla. and keep it on a boat lift. Wonder how the sit on a boat lift with floats folded up.
    Looks like you can singlehand it and that is what I would do sometimes just sailing
    around the west coast of Florida where I plan to sail most of the time. The water is shallow so this boat looks like it would be good and can beach it too like
    at Cayo Casa island in the area. I was also looking at a Schrock Santanna 23 which
    can sail in shallow water and has a small cabin too. Lifting daggerboard and rudder.
    These Corsairs have some room in the cabin looks like. I have seen some in Sarasota sailing club.

      A few days ago I saw an F27 folded on a boat lift. It was just off the ICW in the Englewood FL area. It can definitely be done and I think it is a great idea! The F27 can be singlehanded quite easily, especially if you get an autotiller with remote. I sail the FL West coast alone very often.

    • @tomaskryan
      @tomaskryan  6 років тому

      The F27 has about 18 inches of draft and can be easily beached. I love going to Cayo Costa and Pelican Bay, and I can go right up to the beach. If you get stuck you can hop off and rock the boat until it frees itself. Never a big deal. Go for it!

      @tomaskryan  6 років тому

      Yep, there is a bunch of F27 at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. I keep mine on its trailer at my brothers property. The F27 is not roomy so not very comfortable for long trips. For longer trip I would rather have the F31, as you can stand up in the cabin.

    Hey Thomas how long have you had your Fboat? I am looking to upgrade soon. I was looking at the 28 or the 27. how do you like it and does it handle a good blow? have you ever almost flipped it? thanks man love your videos

    • @tomaskryan
      @tomaskryan  7 років тому +2

      Hi, John. I have had my F27 for almost five years now. My next upgrade will probably be to the F31 as there is much more space inside; you can actually stand up. I do not think there is much difference between the F27 and the F28. I feel it handles very well in all situation (wind or waves), except at low speed with little room to maneuver. Never got close to flipping it. I don't think I would be able to even by trying my best.

    What type of clearance did you need to visit Cuba? I’ve been admiring some islands off the coast that look amazing!

    • @tomaskryan
      @tomaskryan  3 роки тому

      Not sure what is needed these days. I went right after Obama openned visits to Cuba, but that was reversed after.
      Cuba does not care, visa is like $50. The problem is coming back to the US. Before my trip I went to US Border office at the Sarasota airport and they stamped a few docs to make sure I would not get in trouble coming back. I did get intercepted by the Coast Guard coming into Key West. No problem.

    Hey Tomas , Love your video's , also sail an F-27 on the Great South Bay , Long Island , 2nd season . Got a few questions . Number one is the roller furling setup during mast stepping. Please respond.
    Thanks
    Kim F-27 #292

    • @tomaskryan
      @tomaskryan  5 років тому

      Hi Kim, I just saw your question. Sorry for the very late response. The rolling furler has no sail when the mast is down. After I raise the mast at the boat ramp, I install and raise the sail on the rolling furler. I sometimes also do that when leaving the dock under motor. Hope that answers your question.

    • @tomaskryan
      @tomaskryan  6 років тому

      No F-31 for a few more years. The Florida Gulf is great for sailing, pretty much all year long. You just have to watch for thunderstorms (and hurricanes) during the warmer months. Winter is the best with more wind. Summer can get too hot.

    Hey man great video. How long did it take you to cuba and what was Customs and immigration like?

    • @tomaskryan
      @tomaskryan  7 років тому +3

      All was pretty straight forward. It took two days from Sarasota to Key West. From there about 24 hours to Marina Hemingway Cuba.
      Customs took about two hours, no problems, they are pretty efficient.
      Before leaving the US, I went to US Border Control to make sure all my papers were in order for my return.
      I continued to Isla de Mujeres where I am now. You can see my trip track in detail at:
