Glad I found your channel, excellent format and easy to digest speaking/delivery. Really enjoyed the tea break. Always great to hear encouraging words especially when you were not expecting it.

I got mine yesterday. I am not crazy about how it does not unfold completely flat. Otherwise, I really like like it so far. Spent the last year on iOS so the change back has been a bit jarring, but mostly positive.
Wouldn't it be kind of pointless for it to unfold completely flat due to the camera hump? Not being a smartazz. Genuinely asking because it seems that it wouldn't be able to sit flat even if it were able to open a full 180°
@@jasonmcelroy1938 it's true that the device will not sit flat. But the way this one unfolds, it gets to about 178 degrees causing the slight bend to be really distracting in tablet mode.
Hey Josh, love the content. The mic on the table pics up the thumps from your arms hitting the table. It's not noticeable until you're using headphones then you hear it.
3:00 Thats where I see Samsung's foldable being the better one and the problem with this phone, the front screen is too big where it now just looks and feels like a regular candy bar phone, not making the user actually want to open it and use the bigger screen. Samsung's Z fold is has a narrow front screen making it more compact to fit in pockets, bags etc and because the screen is smaller it makes you want to open it and use the bigger screen more often.

For a similar aspect ratio, the Surface Duo and Duo 2 are the sweet spot. 2x3 on a single screen and 4x3 when opened. I'm liking the Pixel Fold aspect over the Galaxy Fold, which is closer to 3x8 when it is closed. I would love to see the Microsoft Launcher and multitasking brought to the Pixel Fold.
The Pixel Fold shares the same launcher concept as the Duo I.e. The phone mode launcher is the same as the big screen launcher, just two windows of the launcher side by side. With that as a foundational piece it should be relatively easy to launch an app on one side of the screen and see one window of your homescreen on the other. A shame Google didn't copy those great ideas from the Duo.
@@jamesjohnXII and 3x8 is 24. In the ballpark, it is splitting a portrait screen vertically which yields tall and narrow. Splitting 4:3 into 2:3 or 3:7 (3:8 for the math) are approximations. I prefer the 2:3 for both media consumption and reading.
@R.B. 2:3 is probably the wrong aspect ratio for most media, most things are either 16:9 or 21:9 Sometime 19.5:9 if they're made specifically for iphones
@@jamesjohnXII I've done the math, buried in some comment long ago, and 2:3 isn't great for 16:9, but it also isn't bad. It is the same for 4:3 content. In fact, there's not a great many horizontal pixels you gain, but for 2.1:1 or similar stretched screens, you waste a lot with black bars on the left and right. That is even worse for 4:3 content, or forgive me for suggesting, 1:1 or portrait framed content that someone was thoughtful enough to reframe for 16:9 landscape. Bleh. With a foldable, the argument is that you just unfold the device to take advantage of the inner 4:3 screen, something you couldn't really do with the Duo or Duo 2 unless you like the gap, but you don't really miss that much when you consider that most folks with the Z Fold don't usually rotate their unfolded screens to landscape anyway. The 4:3 aspect of the Z Fold unfolded to portrait is about the same width without the significant black bars. The Pixel Fold actually solves both of these concerns by unfolding to landscape. You gain the extra horizontal pixels without rotating, giving it a slight advantage over both the Z Fold and the Duo. For the same reason, using the Pixel Fold in Tabletop mode, or the Duo in a tent posture, or as I like to use, a modified tent posture which is like the laptop posture with the keyboard folded back, provide better media displays. I'm hoping that the Pixel Fold makes it really easy to force use of the cover screen with the device partially unfolded, I saw that it had been shown for some apps like the camera, but I don't know if it can be used for just any app in that mode. I think that will provide a similar use case, but then the camera bump will be a factor that the 360 hinge of the Duo solves without complication and it provides access to the volume rocker on the top of the screen.
Thanks for the info on the Pixel fold. I did pre-order. I'm supposed to receive it this Thursday. I can't wait pretty excited. I've had all the Samsung folds, but I am excited about trying something new. Love the tea break 😊
I love this phone and look but the fold 5 just looks imo better. Plus I hate the new UI bubbly look of the Google. Their previous pixel UI was perfect.
as a fold 4 user, I think Pixel's fold has a better aspect ratio. I won't be changing my phone until end of next year so hopefully Pixel will work out the kinks, like not unfolding 180 degrees.
Thank you for your outlook on the device!!! I ordered mine on Monday, July 9th. I received notification that it will arrive at my doorstep tomorrow, July 14th. Sooooo excited!!! I've been waiting for the Pixel "Passport" for years now!!!
First time checking out your channel and this was excellent. Thanks for the well thought out and chill video. I pre-ordered day one as well and this made me even more excited.
Thanks Josh. I'm getting one hahahaha... I have to. This is what I've been waiting for. I have to be a part of the "improvement process" of the Pixel Fold. I know the 2nd generation will be more of a keeper, but this 1st generation will satisfy my love for the form factor. I cannot wait to read comics on-the-go, again. The Pixel 7 Pro doesn't cut it, and I'm not a sole tablet user. #teaenjoyed
Very good and relaxing video. I like how you appreciate the device for what it is and this shows that you understand it. I really wanted my first foldable to be a pixel, but I'll stick to the pixel 6 pro for now. The price doesn't justify the jump yet.
I'll start considering it when they lessen the crease, narrow the bezels, and improve the battery life. When I'm spending 1800, I feel I can be picky. I also learned NEVER buy first gen anything
I'm feeling pretty excited about my Pixel Fold coming in tomorrow (hopefully FedEx is on time). I just got my case today and this is exactly the form factor I wanted. I've owned the Surface Duo 2, which I sold to put towards this phone, and trading in my Note 20 Ultra 5G, so I won't have to finance too much. I've seen some slightly negative reviews on the visibility of the crease, but that's not going to bother me as I got used to having a physical gap in the middle. The battery life, while it would be great if it was better, is also a bit of a non-issue for me as I'm hardly ever away from a charger for more than 4 hours, and if I am, I'm not going to be using it continuously for 4+ hours or I would bring a battery pack. Honestly, any negative reviews and impressions I've seen seem to just be people wanting to nitpick on anything. Saw a comment saying that Google can't justify pricing this phone so highly, but I believe it's going to be a better overall experience for me than the Z Fold series, since I ended up returning the Z Fold 3 in one week. One thing I've seen on multiple reviews is the showing of how IG and Twitter looks in landscape.. but does it still not fill the screen in portrait? It seems like it could, but I won't know until I try it I guess.

It’s appears that apple is so far behind in the folding arena. Google appears to have hit the sweet spot with this device. If I wasn’t so far in the Apple ecosystem this would be my device.
Why though? If you have an iPhone 13 and up, you’re going to probably hate this phone and it’s dismal battery life. I’ve had a few foldables and last year’s Pixel 6 Pro, there’s a reason why I sold them after a few months. You can’t go from all day battery life to charging around 3pm, it gets frustrating after a while.
I pre-ordered mine today , at&t is having a promotion , 25$ for 36 months not bad almost half price. You do have to play out the complete 36 months, lets see if the phone can last that long . I usually keep my phones for a long time, my last phone was my Samsung note 9 loved it lets see if this google phone can hold up for 3 year! Nice video btw
Just watched this on my Pixel fold. Haven't had a chance to test anything yet, but first impressions are good. As a fellow type 1 diabetic go easy on the wine although I've smashed a bottle tonight 😂
At first I was worried about my pre-order after seeing another review mostly being negative towards it. However, after watching your review I've felt more confident about it and though there are things that can be better with it as a first gen foldable for google, you still managed to bring out the positives from it and I am just as much excited as when I first saw the announcement for the phone. Awesome review!
Just some friendly advice if I were you I wouldn't watch any more videos until I made my impressions of the phone congratulations it's an awesome phone You're so darn lucky😊😊😊
@@katinasoutherland7693 I told myself I wasn't going to but I gave in haha. I'm still very excited and luckily paying half the price because of trade in. Thank you!
Google's quality control with their recent devices is like playing Russian roulette if people online are to be believed. Some people get very lucky and enjoy their devices and some people aren't as lucky. I hope you are lucky
I wouldn't pay much attention to reviews from big channels. They're largely dictated by audience capture and the algorithm. As resulted they genuinely dismiss any phone that comes in as competition to Apple or Samsung. It's like clockwork, the Pixel 6A was trashed by MHKBD in favor of the a53, even though the Pixel 6A ended up winning his entire blind camera test. He originally gave a favorable review of the Pixel 6 pro but then backtracked on it after the holidays right before the s22 ultra came out. It makes sense, he has a US-based audience which is 93% market share for Apple and Samsung combined. So they get a lot of positive feedback if they ignore or dismiss competition to Apple or Samsung. If he recommended the Pixel fold over the Samsung he would get a lot of backlash. If he says the fold from Samsung is better, he'll get a ton of positive reinforcement, likes, and algorithmic boost etc.. OnePlus, LG, Motorola , Sony all got the same treatment as well.
Yeah I'm not buying a fold and I can still tell you that the coverage is completely predictably one-sided. Because in the North American market for Android Samsung is like Coke and Pepsi combined and Google, Motorola and Sony all combined for like 5% of the market share. So creators get conditioned to say anything to please Samsung users or Apple users. It's not as bad with channels that are focused more on Europe and Asia whether there's a lot more competition
When open position screen is in lanscape right? But the speakers are on top and bottom side of the screen, so it's not in "stereo" of left & right as should be? 🙄
First video I've caught from you, Josh. Very polished in front of the camera, I dare say. I was getting a little Mr. Mobile vibe, from your presentation here, which is a GOOD thing! 👍 Keep up the good work! I'll be watching. 👀
I ordered mine during the Google I/O show. I bought the 512 GB model because I found out that 128 GB is not enough on my Pixel 7 pro. But fortunately I saved my Google store credits from the pixel 7 pro pre-order. Couple of that with my trade-in and that 512 GB fold is only $ 1,300
I had an a-ha moment too, i didn't realize it was wider, that makes it more usable as a big screen for youtube... maybe full screen if you dont mind the sides being cut off?
While this foldable is pretty solid for a first gen from Google, the LACKLUSTER presence of optimized applications for this device is SORRY. Majority of the applications are just blown up versions instead of aspect ratio optimized variants of those applications. It seriously takes you out of the immersion. This is a main reason why I'm content with sticking to the "candy bar" phones for a little while longer.
Great job as always Josh I just can't justify a foldable for almost 2 grand when I bought the OnePlus 11 and pixel tablet for less than 1300 and both are way more durable imo
I never realized how nice it is to have the tea break in the videos because it does get a little overwhelming even just watching a tech video

Great video, watching on my Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Great video as always 😊
First video I've caught from you, Josh.
Very polished in front of the camera, I dare say. I was getting a little Mr. Mobile vibe, from your presentation here, which is a GOOD thing! 👍
Keep up the good work! I'll be watching. 👀
Great review!
WAIT! Josh plays StarRail!
Who's in your lineup?
The bezel in the Pixel Fold doesn't bother me. I dig it.
This phone reminds me of the blackberry passport that ive always wanted but never was able to get.
I ordered mine during the Google I/O show. I bought the 512 GB model because I found out that 128 GB is not enough on my Pixel 7 pro. But fortunately I saved my Google store credits from the pixel 7 pro pre-order. Couple of that with my trade-in and that 512 GB fold is only $ 1,300
good stuff man great review!
It's need some fine refinement in processor and those thick bezels and camera hump and after that it will be unbeatable.
Can't wait to get mine in a few days. Getting a good deal on my phone.
I had an a-ha moment too, i didn't realize it was wider, that makes it more usable as a big screen for youtube... maybe full screen if you dont mind the sides being cut off?
You are a delight to watch! Just subscribed! Great video, very in depth.
Its about 2.1k with a screen protector and case. Thats why i paid for my fold 4 but its like a mini tablet you can carry anywhere
I need that kettle in my life. Also, great video. Found it very informative.
Good Day Sir JV 💚
